I've been playing Aces High for about 3 years now. In that time, there have been some excellent updates. My favorites were when we got carriers (which had some pretty funny and frustrating bugs at the start) and that awesome aircraft update when we got the La7, D9, and the Yak-9T.
You might cry about the La7 and D9, but you have NO IDEA how many Spits and P-51s used to be in the arena before this update came along. It really spread out the planeset.
I like scenarios, but 99.9% of the time Aces High gameplay is the MA. Why is MA gameplay secondary? Why are MA aircraft secondary? The last aircraft released that got any minor attention in the MA was the 110g2 which was quickly re-evaluated to a low ENY value. That's sad.
I guess that's what's bothering me the most. What makes AH fun for me are new and interesting (and at least modestly competitive) aircraft to learn and fly in the MA. So far in 1.11 none have been mentioned, which is a trend that I've been following for way too long.
Lately, updates take too long and there isn't enough new content for the MA. I hope 1.11 is different.

Does this get rated as a an "I Quit" or a whine post?
Ahh well, I'll give ya 6/10 for effort.
Face it - your an addict. No one ever really leaves AH...
-
Hardly a "I quit" whine. I don't have the enormous ego required to make myself think other people give a crap whether I play or not.

I'd like to be the first to add...BRING THE P47M TO Aces High.
ps. Will send 3 cases of moon pies

Moon pies are worth more than your soul. Mmmmmmm.

The P-47M will be a hangar queen.
Bring the Ki.84-Ia to AH!

Forget all that noise, BRING THE BE-ER12 TO AH!!!!

I hate to rain on your parade... but do you know how long I waited for the P-40B because everyone was demanding all those monster late war planes? Don't tell me the P-40B was a waste of resources just because most people won't fly it. I fly the P-40B in the main arena. I don't care about losing planes, I am here for the fun. The older planes that freaks like me prefer were neglected far too long. It is our turn to get something we like instead of being releases dominated by late war perk planes.
Planes like the early P-38s should have already been in the set, where are they?
Ripsnort has been waiting for a P-61 half of his life ;)
Mitsu would love to see all the appropriate Japanese planes (including some MA types like the Frank).
What about the He111? With the announcement of the Stuka, it is the last major LW plane needed to complete a decent BoB planeset.
Of course there are some people awaiting Brewster Buffalos and Gloster Gladiators.
The Italians feel a little slighted since they had several competitive planes and only the 2002/2005 shows up.
What about the Russian planeset? Early war fighters, multi-engine bombers...
While so many planes have already been done, there are still so many to do. Personally, I am happy with the pace HTC is doing. It shouldn't be too much longer before this game includes every major aircraft regardless of timeframe or performance.

"BUT YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE!"

How many fighters are left to be modelled that could have significant use in the MA? I can't think of more than a handful:
Yak-3, P-47M, J2M3, Ki.84, Ki.100, G.55, 109K? These could all be done in a single version release, but what could we look forward to after that?
I agree with Beeker, I feel like its getting to be too long a wait between updates.
-
Actually I have to say I totally agree.
The last few updates are taking longer and longer, and have little for the average player.
Sure if your one of the "vocal" tiny minority of early war plane people, things have been great. But if you get only a little flight time a tour in the MA things have been very static lately.
Even the update with the changes to the bombers was a big bust since it made bombers extinct because of the difficulty of doing anything with the new bomb sight, and the still present damage transfer bug.
I'm curious to see just what 1.11 will bring since I thought its major feature was the mission arena (not really for me either) and thats already been canceled.
A redo of the P-51 model? Looks good, but *yawn*. A perk Tiger Tank? Useless when armor is taken out with strafing planes using .50's. A early war Japanese dive bomber? Great for scenarios, but totally useless for the MA.
So just what is 1.11 going to be?
-
I'd like to see an update as much as you guys but at least there are regular large updates. You could fly elsewhere and see the team working on other products other than what you are paying for or fly another and stil lbe waiting for many features promised when it launched.
Bomber simulation in this sim is better than any other out there right now, not perfect but a hell of a lot better and you can hit things with the bombsight it just takes a little practice.
I think HTC are goign the right way with plane additiosn too, the MA has more than enough furball planes and with the mission based arena being worked on with historical planesets being used they need to add these planes. Why give furballers any more choice when all they tend to use is the La7 or Niki anyway.
Perhaps your apathy stems from your mind being on another sim Vermillion

We need an early war area only in the MA arena... carve out the bottom 1/3 of the horrible pizza map and make it for early war planes only with a 50K mountain range seperating it from the late war part... make seperate resets... All of a sudden you will have a choice of 20 or thirty planes to fight against instead of 5 or 8.. updates will be worthwhile in the MA.

I also like the early war rides, and they far out number the premimum rides that are left for the mail arena. There are several different people out there who like different planes and or different vehicles.
My favorite ride is the Hurricane Mk1, I know I am gonna get wacked a lot by LA-7's, Spit IX's and Niki's and I don't care. I enjoy flying the older planes and it is very satisfying when you can take out one of the "premimum" rides with an early war bird.
You also might want to consider that there is a better plane set in AH than in just about any other flight sim out there, or at least the Massive Player ones anyway.
I do agree however that planes lie the Ki-84 need to be in AH, and have no doubt that they eventually will be, but development takes time. I have wanted to fly a Stuka every since I started playing AH a couple years ago, and I am very excited about the new update because I finally get to have it. Guess what, I will most likely get shot down a lot in the Stuka, but that is okay too, it is all about the fun and sheer joy of flying to me. I would also like to see the Brewster Buffalo, IL-4, Commonwealth Boomerang, Z.1007, Ki-43, Fairey Firefly, I-16, D520, PBY Catalina, B24, B25, He111, Do217, P-61 and several other planes as well. All we can do is take it as we can get it and remember that development takes time.

Yup, what the Vermin said :) (been a while!). The Stuka and B5N will be nice for scenarios but fairly useless in the Main. Then again, a lot of AH takes place in scenarios so who knows. Komets won't be touched by those defending HQs because one goonie can rebuild the thing. Tiger tanks were damn good for fixed defense but horrid when on the move cross country. Because the terrain (or maybe the gear box) slows down vehicles so much, travel times aren't low. Add the two together and no one will risk 30-50 perks to drive a 55 ton, 12 mph bomb-magnet. Redoing the P-51 model (hopefully a few others too) is a definite plus, though! Updating the old models to match the newer ones improves detail; always a good thing!
Development time has gone WAY up lately. Which kinda shocked me. Then again I'm one of those old heads who's been around since BETA (off and on anyway). Maybe the days of updates every month or two spoiled us? :D One thing I definitely do miss was the interaction between players and HTC here. Ever since Pyro took that "mystery" vacation things have been real quiet. Hell, they shanghai-ed Skuzzy into making news posts! :p
Still, I gotta repeat what I said a couple years ago. I'll still be around when 1.11 hits the server, and 1.12, and 1.13 as well. AH is always fun, whether it be offline, in H2H, training tin horns or recreating historical battles. There's a spot for everyone's tastes here, well except lazs' anyway ;)

Hi Conegar..
Hey, if you are interested in Hurricanes, get this dandy little biographical paperback,, "FIGHTER PILOT" by Paul Richey.
Memoirs of an RAF Ace,, strictly Hurricanes in France before the Brits got kicked out. First hand descriptions of turnfighting with BF-110's, rearward attacks on HE-111's, JU-88's, etc.
Check Amazon.com it's about $7 US..

This will eventually be the dilemna...........
the MA requires that its rides are moderately competitive or at least usably niche'd.........
as the "still wanted and will actually used list" gets shorter for the MA .....................
then HTC focus on ways of expanding the format in other ways..............we see that already vis a vis stated ambitions but this stuff will swallow up resources once its committed to......
(many of us do not care there is a new TE yet it must have used up considerable resource.......btw I do care there is a new TE)
Looking at the work in progress list (based on the pictures we've been given) the known rides coming are the Me163, Tiger Tank, Kate and recently the Stuka...........
Looking at some of the 1st person and the mission arena ambitions then these are big steps if they are to carry significant impact.........
I would suggest that new AC/GV and game upgrade patches are looked at separately............ I believe we would love a month on month new ride upgrade rather than several clustered together with the big patch......... it makes it feel like stuff is continuously growing to the user.............
The big patches in game play, strat system, mission systems (hard code stuff) would then represent stepping stones in HTC's progress from MPACS to MPTWS and markets anew.......... whilst the general expansion in rides and terrains offer more for the player who just wants more of what he has already........
-
O.k. we got plenty of planes, lets have some new GV's! And how about another boat or 2... and where in my sub? Or how about throwing my bomber AND vehicle perkies into a general pool so I can use them on what ever I want?

I agree. I feel that HTC has taken a step back regarding the average joe. What was that deal with the shutting down the message board before the release of 1.10 (or was it 1.09?)
Sure people were going nuts. They were excited about a new version of their favorite sim being released. They were undoubtly acting stupid, but why shut down the board? Maybe I'm off-base here. But that's how I took it at the time.
Not to be unfair, but look at Il2. They post development updates once a week. Oleg makes regular appearances in the message forum. Now, plane whiners GALORE are all over Oleg. They accuse him of making the Russian planes better than the German planes... etc etc.
It's got to be very stressful.
Generally though, Oleg goes out fighting. If someone insults him, he says so. If they're off base, he says why. Undoubtly, that takes a LOT of time and energy and while I don't think the AH forums need that kind of attention -- they need more than they're getting now. I enjoy seeing posts from the HTC team.
Anyway, I'm waaay off base here. Back to the point:
Early war planes definitely have their place in AH. All I'm asking for is some moderation. If we get a few early war planes, toss in one or two that might change the dynamics of the MA. They don't need to be P-51 killers, just something else to master.
I can take of a large number just off the top of my head. G.55 (oooh that would be sooo nice), Re2005 (I bet data is hard to find on this), LaGGs, Yak-3, 109-G14, P-39s, P-51A (Allison 51 anyone? Probably as a small perk since it lugged 4 hispanos), earlier P-38, P-40N (woo hoo!), P-47M(N?), Ki.84... etc...
There are tons of aircraft you could add to the MA. Any one of those aircraft could be VERY competitive in the MA. Some more than others.

Game play has gotten boring but I believe AH is a game of what you make of it. There are plenty of features I would like to see to enhance game play.
Able to take a destroyer out on its own with/out gunners, depth charges.
Subs with deck guns.
Field ack open at all times to different players with 20 minute pentaly box once your killed at that ack position.
Different types of ack guns on the fields.
more tanks, field units.
Fix the LA7 primary fire/drop bombs at the same time.
I read that everyone wants game play to real as possible...fix game play that stops people making unreal manuavers....
Do everything possible to get the community to grow while I think most of the poeple who play AH are cool I would like to see 5k players online at once...only then will the pizza map be any good.
Since there is no infantry put the bases closer together I find it very boring to fly to a base that takes 10-12 minutes only to die to a better piloit "bet others feel the same way".
-
They shut down the board because a bazillion dweebs kept hitting refreash for news all day long killing peoples ability to download the update once it was made avaliable.
Relax afterall, its just a game.

The deal with that was the amount of traffic on the board was affecting the login server and was causing people to not be able to log into the game....if I recall correctly what HT told me. I also believe that problem has been corrected and the two are no longer on the same box.

Actually Revvin thats not it at all. The only thing over in that other sim that interests me and makes me go "OH WOW" is its "open source" nature. The ability to contribute content to the game, which has gotten me interested in 3D modeling and how to program FM's.
I asked Pyro a very long time ago how I (or small groups of players working together) could contribute to AH in respect to new planes, but he declined the offer and continues to do so.
And the biggest reason that I've taken up 3D modeling as a hobby is the extreme lack of interest in flying the last 6 months or so. Admittedly, I am an ancient old timer who has "seen and done it all". But more frequent updates, and some new planes that would actually be useful in the MA would help quite a bit.
I don't think 1.11 will 'make or break' AH as the thread suggests. But I do agree with the premise that the updates have become less and less frequent, while adding less and less that is interesting to the average player.
-
There will be 1.12 with mission based gameplay. I hope this includes the choice of aircraft, bringing the hangar queens to life.
-
Karnak
The P47M will never be a hangar queen....It will beat the crap out of the KI84 :)
and rightFOOT.....the request for P47M is old :D

You still dont look a day over 13 :P

The P-47M will be a hangar queen because it'll cost 80 bloody perk points to take it for a spin and have a P47M icon over it.
I have no doubt that the P-47M is a great fighter, just as I have no doubt that it'll be a pricey perk plane.
Me262, Tempest Mk V, F4U-4, Spitfire Mk XIV. All great fighters and all hangar queens.

Who's this average joe/player I keep reading in this thread?
Certainly you aren't referring to the average joe/player that spends all of his time online in a quakeball?
Cuz if so... that average joe/player is quite content with the way the game is now.

From flakbait: "AH is always fun, whether it be offline, in H2H, training tin horns or recreating historical battles. There's a spot for everyone's tastes here, ..."
Here, here!! I agree. I love AH (ducking and covering from rotten tomatos). I usually have a blast in the MA. But I can't adequately handle the planes they got now, why do I want more planes I'll be bad at flying?:D
-
I'll take fewer updates over a larger company any day.
-
End user's making FMs....
Submitted too and reviewed by the proper authorities of course, jeezzz....

Umm the F4u4 is not a hanger queen in my book. I just discovered how great this ride actually is. The last 2 days went 42-2 in it nothing wrong with it at all IMO. I will fly it and be happy. I will gather 100-200 kills in it this tour that I will guarantee. With the updates pace slowed to a near crawl at this pace we should only recieve two updates next year and that is including 1.11. Keepp telling ya more watermelon to blow up would make the game better. bridges and stuff we just need more targets.
