Didn't realize I was oficially a vet til a few years ago...apparently because my unit was activiated/mobilized for 4 months for the Gulf War, on paper, Im a vet. Was supposed to go to Saudi in support of our KC-135s, wound up full time active duty on base as an alternate instead. Was a very busy time for us refueling everything heading over the Atlantic.

missed it by >< that much when I was 17. I signed on the dotted line, both mom and dad signed me in. Then 2 months later, on the morning I was supposed to go in, my recruiter called and said "no more non-grads" this month. I say "is it too late for me to change my mind?" he say "no" I said "GREAT" " I don't want to go into the army now!!!!"
Wish I had served though....
and Thanks to those that did in my place....

Saw an array like that in Okinawa, was called Giant Voice I think. Been a while, memory may be serving poorly.
Actually, couldn't judge the scale properly but the pic you posted looks much smaller than the acres sized antenna I was referring to.

The AN-FLR9 is pretty large. According to FAS.ORG (http://www.fas.org/irp/program/collect/an-flr-9.htm)
It's about 260 meters in diameter. These things are usually refered to as "Elephant Cages"
[edit] Looks like this (http://www.fas.org/irp/program/collect/classic_bullseye.htm) might be what you saw in Okinawa?
