Title: New video card
Post by: Modas on November 13, 2002, 09:58:52 AM

I'm thinking about upgrading my video card.  Currently running a Creative Labs annhilator pro 32 mB card (geForce 1) on a P3 700.  Was thinking about upgrading to a GF3.

Is this going to be to much card for my system?  I.E. bottle neck is now in the processor/motherboard where I won't be able to take advantge of the new card?

Hiya,
Yep on that p3 700 you won't really see a massive gain with a new GF4 etc

Still if you can get a gf#200/or larger series (none MX) ;) approx £110 here and upgrade cpu if poss you would see a benefit

I guess if i were in same shoes as you having a p3 mobo and wanting a later vid i would forego the vid and upgrade mobo/cpu/ram then at a later date (few mths sees gf4's prices dropping nice :) )when possible (thinking is you maybe limited to upgradable cpu on present mobo)
with a faster mobo/cpu (ram if required) you will have a darn nice pc setup for a more modern vid

Hope this makes sense  lol

Basicly you would gain some with a new vid at present but a p3/700 just wouldn't really do justice to a say gf4 card

Say NO to gf-MX's ;) lol

Have Fun

Hi ya modas
Just like defiance said , do a system upgraqde then buy once Nvidia releses there Newest GF5 NV30 chips later this month. I'm thinking there will be a Big price drop and theere GF3' and GF4's.

Im kinda in the boat your in but i just did the system upgrade part now im waiting for the Vcards to drop a bit after this relese.

If you want buy on of the New MOBO's with the Nforce 2 chipsets
cause it has a GF4 mx built right on board! like the:

 ASUS A7N8X

My beautiful new system.
Asus A7V8X
AMD 2200xp
512 mg corsir ram
Prophet GF2 gts 32mg   <---weaklink will be replaced

But i average 74-75 FPS   on the low side in a big fight maybe 20's

Box, the new geforces will not be out until next year, I would guesstimate between february and march.
