Title: wireless router suggestions
Post by: Mogi on November 25, 2002, 08:30:23 AM
Squaddie is looking to buy a wireless router for home use.  Has anyone had any problems with wireless and Aces High?  Could anyone provide any router recommendations please.

Thank you,
Mogi

I bought my parents the Linksys unit with the 4-port ethernet switch built-in.  It works great but I did not test it with games.

I picked up the Linksys BEFW11S4 (http://linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=22&prid=415)  4-port wireless router ($99) this weekend and hooked up my wifes PC with a wireless Linksys PCI card. Easy to setup and works great. I played AH and Raven Shield on it with no lag. Seemed as fast as my direct connect. Now I will pick up a Linksys WET11 and hook up my Xbox wirelessly. My wife will be so pleased not to have a 30' network cable laying across the floor. :)

I got a Linksys WAP11 last year and really like it.  I chose it over the one with the built in router because it has slightly better range and is more flexible.  For example, it can be configured to act as a bridge between wireless networks.  This is a feature many consumer WAPs don't have.  I'll never use it, but it appeals to my geeky side.

WAP11s are probably best if you already have a working network and don't need another router.  Of course, it's been over a year since I got it, so maybe there's better stuff out there.
