I'm surprised. HTs announcement has been there a while.
Guess HTC got tired of not having lives :)
-
I for one am kinda bummed.
much further away and I don't have relatives to stay at....
-
I don't know, it doesnt seem that bad,...its only little over 1,000 miles from Austin to Indy, and calculated out at about 15 hours of driving. I'm going, either by air or car, but I'll be there.

it's fair though.. gives the east coasters a better chance to get there.
next one is out west right? ;
-
I guess Indiana is a bit more central. It doesn't make much difference to me as I will coming from the UK (providing that I can come at all).
Plus having someone else do most of it will ease the workload for HTC, which is, afterall, a very small company.
I'd be interested to hear HTcs take on this (not that they are required to give any of course).
-
JB42 and myself will definately be there :D:D:D
-
Will Borg and his camera be there? :D

I offered to HOST it since I had done a successfull CON for Air Warrior here in Indy in 2000.
If they said YES - Great - if they had said NO - I gave it my best shot.
They said YES.

I think it sucks....that's right, sucks.

The idea of travelling Cons is great. It's high time the Texans had to work for their debauchery!
Btw, it's still unofficial but the next one will be in Vancouver, Canada. On the itenerary (still in development) ice fishing and the great polar bear wrestle (you must sign a disclaimer in order to participate). For accomodations you'll need to sculpt your own igloo, but we'll provide the shovels. Happy hour gives you 99 cents off of backbacon. Ram will be the featured speaker, travelling all the way from Spain to be with us. Unless he quits. Beer falls like rain. Bring a toque!

1 1/2 hours away for me! :D
-
blah.
-
wtf is in indiana. chicago is a MUCH better midwest city where stuff actually happens.

Yes! That's him. He's the real life P-47 pilot from (forget the USAAF unit) who flew AW. I think he was flying AH too at one point but I'm not sure. If I could make it I'd love to meet him.
I had the pleasure to meet him. He lives near Grimm and me.

The last Con I left the hotel to do some shopping....twice (once to pick up some milk for coffee and the other to get some presents for the kids)...and I went to a restaurant which was basically in the parking lot of the hotel. Thats it.
If you are going to the Con...go to the Con. Ignore anything else.

This is great news....the idea of tackling the Texas heat never appealed to me...LOL...but I like the wandering convention...works out to be closer to me (Im in Maine) and its still located in a fairly central location in the US
I'm amused that some are peeved the convention isnt in their home town/front lawn....wow, grow up!
Good luck Jordi!

Still a long haul from good 'ol sunny Florida.
Texas was Total Distance: 1067.55 miles Total Estimated Time: 17 hours, 29 minutes
So heading the right direction anyway.

Haven't decided whether or not to attend this one. After 13 years of goin to con....gettin kinda tired :D .
BTW Jordi...
I, personally, didn't care for the hotel last time. It sucked to be run out of the hotel's common area at 2 am because 1/2 of the rooms open up to it and we were a bit...'rowdy' :D .

trust me, it's a good 18-20 hours. i did it last summer from san antonio to indy non-stop except for gas/munchies and a 90 min nap and it took slightly over 23hrs. it's 1250 from SA to Indy.
you might shave a hundred miles off if you take Tx 79 from n of austin to little rock, by passing dullass. it's mostly 2 lanes each way with occasional spots of construction, resurfacing/widening, and 1 lane sections where you get stuck behind trucks with limited passing zones. on the bright side speed limit is mostly 65 and i saw nary a cop - none, actually.
watch out if you take i-57(?) in the se corner of illinois. i was on fumes and damned if about 4 straight IH exits had shutdown gas stations - BP pulled out of the market and hadn't been replaced by any other company at that time. thankfully i finally found an exit with a shell open.
