I'm all for science marching on, and all that.. but do we really NEED a way to make more people?

Only if they are just like me. :)

Spare parts?
-
I've read somewhere that clones are aging much faster than normal.
-
but do they dream of electric sheep?

Would that explain why Bush has the body of a 50+ year old, but the mind of a 12 year old.
But then again, we are about to kick-off Gulf Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.
Would ya believe it!?
-
Man, you guys missed the most important part of that story...
"Other groups are reported to be trying to create baby clones.
One such organisation is called Clonaid. Its parent body is a religious movement known as the Raelians, which believes that humans are the result of a genetic engineering project run by super intelligent extra-terrestrials."
LOL! :D

gree dowding... i thought it explained why england was shrinking and becoming less relevant... but then I don't know anymore about england than you do about our pres..

That's androids, not clones.

Gulf Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.
you mean:
Gulf Wars: Episode II - Clone of the Attack

Unless one is coerced to pay for it, why would one ever care? If one is so coerced (by opressive collectivist/socialist government), that would be better cause for concern.
SOB: "... Clonaid. Its parent body is a religious movement known as the Raelians, which believes that humans are the result of a genetic engineering project run by super intelligent extra-terrestrials."
LOL!
You should read what the christians believe - it's absolutely hysterical. In their version the humans are also the result of a genetic engineering project but run by a single super intelligent extra-terrestrial! :D

and what about the copy of a copy...?
does it live at 4x speed?
(if the first clone is 2x)
ah.. and now we have a real reason to use seconds, thirds etc..
George senior, junior, the third, etc...
-
As I said on AGW, it's only a matter of time until Al Davis creates 2 clones of Bo Jackson.

Thats a good question, but whats even more interesting is...will the Clone want YOU for spare parts? ;)

I highly doubt that, unles they are interested in a "fixer-upper". :)

that is certainly an interesting thought about spare parts..I go both ways on that..I need a kidney, but don't know how I'd feel about carving a clone to save my own life. or rather, having someone born JUST to supply another. now if they found a way to clone just an organ and grow it in a jar or something, that would be ok.
-
Whats wrong with spare parts?
I recently tore my ACL in my knee. Prior to the reconstruction, they gave me the option of having an autograft or an allograft. An allograft is an ACL from a cadaver... a spare part.
I chose the autograft anyway
-
Through genetic engineering and cloning research we may soon be able to grow spare parts for your particular body in a pig or other similarly sized animal.
Pigs with human hearts..... now there's irony for ya.
-
we already have those... they eat at McDonalds
-
I don't think this should have been done.
Given what has happened to cloned mammals so far I think this is extremely cruel to these children.
:(

I think they called it "pithing" with frogs long ago in biology class. Basically cuts nerve endings to the brain so that the subject feels nothing, but everything works. Heart goes? One right there, guaranteed not to be rejected. Liver? Party as much as you want! Get a new one!
So now we are discussing possible "rights" of these clones? Mega-can o' worms.

Do the pro-lifers think it would be immoral to "abort" a clone while it's in a test tube, what about non clone test tube babies.?
-
Once again I ask... what if the Clone wants your spare parts?

In the scenario I described above, the clone would not have any higher brain faculty, that is, he would be a functioning turnip.
In any case, I would use the thesis, "First come, first served"
;)

OK. Lazs, my post was a cheap jibe, relevant to the subject at hand. Yours was just irrelevant.
Carry on at what you're good at, kid.
