So here's my whine. The only reason to have an airforce is to effect the events on the ground. You don’t have an Airforce to gather perk-points. In the tactical sense-AirPower supports the GV's and men on the ground. You need both working together to win tactical victory or the Battle. To win the war…you must effect the strategic landscape as well. In WWII that meant heavy bombers bombing strategic targets. We have all of the components FM's and GV's to make this work…WE NEED THE MA RE-WORKED. GV's should be the only units allowed to conquer and occupy bases. GV's would be murdered without proper aircover…etc.. You get the point…GV's plus airpower wins the bases. Then to win the war. Each country has a set of strategic targets to bomb. If you bomb them-this would effect the availability of a proportional number of both GV's and planes. Kill a certain % of strategic targets AND conquer a certain % of bases …then you win the war. THE END-RESET MAP. The only place for the mission arena would be to apply the above but on a historic plane-vehicle-set and say not to have fluid game play but a series discrete missions-but all to accomplish the same thing as the MA. Two good strong arenas-one Fluid, the other featuring Discrete Missions with Historic plane-sets will balance the numbers nice…we wont need that damn giant pizza map anymore. Finally, ditch the CT and most of the Special Events (they mostly sux) and you got a winner!!!!!!!!!!! AH will reach its potential under this new system.
-
you whine all the time whats new
-
I'd like to reiterate's Wotan's sentiments.
You are a pain in the arse in game, and it appears you are a pain in the arse out of it.
Ditching the special events would lose a significant proportion of AH players - people who long since lost interest in the MA hamster wheel. Moreover, despite your assertion that most special events 'sux', many people enjoy them hugely.
Ironically, your inane channel 1 banter does AH no favours when it comes to new players - and it is they who contribute to AH's success/failure.

Sounds great, 28weeps! Let us know when you've finished writing it.

Get some stones and call Dale with these revelations.

Sweep, your ride is here.
Say bye

The man who a month ago didn't know what a padlock view was, is now experienced enough to declare that AH is a failure?
I agree that something hasn't reached its full potential, and it isn't AH. :D

Hey....flame me and all but they laughed at Columbus. BTW, to you Euros and the rest of you. Our economy is 100% free market. You have a better product-you win-usually at the expense of others. This ain't Europe where fat bureaucracies step in and fund bloated inefficient companies-then Tax the hell out of the winners and re-distribute it all. So the "Darwin" nature of our economy means that you must stay one step ahead of the other animals our they'll eat you. Its hard for you Euro's to step out of the box and be innovative and all……I understand but please keep your angry, petty, mediocre thoughts to yourself. I love the FM's here and think the gamplay needs a little re-work that’s all……also as for channel 1-in my country we have something called "free speech." Buy a book and read about it. You have the squelch command………….

28Sweep pays his $14.95 a month s/he is entitle to their opinion. AH better do something to reach its potential very qucikly on 02/15/03 five more and exciting new MMOLPG will hit the market.
If you want to be a big dog act like a big dog otherwise you will always be picking up the other big dog's droppings!

Sweep you've probably put more people off than any gameplay reason do us all a favour and STFU.

28Sweep - The one and only reason I want a permanent squelch list.

AH is failing? 300+ a night would disagree
-
Who said AH is failing? The numbers online are huge compared to
WB's or AW3... Just because one person is disgruntled the online
flight sim community is falling apart!!
Your just bored sweep take a break and go fly in WW2online and then you will come back with a new appreciation for AH... Enjoy those 5FPS when you get with in 1K of another player! !!

"Hey....flame me and all but they laughed at Columbus."
People still laugh at Columbus. We seem to easily beat good teams on the road like the Islanders, but then we lose at home to crap teams like Nashville. Even with the #1 pick in the NHL draft, we are still struggling to put together 3 good periods of hockey.
Oh, wait. You weren't comparing your revelations on AH with Christopher Columbus' trans-atlantic voyage, were you? :D

Yes, I do live under a rock.

With esitmates of the number of players who I believe will sign up to play, makes that 300 number look competitive:
Star Wars Galxey 500k
Sims Online 1 million
Planetside 300k
EVE 250k
Star Trek 150K
I hope AH does something quick to grow the community this can be a fun game at times.
-
It could be Starwars Galaxies i think. Yes it's a mmorpg (or whatever abbreviation people use), however it's unlikely i'm able to fly my spitfire there.
-
No matter what AH does, I'll be giving Star Wars Galaxies a shot. They surely don't compete in genre, but they do compete for the the Dollars. Some of us have a limited amount of money (and time) we can spend on a monthly subscription, so I SWG knocks my socks off, you may see me turn in my wings for a while.

Just want to point out that this is not quite true. Of course, currently AW doesn't have many players. But before it started its downward spiral in the hands of EA, AW typically had several arenas with a couple hundred players, a bunch of arenas with 50 to 150, and 50 to 100 in full realism.
At the release of AW3 the full real arena was usually full at 250 and there were perhaps a half dozen relaxed realism arenas with 150 to 250 players. (It did decline over the next couple years with no upgrades.)
During the time when AW was provided on AOL there were typically in excess of 2000 players online each night.
Aces High has plenty of growth potential!
(I won't even bother to comment on Sweep's proposal... scenarios rock.)

The current capture the flag system probably isn't the best possible solution for the MA.
Well, that sums up the only point I can agree with 28sweep...
-
Think "muckmaw" said it best its all about the dollars/time you have to play...the closes any of these come to AH is EVE which is space combat sim.
-
When it comes to MMORPG, you've got different camps.
There are those who are rabid WWII Flight sim fans and will not play anything else.
Then you have folks like me, who love aviation, but will try anything when it comes to entertainment. Like there was this time I cut a hole ina cantaloupe and put it......err where was I?
Anyway, I used to play Ultima Online. I could give a rats bellybutton about mideval warfare and all that Harry potter crap, but it was a good time.
So now something new, like Star Wars Galaxies is coming down the pipe. Folks like me will try it out. If it's entertaining, and more fun than anything AH offers, I'll switch. I could afford $15.00 a month times 2, but I don't have the time to get really good at any one game, so I would choose one of the other.
The bottom line is, a game that rests on it's laurels (Especially an MMORPG) eventually gets knocked off it's pedestal.
Now, AH has the best customer support in the business. The game is getting a little old. The MA hamster wheel needs some refinement. AH needs something to add spice back into the game before games like SWG come out.
The hard core WWII gamers will always be loyal to AH. But how many people are there in this niche market and can AH survive on their subsciptions alone.
But Dale knows his business. He knows what he's doing. I'm sure he has something up his sleeve to stay competitive.
-
I wasn't aware we were failing. Thanks for letting me know I'm a failure. Without your insight, I would have never known the truth.
-
Don't think anyone is saying anyone is a failure Mr. Fly just that as paying customers we would like to be heard.
Only problem I see with SWG is if you make a mistake with your player you can never become a jedi.
Fly I think I may be your father....

Sneaky Bastages!:D
In all seriousness, though, AH is still the only game in town for me. When SWG comes out, I'll try it. If it's great, I'll switch and check AH to see if it's worth switching back.
If on the other hand, AH is still the better play for my money, I'll stay here. Is this a question of loyalty or a question of consumerism?
As it stands right now, if they fix the STrat, and the mission arena is all I hope it will be, my $15.00 will be going to HTC for a long time to come.
If not, well, one subscription won't kill them.

NNTP? Do you mean Net News Transfer Protocol? I don't get your point.

28Sweep - I empathise with you. I think you made some good points, and I'm not afraid to stick my neck out to say so. Perhaps the word "failing" in the title was an unfortunate choice of word. Clearly AH is succeeding as a commercial venture, and is well rounded as an expertly developed product, with excellent customer support.
But I know exactly what you mean. In AH we have all those strategic targets etc., and if they weren't meant to be used they would not be there. But do as you have done, and suggest that the air force be deployed to defend GVs etc., and you will quickly be hearing the whines of the "Waaahhhhh, it's my $14.95 a month" brigade. And they are many. I've personally given up trying to make these suggestions, because some people don't understand the difference between someone making a suggestion, and someone dictating how others should play AH.
The game is a commercial success for the reasons I gave above. But the flight sim business is a competitive arena, and Sim salesmen can't charge an hourly fee for play as once they did. AH has always been flat rate, but for that to succeed HTC needs to attract players en masse. And it has to be said that not all have an interest in WW2. Indeed, as --ik-- once said: "you guys would welcome an RPS if you had half an interest in WW2". Just the other day, the enemy was trying to sneak a FLAK to destroy a Bish base. I was up in a F4U-1D with rockets, and could have killed it with four rockets - I can kill a PNZR with that. But what happened? Someone else upped a LANC trio, and dropped 42x1000 bombs to kill that one FLAK. Hmm, not realistic, and hardly a challenge. Talk about overkill.
The point I'm trying to make is that we have ended up with a brilliant sim, but the gameplay is sometimes akin to Quake or Doom, and rather than being a WW2 sim sometimes resembles a "shoot 'em up" arcade game, with a WW2 veneer. The reason I welcome the pizza map is because the cherry picking or mass suicide jabo tactics are much more difficult to deploy. One has to think and to plan. And that is why it draws so many condemnatory posts.
-
Look-I use words like failure as hyperbole. Nobody wants HT to fail....especially me...I live for this game-man. I've tried everything else: Il2, WB's etc...and I always come back to AH because of the FM's. With that said-I am sick of the gangbang hamsterwheel that is the MA. With a few tweaks in gameplay I think the MA could be much, much better. The CT suxs..nobody wants to say it but its a glorfied deuling arena because of the numbers. The SA's I've flow in where POORLY organized clusterF's. If nobody steps outside of the box and voices thier opinion then HT will think all is well. All is 90% well....the MA suxs thats all...........Oh well.........

The Guardian
England and Wales have one of the worst crime records in the industrialised world - even worse than America - according to the findings of an official survey published yesterday which compares the experience of victims across 17 countries.
The study, coordinated by the Dutch ministry of justice, shows England and Wales at the top of the world league with Australia as the countries where you are most likely to become a victim of crime. These countries face an annual rate of 58 crimes for every 100 inhabitants.
The findings, based on interviews with 35,000 people about their experience of crime across the 17 countries, were carried out last year. They are a blow to Labour's record and underline the challenge facing Tony Blair when he marks the launch of Labour's 10-year anti-crime plan next Monday by becoming the first serving prime minister to visit a prison.
The 2000 International Crime Victimisation survey shows that the falls in crime recorded since the mid-1990s in England and Wales are part of a general pattern of falling crime across the industrialised world but, unlike America, crime levels in England and Wales are still higher than they were at the end of the 1980s. When the survey was last carried out in 1996, England and Wales also topped the league table with 61 offences per 100 inhabitants.
The survey does show, however, that Britain has the best services when it comes to looking after the victims of crime, but it also shows we have a tougher approach to punishing criminals. Asked what should be done with a burglar convicted of stealing a colour television for a second time, more than 50% in England and Wales said he or she should be sent to prison for two years. Only 7% in Spain and 12% in France thought he or she should be jailed at all.
People were asked whether they had been victims of a range of 11 different offences in the previous 12 months, including violent and sexual assault, car crime, burglary and consumer fraud.
The survey also shows that Scotland, with 43 offences per 100 inhabitants, ranks joint fifth alongside America in the international crime league behind England, Australia, the Netherlands and Sweden. Northern Ireland has the second best crime record of the countries surveyed, with 24 offences per 100 inhabitants - the same rate as Switzerland and only just above Japan where the biggest crime problem is bicycle thefts. The detailed findings of the ICVS survey showthat England and Wales are top of the international league for car thefts with 2.6% of all car owners suffering the loss of their vehicle in the previous 12 months. In other sorts of car crime, England was second only to Poland.
Australia and then England and Wales had the highest burglary rates and rates for violent crimes such as robbery, assault and sexual assault "
the result of the backward thinking of the home office is the brutalizing of its helpless citizens... helpless to defend themselves against the strong and the vicious... a trajic example of "form over substance"... "let them eat cake" The lawless run england... In America... 3,000,000 such crimes are prevented by firearms each year... citizens have freedom and dignity one good thing about englands crime rate.... they have, obviously by necessity, learned to care for the traumatized, humiliated and injured victims...guess that's something
-
The reason I welcome the pizza map is because the cherry picking or mass suicide jabo tactics are much more difficult to deploy. One has to think and to plan. And that is why it draws so many condemnatory posts.
Really? the pizza map encourages it. It's easy to launch against an undefended field. We flew a mission on squad night and asked the Rooks to come and get us when we got bored on our way 6 sectors over enemy airspace. Pizza map requires no planning as you could capture a field with two pilots if you should so wish, where's the fun in that? no-one to contest you?

beetle that because of the players.... even in an rps nothing stops bomber dweeebs from dive bombing flak panzers.........
look at tonnage on target crap over at wb3.
its all the same ..........
il2 has some hugest dweeb clans ever seen on earth.........despite all its "realism"........
I am no fan boi if something better comes along I, like lots of folks, will go there.
Even if this 28sweep guy had good ideas I wouldnt care. Every time I log on I gotta re squelch him because hes always running his mouth about something. People arent "flaming" this guy because he critices AH. They doing because hes a loud mouth. By just being in AH he harms it more then any of his suggestions can help.
I had been vocal in other situations where guys jump all over some one about whining. This is truly a different case. This guy never stops going on and on not just whining but with name calling and insults.
For the 1st time ever I will quote Dowding
You are a pain in the arse in game, and it appears you are a pain in the arse out of it.
Ditching the special events would lose a significant proportion of AH players - people who long since lost interest in the MA hamster wheel. Moreover, despite your assertion that most special events 'sux', many people enjoy them hugely.

Wotan...your out of line budd...ya I got a loud mouth but I never flame anybody that didn't start it. Where I come from-trash talking is part of the game. I never get personal unless some dork decides to take shots at me. As far as being good for the game-I always wear the AH badge..at airshows, at work-I am personaly responsible for getting 5 people into this game-not two week wonders but guys on thier 2nd year. Don't tell me Im bad for the game. I got a loud mouth but I never get rude unless you asked for it.......

What is 28Sweeps callsign? I've never seen him say a word on text. He must be bish or rook, because I keep channel 1 squelched.
I actually tried to unsquelch it last week. I could stand the mindless blather for all of 7 minutes. (Literally, I clocked it.)
Someone was going on and on about the state of Welfare in America.

Yeah. Trash-talking. Makes you look like a real tough guy. In a computer game. Behind a computer screen. lol!
Has the unpleasant side effect of making channel 1 a 'must-squelch' every single time. Thanks, fella.
Wotan - you've quoted me before. It's just agreeing with the quote which has never happened.
-
28sweep
I dont wanna argue with you and I dont know you. All I know is that .squelch 28sweep has become a regular thing for me and from what I hear I am not alone. I am not one to call some out like this and I have defended folks from the whine police and the channel 1 censors. But over the past couple of weeks of "Jesus is an American" and the other "trash talking" it has become a bit much.
If like you say you just want ah to be better game then maybe tone it back some but from what I have experienced I just gotta call like I see it. I dont think I am alone in my observation.
Wotan - you've quoted me before. It's just agreeing with the quote which has never happened.
Yup, must be why I am confused now.........
-
Revvin- By thinking and planning I had two things in mind.
- The pizza map fields are too far apart for cherry picking to be viable, and many are at altitudes that would have the LA7s wheezing.
- You can't just go and grab one of the outer crust vehicle fields - well, not always. Sometimes you need to work as a team - one person fly jabo, another provide cover/diversion, and another to fly a goon.
Lazs - Me? wrong? Which part of my sig did you not agree with this time?
-
all of it? ;]
-
A quick side-note about Laz's comment about Beet1e being wrong...
Being a victim of crime is not the same as being a victim of murder. Two very different things.
In fact, your article only proves that Beet1e is right. If there are really so many crimes, but so few murders... and if in America, there is so little crime but so many murders... then voila, Beet1e is right and guns should be banned.
That was easy. I hope your next try is better, Lazs ;).
-
It's called sarcasm, people. And we listen to our customers quite a bit. More than you realize.
And users get tired of it. Quite a bit. More than YOU realize.
(other than that, this thread is silly)
mullah
-
"Jesus is American" is funny...lol I say things like: "I'm going to change the tires on my house etc"..just to ham it up a bit while climbing to altitude...thats my personality...just talking smak and having fun...never getting too nasty or foul unless I am attacked. Last time I checked this is a game right. Maybe your just a bit to serious...................
-
I don't agree on those points Beet1e, I feel it's quite easy to cherry pick a target, partly due to the size and partly because the fields are not all that apart from each other, it was mentioned on our squad night that as a whole we felt the map was too cluttered with fields. The outer crust can be fun but again catch them on the hop and before ya know it you've eaten halfway round the crust before a defense can be put up, even more so with GV spawn points so close to opposing fields.
-
God I wish the banhammer would fall on this thread.

Hey..I'm just one dude...the CT is great..on paper anyway. The terrain and skins are wonderful but without the numbers its like 2 vs 1 and boring. I've flown in 3 SA's and they were totaly disorganized...my opinion only dude...don't get bent out of shape.
-
Is there such a thing as a polite loudmouth?
bowser
-
The question still stands....what is an SA?
If you are referring to Snapshots then yes they may have seemed disorganized, but from what I understand, that is due in part to the CMs not being able to find people willing to step up and CO for the nite. If you are so concerned about them being disorganized then step up and volunteer. Get there early, find out what the mission is and take the reins.
Until you at least do that, then all you are doing is pissing in the wind in my opinion.
-
There is one thing that would make AH a better game.
If we could mute all the loudmouths like Sweep who go fishing for attention every time they log on by handing out insults and constantly talkin toejam about just about everything. I play a every day as do many and think this is the best game on the net. If only we could weed out the few idiots who try there best to test everyones paitence the MA would be a better place. I believe sometimes censorship can be a good thing
