Has anybody downloaded the leaked demo(362mb)(doom_iii.rar)  yet, and if so is it toejam hot to play .

I played them for a little while, some effects dropped my FPS 30 points. In a firefight it brought my rig to its knees. It is nowhere near optimized.

xp2100
1 gig pc2700 mem
geforce 4 4600 Vanilla settings

it would run like toejam on my duron 800 , geforce4 ti4400 and 256 ram.

40 don't go by HC rig it's customized for another game(for a lack of a better word) and it's not likley to be right for a "normal" game.:D

Well the original "DooM" had a lot of VERY dark rooms and hallways too (some pitch black), although unlike the later "Quake" series "DooM" also had plenty of very light areas as well.

For me, "DooM" is still the best FPS game ever.  Some of the sounds from the creatures still give me the creeps.

In terms of atmosphere in a FPS - I dont think you can best Half-Life.  

Doom was good - the first of its kind (Unless you count Wolf 3d) - and of course Quake was the first FPS that utilized 3d acceleration.  I went out and bought a VooDoo card just so I could play it.  :D

Yessir ID Software puts out some good stuff.

Do me a favor and download demo/alpha/leak/e3show file.  When I was playing level3 I had to stop, my neighbors don’t appreciate me yelling at the top of my longs at 22:00

I have no idea how to get to the leaked alpha - although Id love to.  :(
