Title: Sigh...no News in a while....whassup?
Post by: LePaul on February 19, 2001, 11:44:00 AM
The last couple of days I've eagerly jumped in here, hoping for new news (interpeted:  Renewed motivation to join in the Main Arena again).  Nada.  Not in a while.

We've been teased with some nice screen shots...but nothing new yet.  So, HTC, whatcha got cooking?

Heh, maybe we shouldn't pressure 'em so much to give us updates. We begged and got pictures of the 190F8, didn't we?

What might be a good idea is a .plan file for each of the devolpers. I remember seeing it on (don't flame me! please) planetquake.com - It was just a little text file/diary that John Carmack updated every week or so with what he was working on. Not sure how the whole system worked but it was pretty informative.

I forgot all about those plan files you mentioned.  Those were pretty cool, you could see the parts of the program they were really wracking their brains on and such.

But that would be too nosey for my likes if they did that here.  We just haven't had any news announcements in a while and like the rest of the folks here (except that I'm just the first to blurt it out)...naturally curious about what's out next.

There have been many topics here, so I was wondering how the jets were coming, if they'd take into effect jet blast and all those other little things.....if the perk system was going to still be introduced or revamped into something else (or abandoned)....the list goes on and on.

Thanks for humoring my post   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

We've just been busy trying to get 1.06 finished up.  It's not far off.  Some new screenshots will be appearing at simhq.com soon.

Kewl!

Main Arena was getting old for me, so lately I'm spending my time flying inverted thru hangars   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks Pyro for the update,

still means quite a lot to me(and Im sure others) that you guys do keep us informed. Good luck with the finish of 1.06.

When will we see 1.10?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Thanks Moose, but does it really matter?  Do we have enough of a track record for you to know that we're continuing the development and will keep it coming at a good clip without knowing the details?  One thing that's been reinforced to me during this period is that we're a lot more productive when we're just focusing on work.  Getting pissed off and demotivated is not the way to go into a final crunch and is only detrimental to progress.  I guess I'd personally rather hear the inevitable whining when I have a little breathing space than when I'm under the gun trying to get something done.  Sometimes it just really gets under my skin.

Not being a game devolper I cannot imagine the kind of pressure it must be like, and I hope you didn't take my 1.10 comment as a whine. (an ill timed joke perhaps?)

And you're right - htc's track record sofar has proven itself. You just have a lot of greedy players in your fanbase who can't get enough of this game. (including myself)

Great shots on SimHQ by the way, definitely surprised a bunch of people with the (RATO? JATO?) bottles which look incredible.

Well, I kind of understand why HiTech and Pyro do not spend time in this board...

Imagine trying hard to find accurate information about Ta 152H-1 or Yak 9T and once you publish first screenshots you are being told that 190D-9 would have been better or why the hell you modeled 9T instead of 9UT. And how some nations are forgotten completely and there is a bias in HTC agaisnst some planes.

Think how unmotivating it is for developers, they bring us new things and whining just goes up. Would it be better that they sit on their arses doing nothing like IEN folks just to avoid whines?

Wake up peaople!!! We are getting new planes to fly! Even if they are not the ones you would liked to see, things aren't any worser than before. So why whine?

If you look what kind of competition there is currently I think everyone agree that AH is technologically the best one. Arena format is matter of personal preference and one can't please all.

You do know a stall and a spin are two different things?

Just because it has counter rotating props does not mean that one wing does not have the potential to stall before the other, thus snapping in a specific direction.

I flew the P38 all day Saturday and noticed no anomolies, turns amazingly with no stall at all--I guess its just bad pilots flying the P38?

So "Ëxpert" superpilots ??
i guess so i fly it for 6-8 months now

and it drops always to the right, in that almost spin/stall whatever u wanna call it uberpilots. The crate is a symetrical thing

yeah i fly bad and i'm stupid too i should fly the nik or chog.

I'm not coming with data coz these have been posted by other guys but totally ignored.
and i'm not a data guy  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Funny, I've had it slip into a stall to the left(left wing drops first) without spinning.

correct to left side
no it doesnt spin but wing drops fast to left

Ok u can use it against a opponent to get good rollrate at slow speed.

still i think it's weird  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

The only thing weird with the 38 that I recall, is the tendency to snap roll during an accelerated stall. It's much like the F6F in that respect, you pull to hard it will normally make a complete 180 before the plane recovers from relieved back pressure.

The velocity at which is snap roll is pretty incredible, even at very low speeds, considering the mass and span of the P-38.

I had always heard the F6F and P-38 generally just mushed out unless you were really horsing the plane around or continued to apply back pressure throughout an accelerated stall.
