"no news is good news"

That means HT are working so hard on the Mission Arena that they have no time left to post about it... (I hope)

The way you guys squeak about everything they announce, I dont blame them for not sharing much.

Besides, the less they share the less you can squeak about if it doesnt happen to make it into the next release.

Heh...look at it from their point of view for a second Oed.

Lets say they announce the Stuka for the next version.  The first questions would be "which model?"  As soon as they say which model then the whines start about why this other one would be a much better fit and why the one that was chosen sucks.  How would you feel if it was something you worked on day in and day out...just to have it bashed on by a bunch of idiots on a message board.

Then lets say that the same Stuka, for some reason or another, has a problem and they dont include it in the next version.  The whine volume would be so high that it would drown out any whines that have ever been recorded here before.  Besides, doing it their way also keeps the focus on "what is coming" rather than "what was promised and we didnt get."

Now, I am not saying that I dont like news and updates on development.  I am not even saying that I agree with how they are doing it, but I do have to say that I see why they might possibly be doing it that way.

Besides, if you really want news, just buy Hitech a drink or 2 from time to time.  I believe its Cragganmore that he enjoys.  :)

News gets a full bashing of whines because that's the way HTC wants to run his business. Rather than focus on one group, A) Simmers, or B) gamers, HTC chooses to try and cater to C) both groups.

Becuase of that, A will whine that the news sucks because there are no new strategy elements or realism additions. B will whine that the new plane added isn't the one with the 40mm cannons and it will suck diving headlong into the ground as they fire off all their ords in a suicide JaBo attack.

Eventually, HTC will realize that another flight sim will come out. If it has better realism and strat settings, the A group will go. If it has 10K air starts, full featured anti-stall controls and a flight model like WingCommander, the B group will go.

IMO, you can only keep two groups 'at peace' for so long. Eventually, one or the other will get fed up and leave.

The new P-51 model and muzzle flashes are nice additions, but I would much rather see a strat model that means something and has a lasting effect. Playing Pig-pile base capture is getting a little long in the tooth.

Skuzzy just came into the MA and said he had some news, he said HT thinks he finally found the CTD bug and is working on squashing it (HT was apparently playing today, CTD'd and caught it on film).

Skuzzy also mentioned that the CTD thing had been taking up a lot of their resources, and that in spite of that 1.11 was coming along nicely.

Not exactly "news" news, but something nonetheless.

LIBERATOR BOMBER PILOT AND HIS CREW BOMB AND STRAFE CARGO VESSELS

At an advanced base somewhere in New Guinea, Feb. 21 (Delayed) -- For the purpose of mapping strategic islands in the Southwest Pacific, the crew of a B-24 Liberator, took off with the dawn patrol on a routing reconnaissance mission deep in the heart of enemy territory. The ship, piloted by First Lieut. Harold G. Cowan of Lowell, proceeded to the assigned area and the crew commenced to take pictures which would provide valuable information for future offensive operations.

Suddenly, Lt. Cowan noticed a cloud of smoke in the distance. Upon closer investigation, this was discovered to be a screen used to conceal a rapidly moving convoy of three cargo vessels escorted by two enemy gunboats. Fully realizing the dangers to be encountered in an attack on a thoroughly alert foe whose intensely destructive anti-aircraft fire would be directed at a single target, the pilot nevertheless, decreased altitude and sped towards the convoy.

Through a heavy barrage of hazardous ack-ack, the B-24 made five low level bombing runs over the enemy ships. It was on the fourth run that the bombs dropped by First Lt. Paul R. Kilmain, Auburndale, Mass., began to pay dividends; a direct hit on the stern deck of a 4500 ton cargo vessel. Another run provided the "bull's eye" when the bombardier neatly laid two one hundred pounders directly amidships. The vessel, with three direct hits in its hull began to list to the port side and the crew immediately abandoned the sinking ship.

Triumphantly, Lt. Cowan nosed the ship and turned to the happy faces of his crew.

"Shall we strafe them boys?" he inquired.

The answer was a direct one.

"Let's go. What are we waiting for?"

With Staff Sergt. Herman K. Harrison, Jr., Bronxville, N.Y., Staff Sgt. Joseph Babyack, Garfield, N.J., and Staff Sgt. James L. Ervin of Ft. Smith, Ark., spouting lead from their guns, the Liberator dived to within few feet of the water and repeatedly strafed the convoy until all but one vessel was enveloped in flames.

With no bombs remaining and over 2,500 rounds of ammunition spent in the battle, the bomber withdrew from its now helpless victims and completed the original mission of reconnaissance. Having hit the Japenese a damaging blow, the glad tidings were radioed to other squadrons by Staff Sgt. Hugh W. Glover of Alto, Ga.

Later in the day, a flight of B-25s arrived at the scene of battle to finish off the one remaining cargo vessel.

Near as I can tell this board hardly represents "the masses". There are 3000 or so AH subscribers and I figure about 100-200 consistent (very vocal and opinionated) contributers to the various forums. Most of the posts are discussions among the same 50 or so guys.

Catering to this high-maintenance bunch of trolling whiners and meta-whiners (whiners about whiners) would make anybody want to crawl into a hole ;)

(Not casting stones here, I include myself in the fray).

Well, I agree that too many people whine, but after 4 months, it is a little disheartening when I open up the message board and I hardly ever see a new update in the "News and Announcements" section. I would like to see some more info from time to time. Just a hope...

I think another "1.10 is out tomorrow" type fiasco's will likely generate some news from HTC, just like it did last time, a la 200 crazy threads.

I wish they were as frequent as Lo-Mac or IL2 with screenshots. but then again, I'd prefer that they focused on getting the new version out as soon as possible than getting new screenshots out... ;)

Hi Oed,

Your quotes from the interview you cited and your comments on them don't seem consistent to me.  I didn't state that there wouldn't be holes to fill, exactly the opposite.  What I did state is that we would have coverage over the entire war period.  At that time we didn't have all the early and mid war planes that we do now.

I also did not say that AH would be a juggernaut in a year.  It is the most populous online flight sim, but even so, that's not what I stated.  I stated that that was our ultimate goal, not our goal in a year and I basically outlined our means to achieving that.  That is what we are currently in the process of doing.

I ask you to reread what I stated.  I find your quotes of me from back then to still be on the mark.  I don't understand how you see it differently.

Please.

Can't get enough of game developers actually caring about their customers? (http://www.cfspilots.50megs.com/adorante/il2_oleg_index.htm)

And this has nothing to do with comparing games to me. Just a wealth of info that answers the whines or simple questions with answers from the developer. Maybe HTC has less time with 100 less people working on the game but still.

Your welcome. It was a revelation to me this morning for sure.

I came out of it with understanding on the sim, and not as miffed about my concerns at least.

I wonder how Wlfgng and the rest feel about this, which amounts to about a serious1 hour read link? I could read HTC's game responces in the same format in 2 minutes.

Did Oleg compromise development or something being candid about his product? I think not.
