Title: I feel bad for New Yorkers...

They must be beginning to feel that airplanes are raining from the sky... sheesh!

Man I sure hope they find out that it was a malfunction and not terrorism or our economy will really be taking a dive.

Not sure if this is the right forum for it, but heres my 2 cents. A lot of talk about an engine falling off is being thought as the cause of the crash.  I think it was terrorist. I can think of 2 cases where commerical or large military aircraft have lost engines and remained airworthy.  One happened in the gulf war.  I think a KC135 was landing behind a 747 and the turbulence tore one of the engines off the KC135.  It landed safely.  Another case happened just a few years ago.  A b52 lost an engine 'pod' and it landed safely.  Of course there have also been incidents where they didnt land so safely.  A large commercial jet had an engine actually fall off while it was still over the runway and it subsequently stalled and crashed.  And I assume your familiar with the Souix City crash.  It was a remarkable feat of flying.

FDIron... ask the question in the O'Club and I'll tell you how much different the scenarios you describe are from what happened over Queens.
