Will we ever be able to make skins for our planes in the Main Arena?

Probably not, not soon anyways.
Judging by some of the stuff that's been posted, that is a Good Thing(tm).

The new terrain editor does allow you to create custom plane skins but only as part of the terrain, if that makes any sense.

I think allowing everyone to be able to make and then upload their skins to the AH servers would be ripe for abuses.  You'd see Rainbow colored Spitfire skins, Pink with lace trimming La7s,  Rose colored N1K2s and the like.  Not a pretty sight.

I think that some of us might be a little bit sick of the skins that were modelled in AH already. So what HTC can do is take all skins that people have made and the original skin made for the plane and take a vote with everyone in AH what skin they would like to utilize for the plane. For example, take an F6F with the multicolored Minsi III on it instead of the dark blue. Hopefully no body thinks this is stupid, but SALUTE all!!

There have been several new skins associated with different maps. Examples include the SBD for the Midway event and the Kittyhawk (P-40E) and Bf 109E for the Greece scenario in the CT. Certainly, there can be differing skins associated with new maps. Therefore, as maps are added, there is every reason to suppose that new skins can come with the maps, should HTC decide to use them.

My regards,

Widewing

How about if HTC were to provide a whole bunch of different paint schemes (perhaps created by players) from which to choose per aircraft?  That might be cool... of course, Spits and La7's really should be allowed pink :D

To take your idea one step further, how about how it's done with the nose art?  When you send in your squadron's nose art, it has to be approved by HTC before it's uploaded to the servers and finally downloaded by the client (you).  Maybe the same thing could be done with custom plane skins.
