Title: Enhancement: Incentives for ditching vs. bailing
Post by: Chairboy on November 13, 2002, 02:33:40 PM
Howdy,

The current game model doesn't give any good incentive to ditching versus bailing.  In RL, a ditched aircraft could become a source for spare parts or, if luck was with the military, a repaired airplane.

In AH, you are treated the same whether you ditch or bail.  If you have a perk plane, for instance, there's no incentive to risk a ditching versus a safe bail because if you die during ditch, you'll lose all perks and you don't get anything for ditching succesfully.

For a change, I'd enjoy it if ditches were treated better then bailing.  If you have a perk plane, maybe a ditch would mean you would only lose 1/4 the perks instead of the 1/2 you lose for succesfully bailing now.  For an Me-262, it could be a real gamble over whether the risk of ditching would be worth the 50 perk advantage to ditching.  It would really become a test of ones mettle.

For your consideration.

Regards,

Chairboy

I agree with you!

also I think that you have to see your plane crashing when you've bailed out.
It's a shame that if I bail I cant see a proper crash :D

when you ditch your enemy gets no kill , when you bail he gets a kill.

Ditching doesn't count as a death in the stats!  Thats some incentive.

yes it does...

try ditching near a con.. you'll get a "you have ditched" message followed by a "you have been killed by... " message.
+ when they land it counts in their kill # for the sortie.

i know this cause a osty ditched near me w/never having hit it and i got kill message + it allowed me to land 4 kills instead of the 3 i really did.

i have also spawned to the wrong direction and immedately "ditched" and somone got the kill on me

oh well my 2¢

I agree, there isn't enough of a real difference between ditching, bailing successfully, bailing and being captured, and just plain getting killed.  Ditching in enemy territory should probably also result in capture.

I have to agree with JB73.. Last night I ditched a shot up FM-2 and was very happy with my self until...."you have ditched" XXX shot you down.

you know what makes this worse....

tonight i was killing panzers at A1..

one of them was fester.

well every time i hit his turret he'd ditch (and i wouldn;t get a kill  WTF) but the few times i got hit and "ditched" there would be a kill message......

I call BS!!! the system either isn't working right or something.

I think it's time we moved on from the "easy mode".

When you play IL-2, you're really careful with take-offs and landings. First time I upped a Bf109 in IL-2, I ground looped it, wrecked it into a tower nearby and watched it catch flames upside down and blow up. Likewise, first time I landed a Bf109, I wrecked the landing gears and tumbled into a ditch. First time I tried to DITCH a Bf109, it failed and my plane blew up!

"Ditch" is a last resort move. AH pilots can pull it off in their sleep, but try ditching in IL-2 and you'd have sweat running along your forehead.

I always thought take-offs and landings were too simple in AH. If the potential dangers of ditching or landing in places that is not a runway are accurately depicted, people will start respecting the runways.
