Title: GeForce Ti4600 settings
Post by: Wail on November 21, 2002, 06:25:30 PM
I just downloaded the new 40.72 driver and wanted to set it up to run the game as good as it will. I am a total rooky at this, but here we go. My System is as follows:
Windows XP Home
AMD 2200+
512mg of 2700 Crucial Ram
Geforce 4 Ti 4600
MB Gigabyte 7VRXP
2  80gb Seagate HDs  striped 0
Audigy X gamer SC

What I would like to know is Where to set all the settings Like should I select the "Manually select the antialiasing mode" or "Allow applications to control the antialiasing mode"? And the Direct3D settings, i.e. Texture Anisotropic Setting & PCI texture Memory size ect.

There are alot more settings in there to mess with but Maybe someone has an Idea for me to try.

Thanks in Adavance

I play at 1280x960, and in the geforce settings, anti-aliasing at 2x.

If you wanna Anti-Aliasing (less jagged lines) you should set it manually, try 2X and see how better graphics look and what frame rate hit you get. A few applications (i.e. games) can manage AA from inside the application itself (I remember only SoF2).

Anisostropic Filtering make graphics even better but you should get a BIG hit on frame rate with the GeForce. But try it and see what it happens. Dont touch the PCI setting.

Good luck ;)

I use a Ti4200 at 1600x1200 res.
AA turned off personally prefer it at that res without, as last time i checked AA turned on it blurs the text on the gauges actually making it look worse.
If your monitor can handle it try 1600x1200 without AA, Fps is not an issue mine pegs at monitors refresh rate of 85.

AA does that Cav?  I always thought Anisotropic filtering was the culprit.  The text blurring is terribly annoying... thanks!

Yea i found especially at the lower resolutions that AA makes the scenery look nice but in cockpit i find it gets ugly and hard to read.
Mebbe i need glasses :)

There are a couple good utilities out there that will let you play around with your GeForce4 settings.  One of them is Riva Tuner.  Also, get MadOnion's benchmarking utility to see the effects of tweaking your board.

I wouldn't worry too much about framerate with the setup you have, as you are more than likely matching your monitor's refresh rate (if you have vsync enabled) throughout your entire time on AH.

People have had different experiences with AA and AF.  Try each out and see how it looks to you.  Obviously, the more features you turn on, the more work the card has to do, and the fewer frames per second it is able to render.

I don't think I've ever been below 60 fps, even in giant furballs with smoke and clouds.  Most of the time I'm pegged at 85 (only because I have it set to match my monitor's refresh rate).

I'd be careful using the 40.72 drivers.  They have a bad track record.  I went back to the 30.82s signed from visionteks homepage.  The 40.72 drivers were put together and released in to big a hurry.  They were leaked early because of Radeon and Windows XP and many many people have issues with them!  IMHO it's best to stay with the 30.82s in this case.....then when the 40.72s are signed...then I'll use them.  This is the first time I can remember that this many peeps have had many issues with a new NVidia driver.

I have to agree with Hajo on the 40.72.  They are signed now but a lot of folks still have isues with them so i am still on 30.82.  My AA experience is different from Cav's. I run AH at 1280x1024 on a Mitsubishi 22" with AA x 2 and text/guages crystal clear.  They do get fuzzyat AA x 4 tho.  At this res there are cockpit Jaggies without the AA.

Talking of the 40.72 WHQL drivers, i went back to some older ones as the 40.72 were giving me some intermittent large tears across the screen in AH.
Almost like a large triangle area stopped displaying an image.
