I'm havinng problems with the y axis just going dead and losing all elevator control. It seems to be pretty random, I'll be flying along just fine than it just dies with no warning. I cant calibrate in windows or in Aces High, but if I leave the stick alone for a few minutes and come back it calibrates fine. Have my pots gone bad?? Does thing thing even have pots???? I've only had the stick for a couple of months so I dont know a whole lot about it.
System
Win 98SE
AMD Athlon Tbird 950
Asus A7V KT133A Motherboard
384 MB RAM
Direct X 8.1
BTW this happpens in Aces High and in a couple of other games I've been playing. The only change I've made to my system is DirectX 8.1 but it worked fine for a week or two after I installed it.

Have you opened it up to see if the pots are secure? I suspect that the hot glue that holds the pots in place has failed:( Possible connection to pots has failed. Should be a problem that is visible with the old naked eye. Good luck.
