Title: HEAD-2-HEAD Ladder - beta test
Post by: Exile on November 12, 2002, 06:57:38 AM: We'll be running a beta test from now until November 29th. Please stop by, signup and help us test things out.

At the end of the test, we'll clear out all duels and reshuffle ladder placement to start things off fresh.

you should see a section titled "CHALLENGE CONFIRMATION" with the sentence "Please confirm that you wish to challenge xxxxx" and then a form button below that.

Click the form button or the "cancel" link directly below it.

hmmm

so you're able to see the "challenge this pilot" link. You click the link and the page refreshes ... good so far ... but you don't see a block with heading of "CHALLENGE CONFIRMATION" just below the date and time?

But how about a hard set distance where it changes from extending to running?

2-3k is about right. I'd hate to have a slight energy advantage on someone and have em call 'runner' when I was just waiting to extend enough to turn around.

Once the challenge is accepted, the email you receive should be shown as coming from your opponent. I also made it a little clearer that this is the case. The email is also included in the body of the email now.

I can't challenge anyone now, apparently I've been challenged. I have an accept/decline link I can click on, but that only refreshes the page too. :confused:

found the problem

IE 5.0 doesn't support the onclick event, which is what I was using to submit the form.

I moved back to using javascript:document.xxxxxx.

It works on our version of IE 5 here at the office (5.00.3314.2101). You should be good to go now. :p *mumbles to himself about people still using outdated browsers*

Looky here you city slicker, it takes time for new browsers to get to our next uh the woods. and for that last komment, ewe have been challenged! (works successfully, good job)

Post by: Exile on November 14, 2002, 08:22:05 AM: As it is now, you can't challenge someone if they are already involved in another challenge. You can only challenge up, so if everyone above you who is within challenge range is in a challenge, you have to wait. No way around that.

Your position on the ladder is not based on Kills, Deaths or K/d. It's based on you beating someone above you. If you win you move up. That is the only way to move up the ladder. That's the main reason there are penalties for non-Active players and players that repeatedly decline challenges.

New pilots had a 0/0 win/loss so they were in the middle, pilots with a negative win/loss fell down. Pilots with the better win/loss were at the top ( I think he had it where if pilot A had won 8 duels and lost 2 and pilot B had won 4 and lost 1, then pilot A was ranked higher simply because of the nuber of duels he had won).

I liked the placement in the ladder being dependant on one's win/loss ratio.

New players start at the bottom and have to work their way up. You duel for the position, not a better rating. My last ladder was like that and we ran into situations where some people got so far ahead of others that there was no way to "de-throne" them so to speak.

Dueling for position prevents that from happening. No matter how good a record you have, if you lost a duel, you lost your position. Very simple approach, but I think it works nicely.

I don't want to have to be the arbitrator of that kind of dispute. Basically if it can be done in the game, it's considered valid until HTC changes it. Otherwise, I'd be reviewing film all day ... ain't gonna happen. ;)
