Life in Black and White - For older folks only - (Under 40? You won't understand.)
You could hardly see for all the snow,
Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.
Pull a chair up to the TV set,
"Good night, David; Good night, Chet."
Dependin' on the channel you tuned
You got Rob and Laura - or Ward and June.
It felt so good, felt so right.
Life looked better in black and white.
I Love Lucy, The Real McCoys
Dennis the Menace, the Cleaver boys
Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train
Superman, Jimmy & Lois Lane.
Father Knows Best, Patty Duke
Rin Tin Tin and Lassie too,
Donna Reed on Thursday night--
Life looked better in black and white.
I wanna go back to black and white.
Everything always turned out right.
Simple people, simple lives
Good guys always won the fights.
Now nothing is the way it seems
In living color on the TV screen.
Too many murders, too much fight,
I wanna go back to black and white
In God they trusted, in bed they slept.
A promise made was a promise kept.
They never cussed or broke their vows.
They'd never make the network now.
But if I could, I'd rather be
In a TV town in '53.
It felt so good, felt so right
Life looked better in black and white.
I'd trade all the channels on the satellite
If I could just turn back the clock tonight
To when everybody knew wrong from right
Life was better in black and white!

was it B&W or just white?
sorry - had to beat some lib to the punch :)
we don't need to go back to B&W, just take out the garbage in today's programs - would put us at about 6 hours of tv a day - all 200 channels combined :)

*Sigh* Those were the days! *Sigh*
Don't forget "Sky King!"

Stick your head back in the sand and the world still looks black and white.

Yep! It dawned on me the other night watching the Red Skelton show...comics today have to use 4-letter words to be funny. They didn't have to in Red's day. :)

Once again you are showing your completely rose colored memory of the past.
Lenny Bruce ring a bell?
Buddy Hackett?
Comedians have been working dirty since the late 50's, and some still do. Not all. Working clean still works too. Seinfeld is a prime example, and so is Newhart.

yeah, they were the Richard Pryor/Eddie Murphy of their day
seen numerous vid recordings of them grabbing their crotch and repeatedly saying the F & N - word

Modern comics would starve if they couldn't use junior-high locker room language in their acts.

BEFORE I TRIED IT
THE KISSES
I MISSED
BUT AFTERWARD-BOY!
THE MISSES I KISSED
Burma-Shave
I miss cruising Rt.66 and seeing all the old Burma-Shave signs...
...and Dick Lane yelling out 'kaaaarataaeeee' when pro wrestling was 'clean' entertainment.
My Friend Flika, Furry and Sheriff John's Lunch Brigade....
...but my favorite were the old serials, the ones that used to play in the theaters every Saturday...whether thay were Westerns or Sci-Fi, The Cliffhangers were what kept me glued to the tube in the 50's.
'The Adventures of Rex Ryder' and 'The Phantom Empire' were my favorites.....Untill Sky King came along.

I am about to make a fool of myself, but I have a confession. I learned my morality, not from the bible, but from Roy, and Hoppie, and Gene. To this day, my gut beliefs are based on these old cowboys.

Hey Rip, I'm under 40 and I understand. Do I win a cookie?
BTW, buy a cheap TV and everything still IS B&W :)
"Seinfeld is a prime example"
He might not cuss, but he's not funny either so he still loses. Plus he lacks tact.

"My wife... I think I'll keep her."

Bah, if you live beyond 40, you haven't really lived, because then you haven't taken the risk one must face in order to enjoy that which makes life worth living.
Either that or you survived getting married. That's not a risk; it's suicide.
