western digital has a special edition 7200 rpm drive up to about 200 gig, with 8 meg cache. Fast!

Monitors are getting cheaper now. Go for at least a good 19" one if you can. This Viewsonic P95f (http://directron.com/p95f.html) is the one I have at work and it has been really good. I am about to get a new monitor and go up in size at home. I have a Dell refurb 19" that has worked great for over 3 years now. I think I paid $160 for it then.

Thanks guys..good info. Gonna check into both

A monitor is not something to skimp on.
A good monitor will last 10 years without a problem.
Really it comes down to which do you need more? If your disk is causing problems(i.e. way too small) then it's probably more important.
But if you have a crappy monitor, like one of those that cant go above 1024x768, I'd reccomend a monitor.
An HDD will be replaced in a year or two, but a good monitor will last far longer.

Dont forget to look at the refresh rates of the monitor you're looking at.
You definitly want one that will do better than 60hz at the resolution you'll be working in. The higher the better, but its also more epensive.

I bought a 21" monitor several years ago, and i still hug it when i get home from office. Best investment i have ever made! Skip the HDD, sell grandma and buy the best 21+ inch you can get! It will outlast several PC's

Recommended Resolution: 1280 x 1024 @ 85 Hz
that'll work :)
NEC makes a great monitor
Mine is a micron 19" flat with a trinitron tube which I run at the above res. my system (XP2000 w ge4 ti4400) keeps the fps at around 85 with vsync on. no complaints

I would recommend something that can do 1600x1200 in at least 85Hz, preferably with a flat screen. A grandma should bring in that kinda cash. I run AH @ 1600x1200. I never thought that would be possible 2 years ago.
