see ya here soon

Okay, I'm sending this thread to the Finance Officer, however, like I said in the other thread, we're tapping into 2003 reserves already! The chances are slim, I'll let the Missus reply :)
-
well.. ok.
sigh.. :)
actually if you are strapped for cash consider the spring/summer trip instead.
I can house 1 or 2 singles (no families sorry) and naturally there are no ski lift tickets to purchase to go fishing.
Mountain biking (on the mountain.. imagine that) is awesome in the summer and you can ride the lifts up for $10/day.
it allows a lot of downhill runs that will wear your bellybutton out none the less !!!
of course you'd need a fishing license but that's inexpensive.

Just keep yanking at my heart strings Wlf! Damn you!~ :D

you guys do a lot of 'dirt-skiing' there do ya? here in california we have this novel approach - we ski on the snowy parts- yeah it's great.;)
-
Mrs. Finance Officer,
My handle is Curval and I am the requisition officer for VMF-323. On January 11th, 2003 I am requisitioning Mr. Brian (Ripsnort) Nelson and family to join me and my family on a trip to Colarado.
Many thanks in advance,
Curval
PS. The word "no" is not in my dictionary ;)
-
where the hell do you see dirt ?
-
Yeah, there ya go Curval! She won't read it until tonight though, FYI.
-
My handle is Wlfgng and I am the marketing officer for snowmASSassin , CO . On January 11th, 2003 I am requisitioning Mr. Brian (Ripsnort) Nelson and family to Curval and family on a trip to Snowmass Colorado, where you will be treated to Rocky Mountain Splendor.. (better let Rip describe that in person).
Whats so great about that you ask?
Mr Brian (Ripsnort) Nelson will NOT be playing AH during this time....but instead focused on wife and family.
-
look at the foreground and all those exposed patches in the pic i posted - in the sierra we call that "june" :)
-
Thats the tree line mrfish, though I haven't skiied the Sierra's, I can tell you that Colorado IS the best skiing I've ever done (I've skiied the entire North East, Midwest, and Northwest)
-
i agree - colorado has great snow, probably the best in the US but i see dirt. i see the treeline but there are still a lot of exposed patches in the valleys - to me that means ice up the hill. not knocking snowmass, just that picture.
-
ps - where the hell does one ski in the midwest? even on the east coast i about fell down laughing at that little rope lift they call skiing - now whistler......that's skiing.
-
no dirt here..those are trees man..lol
-
are the west coast ski areas open yet ? I think not.
we're open and have a 50 inch base.. I.E. 50 inches of snow before you reach the dirt. :)
and there is NO ice
here's a different angle on the same hill.. see any dirt?
see.. Aspen/Snowmass got it's name from...hmm..

couldn't resist

Did you know that I have to make do with a poxy dry ski slope because god was unkind enough not to include suitable mountains when he built this place?
Pity me and my leet snowboarding skills which have never had the chance to run free on snow, as god intended, when you're up there rolling around in that stuff. :D
-
my condolences swoopy.
of course you're invited out to try out some
fresh champagne powder... February is the best month for it!
bit of a long (and wet) drive however...
-
now that's a nice shot- i'll be right over:)
50 in. can't argue with that
-
ROFL! When you finally get there please take a photo of you all skiing down Sam's Knob.
So many knob jokes so little time....
Gatso
-
I wonder if the snow cat on that run is named "Knob Polisher"?
-
man I knew that wasn't going to go unnoticed !
lol
I almost avoided putting the text on the pic altogether...
mrfish. I just posted the earlier pic (taken from 3 miles away) so the whole mountain could be seen.. even then it didn't fit :)
there is so much terrain here (and almost no lift lines once past the bottom lift) that you could ski all day and never take the same run twice and never get to ski them all...
I'll look up the acreage if anyone is interested.
-
Never been to Snowmass. The mountains there dont look to big. Do you guys have bowls, gladed skiing, any chutes?? From those pictures the mtns dont look very intimidating.
-
you know how pictures are.. they hardly ever portray how steep/large things are.
Snowmass has a 3000+ vertical drop.
longest run 7.x miles
the wall (top pic) is the steepest non-back-country terrain in Colorado.
(Highlands has the steepest bowls)
the headwall is pretty close in steepness.
I'll have to find the pictures from last year from up top.
tons of chutes, glades, bowls, you name it.
what you see in the pic is the part of the mountain the tourists generally start at.. I.E. the bunny hill/base.
Snowmass has 4 peaks (not including back country),
er.. have to run.. Town Manager needs help..
I'll pass on more info and pics tomorrow
notice my sig :) it's my 'thing'
-
more info for Curval, Swoop, etal
http://www.snowmass.com/
it's Central Reservations for the valley (here)
and they have some good deals I think...
Swoop.. things are looking good for the house party thing.
-
just a few composite shots..
should be self explanatory...
just to show there's plenty of variety.. from almost flat runs to almost vertical runs... hence:
I don't have any pics of the back bowls (yet)

Wonderful, now if I can only get the funds. Not looking very promising, but we shall see. Good lookin pics there. The original pics just made the mountains look small. I guess because every other resort I have been to has been surrounded by huge peaks. The town looks like its in a valley, kinda made the mountains look puny. I need to find the ones I have of the trip I took to Whistler in Jan. of last year. Man thats one hell of a resort, those boys up in B.C. got it good.

Whistler definately rocks, great pics man.
I'll post "skiing the steeps" pics later this year.
I agree about Snowmass being in a valley cuz it is.
the 4 peaks are tough to get photographed so that they look like the do in RL.
here's that info I promised:

Still awaiting a response from the Finance Officer.;)

cool .. that's where we used to sneak off to when we were in HighSchool.. get's damned cold up there though.. and windy as hell at times.
The 'cardboard derby' is usually held there along with SpringSplash.. good memories.
speaking of spring splash.. we have this thing here in the spring... a ski jump into a swimming pool...
judged by the crowd (of course)
and guess who usually wins? that's right...
we're heathens..
naked women (ok. they're wearing skis)
-
Im planning on some snowboarding trips this winter also.
:)
