While I did not make this picture, this is the sort of thought that runs through my brain every time a "kewl" little ricer go-kart pulls up next to my Caddy :D

Some of those little go-carts could blow the doors off your caddy up to about 90mph, and then cruise at that speed at 30mpg. :)

I'd like to see that race, say, around Sebring's Grand Prix track.

Bic lighters have a longer flame than a Zippo, but they're disposable.

Japanese automotive quality is arguably the best in the world, on a par with German engineering. I'd buy Mitsubishi, Subaru or Nissan over a Ford or Vauxhall (GM owned) any day of the week.
-
Hell.. my car barely has 2 litres of storage capacity... but I'd take in on the track at Sebring... or how about Sears Point?
Its not lightning fast... but if the track has curves... watch out:

I love that ad!

gimme a muscle car any day over a rice-burner.

To be honest, I would say that they've surpassed German engineering. Yet, you still don't see as many 1980 honda's on the road like you do 190-70'ish-80'ish VW's or BMW's. Yet they're out-manufactured 4 to 1.

German cars have more of a loyal fan base, Japanese cars are just practical, there's no fanaticism. Plus, anyone who's sunk so much money to keep a BMW on the road isn't going to part with it so easily. :)

If you ever compare Dealer service hourly rate, and parts, honda's and BMW's are pennies apart. ;)
Edit,Above^-- that is at the Toyota, Lexus level, which is on par or exceeds BMW quality.

That's because Hondas have no soul, no character. They're the sensible cars that people buy to get around town. The only people with long-term plans for their Hondas are (a) retirees and (b) people that plan on customzing the crap out of them anyway. I had a '93 Honda that I was going to hop up, but the electricals were going out - it went brain-dead one time too many.
-
I like Honda's, test drove them and Acura's. Very nice. Didn't fit my required niche of "Mid-life crisis, fun just driving to the store on the curvy roads near my house, yet able to commute with decent gas milege". I get 30 mpg with 225 HP...works for me :)

You're right - the current base Mini has a ton of character but is a bit mild-mannered. When the supercharged model comes out, those things are going to rule the SCCA meets at Sebring in September. Once BMW can engineer a Mini motor with more pull, those things are going to be real screamers.
If it wasn't for the fact that right now they're high-demand/low-supply vehicles, I might actually look into getting one for sport.
-
The supercharged models are out already. In the U.S. they are either even or outselling the standards. I got a standard because it is better for in-town driving and has an 11:1 compression ratio wheras the S is somewhere around 9:1. The standards have more room to grow as far as HP goes... and should have a better torque curve when doing it.

I actually like the way a standard looks better than the S model anyhow. Trying to "get the wife to know how good she would look in one"...

With all due respect, anyone who thinks Hondas have no soul has never driven an S2000. Perfect 50-50 weight distribution, 240 horsepower out of 2 liters, and 9000 r.p.m. redline.
It's noisy as hell, but I love my Stook!
-
The S2000 should've been an Acura. And the uniforms the techs wear at F1 races should say "Acura", too. But hey, they're all Honda guys. With the death of the Prelude, Honda really only sells the Civic, Accord, a minivan, and 2 SUVs. The S2000 is horribly misplaced in the Honda selling line-up.
I like the design and engineering of the S2000 (too bad it looks like the BMW at first glance). I'm not too keen on the black and red leather interiors, either. Nice ride, though.

I'll trade ya wheels for the Auto-X course :D

I'd say that all modern automobiles are over-engineered. They're almost impossible to work on. Do you remember the days when you could adjust your own carburetor, change the spark plugs and the oil filter and the gas filter and the belts and time everything without out having to take it back to the dealer and pay some "automotive engineer" $50 an hour to take it apart just to change the plugs? Remember straight six and slant-six and v-8 engines that were anvil tough and user-friendly?
You can have all this modern crap.

Then he wasnt trying.
Nah seriously - I dunno what Subaru you drive - I assume a WRX? If so - I think you could probably dust any N/A 911 built prior to 1984 in a "stop light" race stock for stock - but engage at your own peril any product of Stuttgart that says "Turbo" on the back. We elitest P-car nuts dont participate in such low class demonstrations of testosterone, however... honest. :D
Come to the track and well show you what "fast" really means.
