I took this screen shot early this
morning. Seems one of my "countryman"
wished to keep this TG "safe" should
the Port change hands again...
Personally I detest this sort of "game play"!

Let's have some comment on the issue of
what to me is cheating...
-
Unfortunately some people also consider it "cheating" to tell the enemy countries of this pathetic behavior.
Ringing the maps with land, rather than water, would quickly end this problem.

It is sad.

It has been flamed over many times before, Gypsy Baron.
-
In my opinion it's real simple.
First rule, don't hide it off map.
2nd rule, if they do hide it offmap, IMO all restrictions are off. Your free to do whatever it takes to get it back on map or found.
-
Yup, that sucks. Basically all you can do is take control of the task group yourself (if your rank is high enough), wait for someone else with a high enough rank to do the same, or get on open channel and announce to the rest of the arena where the CV group is headed.
If HT is reading - Is it possible to code the CV waypoint system differently so that it is impossible to set waypoints that are off of the visible map? Kind of like the buffer zone that the CV has around land? I guess I can't argue that pulling the CV behind friendly lines to keep it from the NME isn't a sound tactic, but floating it way off-map like that is kinda retarded.

It comes up every so often; check these links over in the Gameplay Forum.

IMO this is cheating. I know some people will consider it fair because it can be done. we are given an arena to fightin so why not just make going off map impossible

Gotta agree here. I think if players aren't willing to use the cv offensively, even when the port has been captured, then they are just being childish. Hiding the toys from the other kids because they don't want them to have a turn playing with them... No excuses, off mapping a cv is just plain stupid. I'm all for outing it on channel 1.
-
I don't call it "cheating" as the game is engineered to alow it. That said, it's a pathetic tactic that is detrimental to gameplay.
Again, simply ringing all the maps with a thin strip of LAND would cure this immediately with no programming modifications required.

I consider that cheating - albeit absent a "rule". Also absent is a rule about outing it on channel 1, which I would do if I saw that kind of crap.

I would always give the postion of my countries CV if I see them in such a pathetic state of cheatdome

Old news Mr. Airing the Orchid.
Just model an edge to the flat world, and have the cVs fall off and tumble to their death.

I have suggested before, that a Port that is captured, the CV reverts to it in some specified time. I suggest 10 minutes
ATC
-
How about when you capture a port, the location of the carrier (still enemy) becomes visable on the map?
-
This is not good and the other problem that raises its ugly head is guys coming over taking control of the CV and vectoring squadmates to it. I have witnesses this twice in the last three days.
Suggestion:
- When a player changes countries make it 48Hrs before they can control a CV.
- Make Chanel 4 (Squad Channel)only heard on the country the the squad Commanding Officer is on. This would help make it harder for squad spys to communicate to another country.
Something needs to be done.. the problem really takes a lot of enjoyment out the game.

so thats where it went and thats what the red bar was...... me and a few others were out down south looking for it... but what we did find was a volcano

If you can do it, I guess it isn't cheating. I don't think it adds anything to game play. People respond by defecting to find the hidden carrier group. Then pass heated words in here about cheating. If hiding TGs, defection and spying are part of the game, it should be modeled better.
Here are a few ideas if it is ment to be part of the game:
Extend the limits of the map
Add search drones to patrol the empty spaces to spot and report TGs.
TGs can put out a patrol to shoot down drones before they spot the TG
If it isn't part of the game:
Limit the TGs to the map
Or, put an off map arrow pointing to the TG

DmdATC change that 10 min to 12 hours & you may have something.
Oosik, love your idea, its a winner IMO.
Thunder as for channel 4 not working, they'd just tune private & still do it. I see no real benefit from that idea.
Simplest solution, surround the terrain with a strip of land. No more off map CV's. Put it just out of sight under the border.

Make taking command of a CV cost perks.Perks or "rank"; what's the difference?
It soon be back in play then..

Don't care about #1 myself, but #2 would definitely suck. Some of us have squad members who fly periodically (or in the case of mr fishy, mostly) for other countries. Not allowing them to see our squad channel would be detrimental to our squad as a whole.
SOB

Yep, sad.
Just make everything hiding outside map visible to all countries. That way it would be 'hiding' anymore.
-
Cheater - def. One who acts in a dishonest (unable to be trusted) manner in order to get what they want.
Seems appropriate in the case of defectors/spys, and therefore anyone acting upon information obtained from same.
Just give us a firing squad so we can eliminate those found engaging in such practices. Hell, we'll even execute the ones taking the CV's off map. Why not? I'm sure more than one fellow has met his end for 'cowardly action in time of war.' Give them a few minutes leeway, so they can correct waypoints mistakenly laid.
Uh, along the same lines; it sure would be nice to get napalm, so we could flame (heh) the bastages transmitting information from their parachutes on the ground. <G>
-
Anybody who does something like that with the CV's should be forced to fly the 202 for all eternity.
-
Nah, Cit'd still get kills.

Car bombing has eventually been fixed after tons of good posts, whining and cheerleading. I dont think that HTC would have problems to fix offmappers. They just have to find time and obvioulsy they should want to do it. I dont like those offmappers at all. However, till then (IMHO) it is not cheating, only gaming the game ... like those scissoring with Lancasters at 28K, or dropping from 30K in a barrel, or (prior to 1.08) respawning 100 times with an IL-2 as a tank to kill paras, or ... well you understand ;)
-
all very nice Gypsy Baron. but why dont you post WHO was the one who set those waypoints?.
Did someone say..."dweebhunt"? :)

Let's have some comment on the issue of
what to me is cheating...
This one's easy. I detest "gameing" the game and will broadcast the location of the carrier on Channel 1 each and every time I see this circumstance.
If the CV can't be hidden within the confines of the map, so be it. Defending the CV is not that hard with the exception of the suicide gomer's, which is why I am all for bringing CV ack back up to a decent level.

if it cost perks, why not allow a squad or individual to "buy" their own CV and run it in the manner they see fit. A squadron that purchased a CV would have a major incentive to use it properly and defend it properly.
I would think that a port once captured should be able to build a new CV regardless of the status of the old CV. If a country has captured the carrier they own it until it dies. Just allow the country that takes the port to build a new one. I dont think we could have too many carriers could we :)

Oh, I considered that but decided against it
here in the forums.
I DID, however, announce the perps ID on Channel 1
and broadcast to the Rooks ( former port owners )
the current location of the TG and indicated
to them that I would supply new location info
when they regained ownership of the port.
At the time, the person who had apparently taken command of TG 20
was not answering any private radio comms
nor did he appear to be at the keyboard.
He was the highest ranking Knight online,
such as it was, thus there was nothing
any Knight could do to take command.
At some point he either logged or got dumped
and I took command and set a course to bring
the TG back on the map.
When I finally logged it was steaming in harms way,
as all good TG's should :)
-
Wow Krusher! I like that idea! Squad perk points to buy your own carrier.Of course, it would probably cost 2500 to 5000 perk points, but it would be a nice feature to have for those who want to use the carrier to launch attacks from, not as a beachhead landing craft.

The semantics of whether it's cheating or gaming the game don't change the fact that it's a wussy thing to do in this game. To quote Gomez Addams... "Dirty pool, old man."
Burn the dweebs!!!

...and to finish that quote "I like it!". Sounds like Gomez is Pro- CV hiding! :D

Be assured, if the Knights ever do this and I'm online it will be broadcast on Ch1.
-
Can't it be made that the CV cannot leave the map? Guess that's the easiest solution? Or disable rank authority of the CV as soon as it leaves the map....

Take the cv off map and it EXPLODES!!!!
Problem solved. Of course it would mean that HTC would have to make a change in game play.

I like that! Perhaps they could just make it so that anything that is taken off map, be it a CV or plane, etc... will show up as a dot on radar.

Obviously, you haven't seen the current state of his pinball machine. Too bad he's an FDB... or he'd have it fixed by now.

Personally speaking,I dont think anyone should be able to change countries whenever they want,in other words, pick yer country and stick with it,andone wanting to change countries should mail support or something and put the request in that way.I think this would solve all this stuff.
-
Gyp, theres a network of veteran players that inform each other of the location of said CV's so that it will help curb this sort of gameplay. Join the club. If I had been online during this time, I would have immediateley reported the position of the CV to the enemy, or taken control back into the map...this is what I logged on to see last week:
Next time, either re-direct the CV back onto the map, or give the enemy its coordinates, since HTC hasn't coded anything yet to prevent this, we have to take the matter into our own hands.
<S>

That's interesting Rip. I notice the rooks are in control of the northern region, which is where Bishops were last week. Must be an old screenshot. ;)
Broadcasting the location on open channel, or in private, should carry the penalty of death (for the crime of espionage). So, you network of 'veterans' should all be put to death. :p

I call it lack of skill ;-)
