But Beta 2 of the API jhas ust become available, even though the only hardware compatible with DirectX 9 is the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.

Butl even ATI, the only company with a DX 9 part on the market is not allowed to ship DirectX 9 drivers and distribute its cards with DirectX 9. Even hardware reviewers are not able to obtain the fancy DX demos simply because of Microsoft's beta policy

IL-2 has great eyecandy, and if I turn it all off I can get the game to work.  The game is nothing special.

Easy, I have most everything maxed in IL-2 at 1280 resolution on a Athlon 1600 and Geforce 3 TI500 which by today’s standards is going to get a bit dated come the New Year. My 3D scores are still in the 7,000’s, guys are double that now. I’m looking for a upgrade yet Christ, I’m running Aces High at 1600 res getting nearly 75 fps. And what the kicker is my friends GF4 system with 4X  anti-aliased settings ON  actually makes most screens shots for IL-2 look choppy, and not do it justice.

Eye candy aside, to claim arguably the best WWII flightsim ever made that is expanding to what looks to be even better is either just plain absurd, or a frustrated low end system user that hasn’t really played the sim enough to know better.

Granted, IL-2 has some flaws that make me wonder how they could do so much right, and miss a few points, but overall it nearly has killed my AH play.

Before, I used to pity the users in AH that were running low resolutions to get the minimum 20-30 fps, because I was wondering how it was 'too bad' they couldn’t have the same smooth gameplay and visuals I did. But lately as the updates are farther between, and the rest of the simulations are getting to unreal graphical goodness, I’ve lost my patience and pity.

AH should have mirrors, great realistic cockpits, aircraft that look like Supertards new P-51, system modeling, and better terrain to name a few. Tax a middle of the road CPU already.

Business is business, but whoopee, when you can’t run AH at 1024 res at 80+ fps, get a Xbox for $200 and move into your living room. Let the flightsim guys play at a reasonable level. E machines are cool for browsing the internet, but I’m getting pissed they set the level of game cpu usage. Maybe those rebates will come in some day and people will buy a new video card?

Rebates? Those GWB promised you would get?

Well I'm getting about 1800$ back from taxes I paid, dunno if I should drink them or buy a new mobo/cpu :)

WB in 2D was a better game than IL-2.  At least it was befor HT sold it.

Perhaps they think HTC wont like them if they say anything good about IL2.. :D

The patches work. I got mine from 3Dgamers.com and you just DL them and they self install...

It’s a humiliation filter, you can’t post Fighter Ace and flight model in conjunction with a image. Thanks Skuzzy, I would have violated every BBS rule.

Il-2's flaws are absolute game killers for me.

Do you ever fly the 109 creamo.....if so have you ever checked your FPS while firing the cowl 'solar flare' generators?

I get 40-45 FPS normally, but when I fire it becomes a slide-show from the absurd  muzzle blast the guns produce.

If the terrain in use, has a large number of objects in it reasonably fast machines stumble trying to cope with the overhead.

Actually, I'm surprised your AMD 1600 and GF3 has enough balls to handle it, I'll bet you have minimum 512mb, possibly 1GB DDR.....am I correct?

IIRC during the beta Oleg stated that IL-2 code is optimized for Intel processors since 3D-Now instructions were too complex.....anyone with an AMD gets the toejamty end of the stick right out of the box.

Add in the clunky POS view system and it's no wonder the game is relegated to sitting on peoples shelves rather than their hard drive.

AMD TB 1.4GHz@1.53GHz, 768DDR, OC'd GF4Ti4200 and SB Audigy.
Right now I'm using 1280*960 32bit with all details maxed up and tested it at 1600*1200 32bit with same detail-level.

No problems here. Game runs smoothly even when firing those cowl-guns.
Oh using 2x Anti-Aliasing too.

I agree that view-system is aged, they should copy one from AH. I also like how AH uses zoom, one key to switch from normal to zoomed view which also has adjustable level of zoom.
Anyway these are no "show stoppers" for me and I'm eager to see what Forgotten Battles brings to that game.

AMD 1500XP, 512 PC2100DDR, GFTi200. Runs great at 1280x1024. It even ran great with a lowly GF1. I don't know what the deal is for you. Not saying there aren't problems, just saying I don't understand.

Did I upset you by dissing your hoopty game?

Can one of you adults check a file for me, I'm beginning to suspect I might have a bad CD, last time I installed I recieved a CRC error with 3do.sfs.

Mine is 256mb in size.

Il-2 is the next generation. AH shows his age. It was the same with AW it will be the same with AH. Not yet but maybe in the near future. THere is still time to react.

I wouldn't worry too much about AH.
I'm sure there are things in the works (graphically) that will make things ok for the eye-candy pom=pom crew.

Dale and crew have done a fine job and I have no reason to believe otherwise for the future.

(where's my free month!?!? )  lol

Duron 800, GF2 MX 400, 640 MB RAM.

No stutter while firing, no stutter offline.

Online is another thing, I must admit.

S!

I am happy that IL-2 does NOT have these lizardneck views like in AH. What I would like to see from AH in IL-2 are the FAST snapviews and movable pilot head to some extent.

IMO AH could use a MLU(midlife update) in graphics and such, even at cost of low end users dropping out. Upgrading ain't too expensive nowadays.

AH still has one of the best MMPOG formats that I enjoy a lot. That's why I keep my account alive:D

I think AH has the best View system in the market.

In real life if you thought someone was behind you shooting at you, You would snap your head back like an owl to see what it was.

IL2's view system seems slower to me, and less agressive.

The option to save your view/head settings is priceless. Something that is impossible in IL2. In IL2, every pilot is the same size. In Aces High you can adjust your height with the arrow keys.
