Title: Film Viewer Crashing
Post by: TheCage on November 28, 2002, 11:12:20 PM
Recently I upgraded my drivers for my ATI 9700 pro and ever since the film viewer loads to the point where it puts the pizza map in the window then my system reboots.   Anyone have a clue what might be causing that?  Everything else game related works fine, just the film viewer now crashes my system.

System Specs.

2.0 Ghz Pentium
Asus P4B266 MB
512 Mb mem
ATI 9700 Pro 128
Sound Blaser Live audio card
Windows XP Home

I haven't been able to use my film viewer either. Each time I try to run it, I get an error message and the thing shuts down.
Before this latest patch it ran fine.

did you remove the old drivers for the old card and re-install directX (if it applies)

I haven't tried reinstalling DirecX yet but yes I did remove all the old drivers and cleaned out the registry.  Even tried reinstalling AH but still the same problem.   Not sure why but if I rename the Akdesert terrain so it doesn't load the viewer will load completely but will not work.   Like I said everything else works fine including the film viewer that is built into the game.   I will try reinstalling DirectX and see if that helps.   Thanks

Still can not get the film viewer to work.  Tried to reload Directx again but it still crashes.   Only time it doesn't is if I rename the AKDesert map so it doesn't load.   Although the viewer loads, it will not run any films.   HTC is it possible to fix the viewer so that when it loads it has a blank screen instead of a pre-fixed scenery?  Like a blank movie screen or one that just displays the AH logo.

Yep, trying to open film viewer boots my computer as well.

P4-2.53GHz
Asus P4PE
Radeon 9700 Pro (Catalyst 3.0)
1GB
WinXP

Film viewer works fine on my other computer, Celeron 1200 with GF4MX.

LLv I did finally get the thing to work.   I tweaked my system a bit, changed the video mode, and renamed the AKDesart map and now for some reason it works fine.   It now loads up with the old default map instead of the AK map.

Thanks Cage. The viewer tried to open with Mindanao, so I renamed the terrain.  Now the film viewer opens with a blue sky background, but I cant view any films with it. I try to open a film and press play, but nothing happens.

It should work with the Mindanao map.   At least my problem was with the AKDesert map.   Once I renamed the AK map it opened and ran with the Mindanao map.   What will happen is if you leave the cursor over the viewing section it will show the hour glass like it's busy.   Move the cursor over the menu bar and the hour glass should disappear.   Then you should be able to load and run the films.

It doesnt show the hour glass but it doesnt play the film either. It shows the path and name of the film in the bottom bar, but it doesnt play.

I just shows blue sky in the main screen, with the green version number in the top left corner and the white HTC text on the bottom.
