Everyone rants about violence in computer games and how it creates little monsters.
On the other hand, agresivity is a necessary trait for a succesful fighter pilot, and I'm sure most of you are agrresive in the game.
But.... have you started applying this aggresivity in RL as well?
-
Yes....as a matter of fact, I'm omw to England this afternoon to whoop some sense into Beetle and Dowding:)

Yeah but you won't be able to take your guns with you so you'll be torn up by the expert sharp object wielders.

Actually, I find myself driving slower in the mornings and afternoons when commuting to/from work. One thing I learned from AH (in addition to keeping vigilance at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock directions) is to not approach the target in front of me with too much speed, or I'm liable to overshoot and/or collide.

lolo good ones....
Yes I yell CHECK 6 to my fellow MAW;s on the golf course...

Got in my BMW Sunday. Was going to brothers house to watch the Browns game. When merging onto Interstate 80 I saw a mustang about my 10 o'clock... coalt He was in a high E state in the passing lane 3 lanes over to my left. Hajo hits wep......his BMW powerplant reverberated into a deep crescendo. The Pony driver, oblivious to my prescence did not notice Hajo merging from his 4 to his 6. Evidently he was speaking on the radio, he was holding something up to his ear. The BMW closed in to 900, 800, 700, then 500...........when got to within 150 I saw the terror in the pony drivers eyes as he tried to evade by rolling right (he merged into the right lane)....however he could not shake me from his 6 as I cut in front of a swedish fighter (SAAB) and managed to get a few shots off into his tail (trunk). The pony driver was trapped, he was in a major furball with nowhere to go. He had a line of 3 buffs (16 wheelers) in front of him and a couple of drones to his 3 and 9 (drones = SUVs) He knew he was gone...and as I lined him up for the throat shot, he saluted into the rearview mirror, and went down in flames (exited the freeway). Combat Patrol thereby being completed, I continued rtb (to my brothers house) humming Wagners Flight of the Valkyries.
I don't think I'm any more aggresive since I've started playing AH do you?
Hajo

I like it Hajo! My only "kill" story is a rabbit that wasn't quick enough.. :D

Oh dear. Threatened from behind a computer screen by a pair of hand-bag wielding old duffers. All I have to say to that is:
Bring it on, squeakes!
Anyways, I should have thunk y'all have difficularity finding a flight to the Yoonited Kingdum. It being a pissant lil country an' all that don't even speak proper English.

I`m a Train Driver in the UK and since joining AH I find great pleasure in smashing various small birds against the train`s windscreen at 100mph. Pigeons really EXPLODE at 100mph.
Even better, is to wait until a passenger/human gets on your 6
(on the platform) then hit the "Door close" button and either catch him halfway into the train or leave him standing and swearing on the platform :D
My favourite though, is to approach an airfield (station) with lots of E. Then watch them all rise to meet my approach, only to leave them all standing as I zoom by at high E
If anyone is turned on by this vicious approach to public services please contact me;)

I call BS on this one.
It is a well known fact that trains in the UK only have two speeds:
a) 25 MPH
b) Cancelled
Which side do you fly for, train-boy? Because the next time I'm stuck on some freezing station platform waiting for a train that is running on supposedly the mother of all railway networks (lol!), at least I'll feel warm satisfaction due to the knowledge that when I get home, I can go spoil some sodding train driver's evening by shooting the bastard down.

Dowding Hi!!
:D
I drive for Chiltern Railways based at Aylesbury Bucks.(London Marylebone to Birmingham Snow Hill)
I fly for Bishops, normally a C47.. I love to take people for a ride:D
I could talk for hours on why the delays occur.. It all boils down to 2 reasons:
1. Too many trains running on a line that does not have the infrastructure to support that amount of trains.....
2. The failure of Railtrack and various Governments to invest in upgrading/repair/maintenence/enhancing the existing rail infrastructure..
Sorry to sound so officious, but that is the root cause of the problem..Most Train Operating Companies (TOC`s) Really try to provide a good service..Most times we do..But there are SO MANY things that drivers/TOC`s have absolutely NO control over...All we can do is turn up for work and see what cheese has been handed to us on this day....
Please feel free to kill me on AH as much as you like..I`m used to it anyway. As, like most Bomber/Goony pilots I`m used to having

RUBBISH!! When I was in the UK, the biggest killer of train services was "Leaves on the track".
Cut down all ya frickin trees and cancel autumn and the UK rail system would be fine.

That comment coming from someone who lives in a country where there are more sheep than people.. Really amazed me!!? I didn`t know that sheep could type :D
For your information..2 weeks ago, me and my train, plus about 400 passengers slipped, (totally out of control) for over 2 miles!!!
This was due to "Leaves on the track" !!! So If you think that is funny, then go f*ck yourself
Imagine being a pilot in a 747 and you can`t control the speed or direction or danger that you and your passengers are going into........ NOT VERY FUNNY AS*HOLE
You ever come to England, please arrive in the Autumn and I guarantee you a ride that will scare you (sheep shagger) cheeseless!!!!!!

Today I submitted a post. This was in response to a light hearted (possibly serious), initial post by udet..
What did I receive???? Let me tell you...................
Certain people believe that they know all there is to know about another persons job/business.
They decided to let the world, and me, know that they knew best !!!!!
To the three individuals involved: Dowding, palef and beet1le, let me ask you this: If I walked into YOUR office and started to tell you, what you and your company were doing wrong, you would throw me out the door!!!! Telling me that I knew nothing about the particular business you were involved in. However, you lot decided to go one step further and inform the whole of AH that you knew more about my business than I did.!!!
Ladies and Gentlemen. Let me tell you something:
These three people are typical of the attitude that is prevalent in this world today.
I hope that the rest of the AH community are not as biased/prejudiced/insecure etc. etc. as these three individuals.
I feel really, really upset that 3 people who I do not know and who know nothing of the work that I do, feel the need to take the p1ss/humiliate me/belittle my job etc.etc.
If this response is taken poorly/wrongly then GOOD. It may make people think twice before they belittle (I could think of stronger words) someone elses job..
Have a really nice train journey

Now breathe - that's it - let it out - and breathe in - big deep breath.
Anyone else get the feeling that AH may have made AV8 a little aggressive? :D
I was suffering under the misaprehension that an Englishman wouldn't need smilies to indicate satire.
I humply beg your forgiveness.
Currently dealing with some of those sheep, and I've lost one of my velcro gloves so I'm a bit pre-occupied.
And I love scarey rides, so I'll look you up next time I'm there. :)
Btw, fwiw I used to commute from Southampton to London by train twice a month and the service was far superior to anything offered in NZ.

The first time I heard that disembodied voice, I was just stepping into a tube train, and I stopped dead and looked around for the person who had said it!! Perfect timing.
Thanks for accepting my comments in the way the were meant. ;)
And for not making any sheep jokes for which I am eternally grateful.
And I enjoyed my time in the UK immensely and the public transport system was so good it left me gasping. You guys don't know how good you have it.

Hi palef,
you still (conveniently) ignored my initial statement about making remarks on another persons job, or ability to do the job!!
My initial remarks still stand: Go and play with your sheep, because that is all you know and understand..

Hmmm... I was only pulling your leg AV8. Didn't mean to cause offence. I'm sure you do a great job and wasn't casting aspertions of any kind.
I still can't believe I need to write this post - your comments were out of order given the context.

AV8 - what the hell are you talking about? I simply made that joke that paraphrased rail management when they had the problem with the snow that time. I'm not saying a word about how you do your job, or how the railways should be run.
I think dowding and I are due an apology, or at least a retraction. I can't believe you said what you said. :(

Of course I did because it is self serving and childish.
As Dowding has said, there was no offence intended, and I really do apologise for "winding you up". That was not my intention.
As for having people make comments about another person's ability to do their job, I work in IT, and have had to develop a fairly thick hide and head to other people's inisistance that I have no social skills and can't finish projects, before I have even met people or begun a task on their behalf.
Also have you ever noticed how friends and family immediately assume that you will spend hours fixing their PC for absolutely no recompense whatsoever because you work in IT and it must be simple to sort out? Irrespective of your particualr IT discipline?
Now I suggest that you either go on an Anger Management course or stop playing AH (if that has indeed prompted your aggressive outburst) before you start speeding up for level crossings.
palef.
PS the sheep jokes are really, really, old. For a country that has such a proud tradition in the comedic arts that line of "comedy" is tragically pathetic.
PPS watch the language in future please.

I saw this, and couldn't help observing how appropriate it was to a discussion on aggression:
While no law can be 100% effective, Britain has no “gun culture”, and much stricter firearms controls which have contained the annual tally of gun related homicides to a double digit value - fewer than one fiftieth of the American gun-related homicide rate per 100,000 population.
And virtually every male between 21 and 32 in Switzerland keeps a full-automatic weapon in their home, and 40% of the cantons do not require a permit to purchase a handgun, yet Switzerland's homicide rate is comparable to Britain's. Italy's gun laws are the most restrictive in Europe, and its homicide rate is twice that of Switzerland. Japan also has highly-restrictive gun laws, and its homicide rate is half that of Britains -- but the homicide rate among Japanese-Americans is comparable to the homicide rate in Japan, which strongly suggests that it is the culture, not the laws, that most greatly affect homicide rates. BTW, the homicide rate in England doubled after the last round of tightened gun control laws; in the US, states with "right-to carry" laws have a 19% lower homicide rate and a 39% lower robbery rate than states that allow little or no concealed carry. The nine states with the lowest violent crime rates are all right-to-carry states.
But to bring the post back to aggression, the US has a long tradition of gunslingers, both lawmen, vigilantes, and bandits, even though that tradition is an invention of Hollywood -- there were fewer homicides per capita in the Old West than there were in New York City. But the 'cowboy mentality' ("It's the Code of the West, son. If it moves, steal it. If it's too fast to steal, shoot it. If it's too big to move, foreclose the mortgage.") survives, and has created its own archetype for fighter pilots. Where Europe had the 'knights of the air' stereotype that WWII mostly beat out of the pilots on both sides, the subculture of American fighter pilots pulled its ideal out of the Hollywood gunslinger image, where aggression was a prime characteristic.
The most obvious thing that AH, and WB and AW before it, has done for me is increase my SA, most noticeably while driving. It has become easier to mentally keep track of the dozen or so nearest cars (after all, it's only 2-D, not 3-D; you don't have to worry about cars merging on you from your high 7 o'clock, for example. Well, not unless someone's gotten real gay at an overpass), so I can maneuver more confidently in traffic. From the outside, it probably appears to be more aggressive driving, but from my side, it's just better information management.

So the thinly veiled swearing was justified? Now, if I'd called your mother a potato, said your wife was a deeply ugly woman or attacked your religion or football team... I could understand. But everyone jokes about their jobs, surely.
Anyways, chill; it was meant to be a light-hearted jibe not a personal attack. If I'd known you would be that sensitive about it, I wouldn't have bothered but I think most people can see it for what it is. A friendly J.O.K.E.
Out of interest - you did notice the smiley at the end of my original post didn't you? I thought that clearly demonstrated the intent of the post - funnily enough, that's why I put it there.

I have just searched the whole of AH`s postings, both in this section and all the others....
The only person I could find who received what could be construed as a "personal" attack about their job was SKUZZY !!
Read the above dowding and tell me honestly you would not get upset if someone blamed you personally for your company`s failings! And did so on a highly public network that is read by literally hundreds, if not thousands of people throughout the world
Now add this point: That same someone also calls you a "BASTARD" !!
Would you not climb out of your pram???????
I rest my case

Interesting, I've noted the same when playing ice hockey and racing carts, both of which are my hobbies. I've found it easier to maintain "SA" without having to turn the head as much. Definately an advantage when looking for someone to pass the puck to, or overtaking and maneuvering in heavy traffic: especially during the race start.
