38cm Cannon with 345kg HE 14 or 15 rounds.
It would be fun for base attacking... :D
-
 did you say 345KG!?!?!?!?!??!!?
-
Let's not mix up the projectile weight and explosive load :)
Sturmtigers 380cm shell is 345-351kg and contains 125kg of explosives.
It is quite much comparable to german 250kg bomb.
There is also shaped charge round, which can penetrate 2.5 meters of reinforced concrete :)
-
Its range is approx 6,000m...You can destroy Hangars from looong range!
-
One from my archives, Sturmtiger in the German 'Technik museum' in Sinsheim.
Mitsu, what do you mean with 'Sturmmorsentiger?''
-
They blew up on takeoff, everyone knows that.

Very amazing that one even exists still. Very few were made and if you want any data on it I can dig it up. Made one for CC3.

Yes, I didn't know the spelling of it. Thanks.
BTW nice pics. :D

Sturmmorsen tiger was really an oversized rocket launcher not a cannon.
-
Imagine how it feels to thump this thing's frontal armour... they just don't make them like this anymore *g*
You can't really make out form the pic how toweringly big it is, it was taken with a wide angle lens, distorting perspective a bit. I asked I my best German if they could remove the Sherman for a better shot but to no avail (just kidding).
The museum (and it's sister museum in Speyer) are great, they have all sorts of stuff, from WWII relics, locomotives, fire engines, aircraft (also East German stuff), rare automobiles and even a 1960's vintage German submarine, open to the public.

Ya I did a post on this beast a while back be great fun to have:)

Actually.. it was breech loaded mortar :)
-
Only time it was used against armor one shot knocked out 3 shermans.

Not according to achtung panzer wich says it fires a rocket propelled projetile. Wich makes it a rocket launcher in my book.
But I think mortars use the same principle so they are essentially rocket launchers.

i think they get a little of both effects in the tank . like a mortar to overcom starting inertia. and alot of extra range and velocety from the projectiles internal fuel. allows for (relativly) tiny launcher compaired to the size and power of the projectile.
glad they didnt have that in 1939.

jesus 6000m can you imagin a arty barrage from a ten or 12 of thos 6 klicks out. DAMB what was the rate of fire?
-
Slow....
-
Reload times measured in minutes, IIRC.
-
just another german "super weapon" that didn't win the war but used up resources.

6 81mm mortars can put in a way better fire mission then 6 of those things..much less a battery of 150mm...
-
It wasnt used for suppression, I think it was used against fortifications.
-
ya..I know..I was responding to towds point about it being used for barrage.
As to its use in the game. Its only usefull for taking out gun emplacements or ships if they were close..and you could lead well... An ostwind can kill buildings far faster then the sturm tiger and defend itself against planes and half tracks.
The only value of that vehicle even in real war is if you have established local armour supperoriority and want to reduce strong points. Against normal tanks it is helpless. Against well armed infantry it is helpless. Against planes it is helpless.
In this game it would be helpless.

I agree with you that it would be useless in game.

I think we really have something missing from a battlefield if we dont have some kind of artillery though dont you guys?
there is lots of scope for artillery in AH i think.
we could have several tank mounted artillery peices added and then theres a new task needed , ie artillery spotting!
finally we would have a reason to add recon aircraft or perhaps jeeps or kubelwagons! :D
Artillery was a huge part of WW2 and i think it shouldnt be ignored in AH.
The only online game i know of that has artillery is battlefield 1942 and it is great fun to use. However that game just isnt serious enough to hold prolonged attention. If AH had artillery and it required some skill to get good with it could be a great addition i think.

I can see it now, Hazed flying along in an L-2 shouting into his mic..... "COME RIGHT 1/2 degree, DROP 150, FIRE FOR EFFECT!!!!!!"
:)

but 6 mortars wouldn't do crap for blocks of buildings :)

Vaguely I remember in DOA there was a arty element with co-ords coming from the observers in an spotter plane....there might be something in that for AH....perhaps some type of generic arty that can be called down from an observation a/c say a Storch, Fw-189, or Auster I-V.
