you'll know it's me trying to get used to my pedals. :)
I've had these hofmann simpeds for a couple of years now but just now got the USB adapter yesterday. I've gotten so used to my MS twisty stick that the pedals are going to be really tough to get used to.
Many pilots with L33T 5k1LLZ whom I respect get by with just a hand-operated rudder, be it MS twisty rudder or the saitek thingy, but I think the pedals are going to be better when I get used to them, feels like I have more independant and precise control of yaw motion with them. (theoretically;))
But it seems less people are using foot pedals these days.
What do you use? and are you happy with it?

can't stand pedals with PC games... use 'em in RL all the time but there i get the feedback thru my butt and not thru my eyes if i fly coordinated or not :)
cheers

hblair, I dont have pedals, and I dont have jostick rudder control either . So I never use rudder in AH :( . Just to land doras with broken wings. Using keyboard in the middle of a fite is worse than use rudders for me.
Good luck with your new adquisition :)

No wonder Urchin shot you down. I was wondering how you could blow so bad on 5 V1.
Buy some rudders already.
-
TM RCS rudders with my Cougar setup. I have been using rudders for years and don't know how I would do without them.
-
Hblair if you think it is hard to get used to rudder pedals, trying going back.
My CH USB pedals finally died. First they would lose calibration between sessions of AH, then while playing the game between flights, then during flight. Finally they just wouldnt calibrate anymore at all.
Now im using the throttle rudder control on my X-45. I'm having all sorts of trouble keeping a line on a enemy plane and im even having troubles on steep jabo runs. (This and my feet are still wiggling around under the desk during fights.) :)
Once you get used to the precise control and feel of rudder pedals you will never go back.

Still usin the same set of TM "Elite" pedals I've had for years. Been thru a couple of rebuilds. Couldn't do without em.

I don't know how to fly without pedals..
twisty stick sends me all over the sky and the keyboard.. well...

It might well be me....it's just that, in my particular case, the tail is usually some hundreths feet away from the rest of the 109 :D
I've been using the Saitek thinghy for approximately one year, until the Joystick gave up. Can't connect the throttle alone, so I'm stuck with a Logitec dunnowhat twisty "rudder" that barely let me try the "shaky fish" (Luftwobble Tm) manouver....Yes, I know, I know, only useful to shake bogies outta my 6...
Cheers,

double post...

I use CH Pro pedals, and they work fine. I especially like the toe brakes.
OTOH, I used a cheap 2-axis joystick for throttle/rudder for years in AWDOS. Worked great. In fact, it was more precise than pedals.

I've (we've now that the missus is flying too) got the Cougar HOTAS and SIMPED rudder pedals, tried for a bit with only a CH Fighter stick, drove me nuts. I also fly X-Plane so the pedals are necessary and second nature. Kind of hard snap rolling etcetera without pedals for me (just try doing a point-roll without rudders!). I've gone through everything since starting years and years ago, and my current set-up is by far my favorite. My flight chair is now equiped with the Cougar HOTAS as well as 5 speakers and powered sub-woofer all running on Dolby 5.1 at 750 watts total, I'd hate to be my neighbor!! The chair cost me $35 total. A perfect older style square office chair at a garage sale ($10), brackets and plywood. MsPsyco and I even upholstered the cousion on the right-arm padding using material from an old robe of mine, looks awesome. Now I just have to get my 'wings' back after a 3 year hiatus.
Psyco (play toy of MsPsyco)

I used the rocker switch on my afterburner, and now the rocker on my x45(which is pretty iffy) Much better than a twist IMO, since you accidently move the rudder by moving the stick.
Trying to get pedals though, the rocker on the afterburner is very nice, but on the x45, it seems to be designed for use by some sort of non-human.

I use the X36 Saitek throttle rudder thingy's and one of the posts describes the problem I have always had with them..When lining up a target it is almost impossible for me to use the Rudder thingy on the throttle to any advantage for a shot... I was
looking to purchase Foot Rudder Pedals this week because of this problem and now that I have another opinion on it I think thats a good option... Its worth a try!!

All analog CH gear here, getting all USB CH gear in 2 weeks only because I can ;)
-
Been using CH Pro Pedals for at least 8 years now, along with a Jane's F-16 Combat Stick and Pro Throttle. Don't think I can fly without my pedals as flying a P-38 without pedals kind of sucks.

Well - I just went out and bought a Microsoft Presicion Pro Racing Wheel about 3 weeks ago - comes with a gas and brake pedal that I would like to use for the rudders in AH - but I cant seem to figure out how to activate the pedals in the game and not the wheel.

Saitek X45/TM Elite rudder pedals......
-
I also use the X45 stick but i do not use the "rocker thing" for Rudder. I found it very uncomfortable and kind of jumpy. I remapped Rudder to the thumb rotery on the throttle. Its offers the finest rudder controll Ive ever had. If you've got an x35/45 and are not fond of the rudder rocker, try the rotery. I think you will like it.

CH Gear here.
I would think that if fewer folks use rudder pedals, it's due to a cost issue....twisty sticks are retarded for a flight sim, IMHO of course:)
-
yup.. notice there are no twisty sticks in RL planes

if i see a 109 with a tail wagging or not it will quickly be detailed

You going to paint Racing stripes on it, or maybe a flaming skull?!?!? Sweet!

Twisty Stick Here... I got better things to do then spend that much $$$ on rudder pedals... Like a graphics card

I picked up some TM rudder pedals back in 1995-96 I still use them. They are beat to hell, and I've had to make a few mods to them (rewired, drilled a hole in the base to keep the wires from chaffing, cracked one of the plastic braces). They work well enough, but unlike the CH Pro pedals, they don't have the toe break feature. Also, they take up a lot of room, but I like the wider stance compared to CH. I've never had a twisty stick though, so I don't know how to compare the two.

When I started out in PC flight sims there was no such thing as a 'twist stick' or any other type of hand operated rudder so I've always used rudder pedals, usualy TM ones. I did dabble with a Saitek X36 and a MS FF2 twist stick but never could get used to the feeling of less control compared to a set of pedals. I now have a set of TM Elites and USB CH Pro Pedals to use with my Cougar.
-
Home-made setup of course :D
-
Ch stuff, once you get used to em Hblair, dout you'd ever be happy with the twisty thing again.
Big learning curve though, gotta be carefull you don't twist the stick into multiple pieces trying to get rudder action:)
-
CH USB pedals.
Could not go back to anything else... taught the cat not to eat the cables no more too!

S!
Logitech Wingman usb FFB pedals (& wheel) with Saitek X36 usb HOTAS here.
Pedals are not the best for flight sims because you can push both pedals down same time.
Anyway I can drive or fly with same pedals and pedals just fit under the subplane under the table.

Using my TM Cougar(UeberCougar mod by IJ) with TM Elite Pedals. Good combo even the pedals need to be opened..the po is acting up now.

I've been using CH stuff since I started flying sims. I use a Jane's Combat Stick, Pro Throttle and a really old TM rudder pedal setup.
I have modified the pedals over the years, I use 1/2" bungee cords for my springs on it now and it gives a lot more "feel" to rudder usage than the original spring did. I also modified where you put your feet, took the original foot pads off and made a new set with a bar in front so I can fly with my heels on the floor and I can use the ball of my foot to move the pedals with. I had to mount it on a wooden frame that has a peice of rubber from a Pickup bed liner on the bottom to keep it from sliding.
I prefer the TM style rudder pedals for the simple fact that they are wide. The CH units are too close together for my taste but I have looked at the new pro versions and they look like they can be modified to suit me plus they have the neato toe brake feature.
I have never used a twisty stick other than to try it out and I just don't think I could ever be effective with one (not that I'm all that effective anyway :) )
Hblair, I really think you did the right thing purchasing those rudder pedals. I beleive it will give you more control once you get used to them. My main reason for wanting some was the fact they made flying the sims seem more realistic, but that is just me.
-
It's what you're used to hblair, it doesn't really matter allot IMHO.
I came from MS FFB stick with rudder axis in stick and went to Saitek X36 HOTAS (USB) combined with CH Pedals Pro (USB).
It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the pedals, I was often trying to twitch the stick of the X36 (with no result ofcourse).
Now I have the X45 with the same pedals and I'm really used to them.
:)

keyboard rudder.
and keyboard views...
makes me pretty much bound and blind when I type :D

ThrustMaster RCS, love 'em and wouldn't switch to anything else, but I do wish they had toe brakes. If I had to switch, I'd go with the Hofman pedals tho' :)

no sooner did I post how my old TM stuff is still alive then the pedals took a crap... needed band-aid fix
soo... I'm looking at ordering hofman
