You should see some of the 'Crazy' stuff we've done to enhance our gaming. Ask revvin for the plans for the cockpit. Get some wood, and some other materials, and step up.
I'll post a pic later when I get home. You'll see what I mean. And remember....my cockpit is considered primitive.

Yeah i am an amateur,:)
Well i was going to make it out of steel but if your wood design is that good maybe ill change my plans...
thanks for any info

So am I but I was shocked at the results you can achieve from these plans.
I'll see if I can find them for you. I know Revvin has a link, and if he's trolling the boards today, I'm sure he'll post it along with the results.
I've never worked with steel, but I ca only imagine it must be easier to work with wood, a jigsaw, a circular say, and a sander.
My wife won't let me play with a blowtorch.

Great if you could find them for me id be greatfull,
i have a bad habit of taking things to an unhealthy level

hey i want those plans for a cockpit...i might be able ot make one in shop class :)

This link ought to do it.
Keep in mind, those of us who built our own did a better job than most of these. A paint job makes all the difference. Mine is painted in the classic F6F blue.
Click the link at the bottom of the page to see the plans.

Comfy chair complete with 8" sub box under the seat. Perfect for hours of geeky fun in front of the computer! ;)

muckmaw that link took me to a site with some pretty horrible cockpits...theres some way better ones built by some people on this site.

You can buy those cockpits pre cut and pre painted should you not have the tools.

What your looking at there are the bare bones models. That's where you get the plans and from there, make your own alterations, as I did.
I think almost everyone I know who did this started with those plans and went from there.
I'll link a pic of my cockpit, built from those plans, then altered to my tastes. You'll see what I mean.

found this page whilst looking for real cockpit photos....gave a good laugh and realized some folks might be going a tad overboard.

Crazy? My brother welded a chair on a 350 engine once. Daamn thing you could only suggest a turn.
I totaled it, I haven't found a car yet that can stear while airborne.

hmmm combat crapper...good idea.
i intend on (eventually) building a slightly more realistic one (if i find i have room ill borrow a extra chair from one of my dads truimph spitfires) with a real working canopy...hurri2c simulator so it wont be tooo hard...

I see a couple of problems with those wooden cockpits. One being the PC so far away. You'd have to climb outa that thing to put a CD in, etc. But the main problem I see (for me) is the monitor being so far away. I'm a guy who has to have the monitor close-up. I just couldn't get used to such a reclined laid back position, I'd go to sleep. The car seat route is definetly one I'd take. Car seats are made for support and comfort over a long period of time....
-
hmmm if i did build my cockpit i would make it so that im actually inside it and no part of my body on the outside. meanwhile i would stash my tower beside my seat or just behind my feat

SOB's is by far the best I've ever seen...
I only wish I had an extra old man TV watching farty chair.

In the last picture Muck posted you'll notice a small gap just infront of and below his joystick, the cockpit comes in two pieces, the monitor 'desk' and the seating part. That gap seen in the picture is where you can make a simple single cut to shorten the overall length and bring the seat closer to the 'desk' You can also adjust the set for a more upright position or more laid back.
