It does 410 mph TAS top speed at alt, but only for brief periods. At top speed with radiator closed, it overheats quickly and if pilot is not careful, engine damage is certain.

Yep, crappy engine model in that game.
Looks like he is making big improvements for FB though. I saw an FAQ where he is going to model constant speed props and all the correct prop control modes for different planes.
-
Man that is a sweet 3d model though.
I can't wait for Spits. :)

Anyone know if the wing checkers on that pony are also on the bottom? I would love to build a pony with those markings and I have an unbuilt Hasagawa kit...

357th fighter group profiles. Awesome website with 3 views for every plane in the 357th FG.

What's a tiffie doing in Il-2? I assume these are player mods?

Hey there Pongo! That is ONE OF OUR BIRDS! THE
325th FG "THE CHECKERTAIL CLAN" 15th AF.
To answer your question: # 77 was one of the birds of the 319th FS of the 325th FG. The "Checkers" were on the upper and lower wingtips as well as the upper and lower tailplanes.
Some of the later war birds even had checkers on the drop tanks and gear doors.
She is a REAL beauty, wish we had those colors in here! :D
Check out some of the birds on our website. Hit the link below my signature.

It's a Tempest MkV and it's a player developed model. AFAIK it isn't scheduled to be in the FB release but in a patch at some point er later on.

Hristo,
DROOL!!!
:)
-
go to http://www.il2center.com , forum section for more info
FB will introduce many new planes, but still somewhat limited to EF. Player add-ons, however, go as far as 1946, Bearcat, Go229, P80 etc. Players do the models and skins, Oleg and team do the FM.

"* Very low maneuverability and bad acceleration at low altitudes compared to Soviet two engined bomber Pe-2"
Guess which plane the russians are talking about here....

I want that Spit!

From what I've seen, it's probably some aircraft which had much better acceleration and maneuverability than the Pe-2. :)
-
that kinda narrows it down, eh.. ?
-
That P-51 looks very sweet.
I can only hope for a P-38 sometime :)
Hristo did you get to fly the pony?
-
P51 is AI only until they get to model the cockpit.
As for performance, Oleg has mentioned his sources stating somewhat suspicious top speeds for P51 (;)). Something about 410 mph at alt and brief periods (about 1 minute) and then overheat and damage. Best to wait until it is flyable and see.

no way on the go-229!

Maybe Oleg forgot to drop the drop tanks...410mph..lol

is this IL2 thingie ever going MMOG?
It seems like a nice effort in many ways, however, I gave up boxed sims after I discovered AWDOS some 12 years ago and have never looked back.

This question has been presented to Oleg several times and he never gave a definite answer. Reading through the lines though, he seems to have it planned for some time, but that's just my impression (he discussed online code, servers, costs and actually stated that he has a team more than capable to do it).
Right now the whole development team is focused on FB, which is an offline/online sim, certainly not 24/7 MMOG.
-
Still, with the 3 big online arenas/campaigns (Ilyushin Online War, Dead is Dead and Virtual Eastern Front) IL2 offers a very enjoyable online expierence. It's like an ongoing ToD or series of mini-scenarios. Fly to achieve the mission goal and live! 16 players max but with added AI and ground units thrilling every time! All on full realism without icons (IOW without padlock even).
---
I would love to see IL2 go MMOG but as stated that won't happen with FB nor the next sim from Maddox Games - but who knows the future? IL2 has great potential: last SAT over 560 pilots online in Hyperlobby ALONE!!!!

my baby in IL2...

There's Fw 190A-9 for you in FB ;)
-
What's so good about the A-9? All sources I have say it's just a proposed Rammjaerger which incorporated the BMW801F-1 and heavily armored wing leading edges.
With only 6 prototypes?
-SW
-
Isn't it supposed it have a lot mor epower tha the A8?
Having said that the A8 in Il2 is somewhat porked anyway: I'm hoping for some FM changes in FB.
-
A9 adds to A8 a much more powerful engine the 801F or 801TS IRRC, a standard blown canopy, new 14 blade cooling fan, and new wide blade prop.
-
Is it a rammjaeger by default?
Seems to me the more powerful engine would be negated by the extra armor around the cockpit/wings?
-SW
-
No matter what you think of the game... they do make some pretty planes.

Does this mean somebody finally found documentation of Fw 190A-9 series production, performance, and delivery to the Luftwaffe?
-
I guess so, you can find references to A-9 and F-9 even on the net. I guess TsAGI has something, afterall, they overrun Cottbus.
Anyway, A-9 will be like A-8, but with roughly 300 hp more and TS engine.
But the real beauty getting ready for post FB is Do-335, both A and B versions ;).
-
Okay, so my info is wrong Iguess. I've never really read much on the A-9, so I really don't know much about it but what I've read in my books.
So it will simply be an A-8 with no added armor and an upgraded engine? Not a Rammjaeger with extra armor and structure strengthening?
I just found this link on the internet: http://w1.354.telia.com/~u35402103/page18.html
Main Page here (http://w1.354.telia.com/~u35402103/page3.html)
That's the A9, but I have no idea what language that's in. Finnish I guess... but I can make out that it was an experiment version.
But the armament can't be right... 4 MG FFs?

The consensus in Il-2 boards is that many A-8 were field modified to A-9 by installing new engine.
At first 801F engine was proposed, but they went for 801TS engine. From numbers, it seems that TS engine was optimized for lower altitudes and had output up to 2270 hp (with boost).
So, it will be like a Dora but with 4 cannons and rollrate and pitch response of A series.
I really don't know what Oleg is making, I can only speculate. A-9 has been officially announced as included in FB, which will be released in February. Interestingly enough, he thought of it as unnecessary, but changed his mind along the way.
There have been some discussions at Butch2k's page.

That looks to be a very good 190.. think it'll compete with the La7? Not in turn fights, but overall...
-SW
-
K-4 will, any 190 will be dead vs La7. imo
