Notes:  The D-3 was at one time modified to carry two personel pods attatched to the upper wings. These parachute delivered pods were, if successful, to be used for the delivery of clandestine agents. .... ....

Maybe they had models like MkIb "Goebbels" which, because of the pointed nose, had better penetration than MkIIIa "Goering" which was the real fat-boy used against troops.
