Its obvious why HiTech has chosen Indy for the next convention. Its not because Indy's location…being roughly in the center of the US and all. Its not because Indy is a beautiful town and very "convention friendly and all" No-I'll tell you why HiTech picked Indy-its obvious. Indy is the home town of the greatest WWII hero and pilot-a man that did more to win WWII than any other. Who? Colonel Robert E. Hogan!!!!!!!! What a great tribute to a true American hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Colonel Robert E. Hogan!!!!!!!!
Isn't he the guy from "Hogans Heros"? Ya know, always was getting over on Klink.
:D

Hooooooooooooogaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!
-
Sorry . .
Colonel Hogan's hometown was Bridgeport, Connecticut. This was stated in several episodes including #85, "Axis Annie" (1968).
In episode #166, "Hogan's Double Life" (1971), it was stated that Colonel Hogan was born in Ohio. He attended the aviation cadet school, graduated 3rd in his class.
In episode #97, "To the Gestapo with Love" (1968), Colonel Hogan said "if you’re ever in Cleveland, Ohio after the war, look me up."
No mention of Indiana or Indianapolis.
-
When's the convention gonna come to Japan and Korea? :D
In maybe 15 years?? :D
-
Do what Jordi is doing and head up the Far East Convention.

The real reason it's going to be in indianapolis this year is HTC just got tired of jordi emailing and calling and emailing and calling them every day begging to host the convention. They finally relented and said ok. ;)

Never said I was not persistant !
And if they had said no - I would have just gone off into the corner and sulked . . . :)
-
Why do you want to host the con?
-
How are the strip joints in Indy?
-
Hooters nearby ( 1 block away ) for those not adventuresome.
Several areas within driving distance ( or maybe walking distance to the hotel ? ) have them - have not been in any in a long time.
Not the expert here - sorry.
-
finally one i MIGHT be able to go to
-
There's at least one strip joint within 4 blocks or so of the hotel. In 99, I ended up there with the Deased Duck, Moggy, I think LW and several others at the end of Saturday night. Its all kinda blurry ;)
-
A strip joint called the Diseased Duck?!? Gross...

I wonder if that was the place I stopped at. Tried to find a hotel in that town on the way out to DC from Minnesota. Cheapest room I could find was 70 bucks, and the only place I could find beer for sale at was a nasty strip club behind the hotels.
Hate to say it, but I was not at all impressed with indianapolis when I spent 18 hours there. Rednecks, racecars, strip malls, and strip clubs as far as the eye can see. Course last year it was in texas so I guess thats not much of a cha...
Maybe I should be quiet now. ;)
I will probably be able to make this one though. Since nobody ever wants to go there the plane tickets are cheap!
hehe

Actually, Jordi just wanted to piss on the Tejanos.
Well, he didnt, but it sure is a nice side effect ;).

Please don't remind me of Col. Hogan. I still can't believe he tunneled all under my camp like that.
Indy is a great place for me. I grew up about 300 miles from Indianapolis so when I go home on leave I should make the con.
Will be the first one for me.

I attended an Air Warrior Convention hosted by Jordi in 2000. It was great. The Crowne Plaza Hotel to say the least is gorgeous. I think on the second or third floor, don't remember....I was in an alcoholic stupor, the outer rooms on the floor were actual Nickel Plate RailRoad Sleeper Cars. The Hotels' architecture leaves in tact that it was at one time a Railroad Engine and Car repair facility as I recall. You'll see.
Jordi did a spectacular job. Charles, "Bud" Anderson was guest speaker and through my alcoholic haze I believe Robert Shaw attended also. No....not the Robert Shaw from Jaws, I mean mouse.
The Wright Patterson AFB Museum is not far away and on two days buses were used to take con participants to the Museum.
Jordi did a spectacular job. I'm sure the 2003 year AH Con will be an event everyone will want to attend. By the way the Crowne Plaza is next to the Hoosier Dome....ferget what it is called now.
Jordi...make sure the sheep costume shops up again :D

MuckMaw asked
How are the strip joints in Indy.
Ha! here is where I get to strut my stuff and senior members with a kibillion posts be damned I AM THE AUTHORITY HERE!
Currently I live an hour north of Indy in a town called Lafayette. I used to work in Indy a few years back. To answer your question Muckmaw here are a few places of intrest.
PT's.....always a good time
Brad's Gold Club......fine fine place
But the number one place is not in indy at all but about 40 minutes north and that is called The Hip Hugger.
I would say more paychecks have been cashed, spent, blown (pardon the pun) at the Hip Hugger than anywhere else in Indiana.
Please note, I have never been to one of these "seedy" establishments, but I am willing to sacrifice an evening of my time show any of you that go to the con how to get to any of thses places........anything to help out the AH community you understand.
Oh yea......Rumor has it (not that I have EVER been there) that 15 bucks will get you a lapdance. So for the same price as one month of AH you can have your stick calibrated by a professional, but I don't think they offer a 2 week trial period.

LOL! no I was referring to DD, or Dead Duck, and old AW pilot. And I was trying to type deceased and screwed it up, but I think it came out even funnier. Was it 99 or 00 that year Jordi, I can't remember?
-
I just want to know when we redrew all the maps to put Indiana in the middle of the country....last time I checked it was in the upper right third.
Yea, sure its fairly centrally located to the major cities on the eastern seaboard, but poor old west coastgota trek another couple hundred miles:rolleyes:
I think rotating the con location is a great idea though. Maybe florida/georga next year or even Arizona/Nevada/California....give everyone a chance every few years to have it pretty close.
-
What is the center anyway? Omaha is close to the center of the nation, and that is actually a pretty nice city.... Would be cheap for a convention, that is a definite plus.
Jordi sounds like a real pro, cant wait.

It's not so much pissing anybody off rotor as it just appears a little strange to me. It kinda makes me wonder why somebody would want to bother hosting an annual convention of a game they rarely play. jordi is almost never in the MA, true he's a cm but he kinda leap-frogged the part of being a regular pilot in the game and just became "cm guy" and is now apparently going to host an AH con? Why would he want to? And you seem more giddy than he is. Do you have butterflies in your belly? You guys are weird. ;)
I might make it to this one (been saying that for 3 years so don't hold your breath)
Wow, just checked, it's a 7 hour drive from here. That's close! ou guys are weird in a good way. ;)

Jordi - I did cut my wings in the MA last year when I first joined up as AW was on its last legs. I may not put the HOURS in the MA but I do put the hours in the Special events Arean for TOD's and Scenarios. And catually for the MIDWAY Scenario we had MORE people in the SE Arena than there were in the MA arena. Plus I think the 300+ pilots knew me more than if I flew in the in the MA where just the guy who shots me down and my squad mates know me inthe MA.
Why you ask - I am a GLUTTON for punishment ! Actually I feel my AW and AH time are a conitnuation of my total ONLINE FLIGHT SIM TIME. After spending countless hours flying and dieing ( A LOT ) and flying again and doing it all over and over I feel my ONLINE TIME Is best spent doing things to HELP THE COMMUNITY. I do that by working on Scenarios. I also do that by HOSTING CON's.
Basically I made a PERSENTATION to HTC to host the con - ok i did bug them alot about thier decesions and if they needed more info. I was told by LOTS of people don't even try. It has always been in Dallas and it will always be in Dallas ! So I figured - what the heck - they worst they can say is NO - and I can walk away knowing I made the best offer I could. And they said YES.
And yes we are WIERD ! A normal SANE Person would never do this ! It does help to have some people helping who are as wierd as we are !
I might make it to this one (been saying that for 3 years so don't hold your breath)

That is what I am hoping LOTS of peple do. Look and really see how far it is. They can say - hmm - I can drive MUCH CHEAPER than I can fly - plus I cna bring my PC ( and wife and kids ifthey like ) and the hotel room is not to expensive AND I get to meet all the people I have been flying with and against all these years.
Hope you can make it

To those of you whining about an Indy convention...and whining about Jordis' flying time. Get a life and grow up. You don't know the gentleman and are actually coming off as children.
He does put in the hours to better the community. He always has. He probably has more experience in putting together a convention then anyone in AH. This community is smaller then the AW community was. He did a fine job in 2000 and I see him doing so in 2003.
Moving the convention yearly makes it easier for some who can't make it to different parts of the country to attend. AW conventions were moved on a yearly basis so all would have the opportunity. I sure wouldn't want my PC on an air liner being xrayed. Driving makes brining a PC easier and safer. Who knows who is handling the dam thing in baggage?
Unfortunately my work schedule precludes my attending the Convention at that date this year, or I would most certainly attend. Jordi has done a fine job in the past, and will do so in 2003. Alas..........there are I know some people who never will be happy with anything. So if you're not happy with this years Con Site.....keep your whining to a minimum unless you're able to do the job that Jordi has volunteered for. I didn't hear of anyone standing in line to take on this responsibilty.

Last AW con I went to was in Indy. Had a GREAT freaking time. AH CON, here I come. HARRRRRRR!
Thanks for hosting Jordi!! A BIG
heheheheh :D As for taking a computer thru the airport, I did it twice for AW (San Francisco and Dallas) both times thru Chicago. X-ray machine didn't hurt it at all. I checked it at the desk, had fragile stickerss all over it and everything was fine.
Would I do it again? HELL NO!!! What a pain in the fanny
:D :D :D

Wasn't whining, was saying what I was thinking. Is that ok with you? I thought it was.
I'll prolly come jordi. Seven hours isn't too much of a drive, and plus I'll give all the AW contingent the long awaited oppurtunity to meet me. :D

Which was along the same lines as those ever popular threads where someone has to have 240 hours per tour in a plane in order to have a valid opinion on it's flight characteristics.
So Jordi doesn't fly the MA but want to host a Con... works for me. The AW2000 Con was a hoot... wish I could remember it all ;)
-
Hey Jordi,
What part of Indy do you live in? I'm in the Westfield area.
Glove

NE Side of Indy - 62nd str between Michigan and Guin rd.
Offering to VOL and help at the CON ? ? Hint Hint !

No, not the same thing. I just questioned his reasoning, didn't to invalidate it.

OK... I guess your statements can be interpreted that way. I suppose I just didn't understand why ANYONE would question another person's intentions/reasoning if they are working toward a community oriented goal.
Whatever that devious Jordi's reasoning, I salute his ability to take the ball and run with it. Especially if it means I can go :D
BTW... for those of you who went to AWCon 2000... who was it that brought the homebrew that caused so much damage to the general population?

Hmm,
Volunteer? I'll have to think about that one and get back to you. :)
Have several variables that could affect whether or not I will have the time.
It could be a pretty cool experience though...
