I want a Baretta 92FS INOX... I really love the feel and balance of the 92s and I find them very accurate, not to mention they look cool :)

Very nice Springfield.

I take it since you are in CA you don't have a CCW permit, which is a shame, as that is perfect carry gun.

Hope it shoots well for you.

(http://www3.telus.net/public/gcorn1/Nov28_01.JPG)

This was my X-mas present to myself, as my wife is from eastern Canada where guns are "bad", so she buys me sox instead.

Edit> Hey Grun, we have a few of those Beretta's as rental guns at my store, they typically break down and need to be sent back to the manufacturer before they hit 10,000 rounds.  I'm not sure what the trouble is with them, but we are shooting pretty light loads, so it shouldn't be because we are punishing them.  In contrast, we have 5 Kimber .45's that all have 30,000 plus rounds through them of factory FMJ ammo, and they have only needed minor attention at worst.  It's a shame too, as no other pistol fits my hand or is nearly as comfortable as the Berettas.

 It shot really well for me last night, but the last 30 rounds or so it was not locking back on an empty mag and stove piped the last round a good 30% of the time.

I think it was cause it was way to oily, gun oil was running out of the back from the slide rails.

I am pretty sure when I clean it and oil/grease it properly it will be really good.

It shot as good as my sig when I was concentrating.

and yeah no CCW.

But I am hoping to move to WA in the next 5 years or so! :)

Is that an Ar-18? SAR-180? why is it blue?

Here in Fort Worth, almost everyone who can own a gun, does own one. The most popular CW are little guns like that one. While they make great CW, it wouldn't stand up to what some Texans have as their CW. Some farmers have .44 Magnums in their glove compartment, and I've seen one instance of a sawed-off shotgun being used.

Everything's bigger in Texas, and that includes the firearms. I wouldn't be caught dead with a little gun like that if I had to be involved in a situation I'd have to use it. .45 ACP maybe, but I'd rather have a Beretta or a Sig.

Just IMO...:D
Title: Sigs rock.
Post by: GtoRA2 on December 02, 2002, 12:06:26 PM
I have a Sig 220 and in a way it has spoiled me for other guns.

It is a rock, and never fails.

The only trouble I had was when the mag springs wore out, after having them fully loaded for 3 years.

I had a colt mage go bad in 3 months.

This is mostly a fun gun, but if I do ever get a CCW the Sig is a little big, so I would prolly carry this one, or maybe spring for a sig 228, or the new smaller 220?

I will explain.

The magazine( the part that holds the cartridges) holds six rounds.

The guns total capacity is 7, you can load one in the chamber.

Standard gun stuff.

:D

The gun will not make me happy, my life in general does that! This just adds some fun.

LOL!  Yes, I know about "one in the spout", as Lazs puts it.

GTO, you mentioned something that I've been meaning to ask, but did not know enough about guns to phrase the Q.

I have been trying to figure that out - seen it in movies etc, which is the only place I ever see a gun out of its holster. What is happening when the mag is empty? Does that action simply open the weapon so that the empty mag can be removed and replaced?  I would have thought that if you were in close quarters with a threat that locking back on empty mag would give your foe a clear signal that you're out of ammo. Can you comment on this?

What happens is:

The magazine has a tab on the follower( the thing that pushes the rounds up) on the last round that tab pushes the slide stop up and locks back the slide.

Well thats the way it is on every auto I have ever fired.

and yeah it could be a bad thing, if the bad guy sees it, but he should be on the ground bleeding if you just went through 7 rounds.

The up side for it is, you drop the mag and load a new one all you have to do is hit the slide release or pull the slide back a touch and the pistol is ready to go again. This is faster then having to jack the slide back again.

I prefer it like it is.

Some rifles like the M-16 have a bolt locking feature that works much the same. So you can slap in a new mag and hit the latch and be ready to fire again.

The AK does not, lol so you have to pull the charging handle all the way back again after a mag change. (always thought that sucked) :)

Gtora, that is a Sig 550 rifle, it's blue because it is used for action shooting, and people like to do stupid stuff like that to their rifles/pistols (I'm the 2nd owner).

As for your problem, ya for certain make sure there is just a light, almost imperceptible layer of lubricant on all the surfaces and moving parts.  If you still have trouble, switch ammo and try that.  If that doesn't have an effect, you'll likely need a new mainspring.

When a semi auto is not locking back on the last round, it is usually due to a magazine/slide release mating issue, OR in your case, when you are having stovepipe problems in addition to lockback trouble, it can also be ammo/spring related.

gto... nice pistola.. I am growing fond of .45 again... My old 1935 vintage 1911 colt is dependable in the extreme... close range it is confidence inspiring... Still... Us old farts just can't shake the wheel gun habit... my cut down (4" despured) ruger redhawk in .44 is hard to ignore.   Anything you can't take care of with 6 rounds from that thing you shoulda probly brought something in full auto... preferably belt fed.

England and Wales have one of the worst crime records in the industrialised world - even worse than America - according to the findings of an official survey published yesterday which compares the experience of victims across 17 countries.
The study, coordinated by the Dutch ministry of justice, shows England and Wales at the top of the world league with Australia as the countries where you are most likely to become a victim of crime. These countries face an annual rate of 58 crimes for every 100 inhabitants.

The findings, based on interviews with 35,000 people about their experience of crime across the 17 countries, were carried out last year. They are a blow to Labour's record and underline the challenge facing Tony Blair when he marks the launch of Labour's 10-year anti-crime plan next Monday by becoming the first serving prime minister to visit a prison.

The 2000 International Crime Victimisation survey shows that the falls in crime recorded since the mid-1990s in England and Wales are part of a general pattern of falling crime across the industrialised world but, unlike America, crime levels in England and Wales are still higher than they were at the end of the 1980s. When the survey was last carried out in 1996, England and Wales also topped the league table with 61 offences per 100 inhabitants.

The survey does show, however, that Britain has the best services when it comes to looking after the victims of crime, but it also shows we have a tougher approach to punishing criminals. Asked what should be done with a burglar convicted of stealing a colour television for a second time, more than 50% in England and Wales said he or she should be sent to prison for two years. Only 7% in Spain and 12% in France thought he or she should be jailed at all.

People were asked whether they had been victims of a range of 11 different offences in the previous 12 months, including violent and sexual assault, car crime, burglary and consumer fraud.

The survey also shows that Scotland, with 43 offences per 100 inhabitants, ranks joint fifth alongside America in the international crime league behind England, Australia, the Netherlands and Sweden. Northern Ireland has the second best crime record of the countries surveyed, with 24 offences per 100 inhabitants - the same rate as Switzerland and only just above Japan where the biggest crime problem is bicycle thefts. The detailed findings of the ICVS survey showthat England and Wales are top of the international league for car thefts with 2.6% of all car owners suffering the loss of their vehicle in the previous 12 months. In other sorts of car crime, England was second only to Poland.

Australia and then England and Wales had the highest burglary rates and rates for violent crimes such as robbery, assault and sexual assault "

the result of the backward thinking of the home office is the brutalizing of its helpless citizens... helpless to defend themselves against the strong and the vicious... a trajic example of "form over substance"... "let them eat cake" The lawless run england... In America... 3,000,000 such crimes are prevented by firearms each year... citizens have freedom and dignity one good thing about englands crime rate.... they have, obviously by necessity, learned to care for the traumatized, humiliated and injured victims...guess that's something

I think I heard about some reliabilty problems with the Berettas but since I would only use it for pleasure shooting I find the unbelivably good feel and balance of the gun compared to anything else I have fired to more then make up for it. They just balance perfectly in my hand and feel almost weightless, much better than a 1911 type and way way better than those brick Glocks, but I did fire some nice S&W guns which felt quite good in my hand and were also accurate.

As a side note the last time I want shooting at a local place the Barettas were unavailable because they all broke down.. :D

I never liked the Barrette. Shot it while back and just didnt like it. I honestly like the GLOKs most but fraid to admit it (so what its plastic). Never fired a SIG (well a 38 long time ago, was ok). The SIG 9mm P series looks like a fine line of guns to me. 45s are ok for me, not personal choice though. BrenTen aayone? JK.

That V10 looks nice.

Gman, at first thot your gun looked alot like an HK.

I dont own any guns and dont plan to. Id just rent them at the range. Whats stove piping, some part got too HOT?

Airsoft arent fun for me cas they dont make BANG! sounds :)

We bought a 92FS for my wife a few years ago. We both had jamming and stove-pipe problems with it. She doesn't like to shoot it any longer. I need to take it to a gunsmith and see if they can correct the problems.

For reliable auto's, I had a Ruger P-85 9mm that spit out anything I put in it. Wish I wouldn't have sold it. Of course I'm very happy with my Russian Makarov 9x18mm. Fun, cheap lil' pistol that never jams.

The one good thing about an SA-80 was the red dot SuSat scope.

Few Points:

As for carrying that thing, you'd better think twice.  Anti-Gun prosecutors froth at the mouth in shootings with SINGLE-ACTION guns, even, if you are in the right.

Beretta, they stovepipe more than any pistol I have ever fired, I dislike them.   I don't understand why people will spend there outrageous prices for junk, IMO.

I need to upgrade my H&K USP .45acp and add MMC Night-Sights.  This, is a weapon.

Oh yeah, GTO, watch that spring on that, seen many a guys go t clean it and spend 1/2 hour trying to find it.

Nice "Commander Style" Springfield.  Seriously though, read up on any "Carry Issues".  If you can carry in Cali, look at a Double action instead.

Thanks for the advice, I think if I ever do get a CCW, I will end up packing a Sig, my 220 has never failed me and I have had it for 10 years and fired more rounds through it then I can count!

This is mostly a fun gun, single action autos take allot of discipline to carry, and I am not all the comfortable with cocked and locked carry.

Funny story, so I am like 11, and my dad is going to let me clean his 1911. The gun was custom made by a local smith. I still have it.  SO I go to take out the spring plug, and BOING! it shoots across the room and I spent the next two hours searching. lol.
Never happened again.

The gun I really want is a H&K P7M8 but I just can not justify the 1200 to 1400 bucks on a gun. lol.

Grunherz,
I've put a lot of rounds through the M92 (1000 rds just last wednsday), the problem with the M92 Berretta (other than the price) is that the locking block often cracks around 7500 - 10,000 rounds (less with hot loads). It's easy to replace though. As far as accuracy, it's an unmodified pistol - if you want accuracy get a rifle:) Really cracks me up when I see guys with a scope and even a buttstock sometimes on a pistol! - why not just get a rifle?

By the way GtoRA2, I like that pistol:)

Wow.. talk about a day late and a dollar short.  I have a friend that just sold his for $300 in excellent condition.  I fired it quite a bit, but didn't like it as much as my Berretta S&W40.

And nice pistol GTA.  I think a government model .45 will be my next addition.  Man.. I've fired a few thousand rounds through those.  That and the addition of an M1 would probably round out my collection.

BTW... I've never had a problem with stovepiping on my Berretta .40.  But I've only fired about 3000 rounds through it... mostly reloads.

The great irony... I've personally had more experience with stovepiping on .45s (colt match government model) than any other gun.  I've also had a problem with it on my 1935 FB Radom (hi-power knock off from ww2)... but that gun was made by people that weren't exactly thrilled at the notion of making weapons for the Germans.

Heh I have no intention of sniping with a handgun. To me the accuracy comes from being comfortable with the gun in my hand. For example I am terrible with Glocks because they are very uncomfortable and akward to hold for me, just basic stuff like that. :D

Do you have small hands Grunherz?  The Glock is one of the best "fitting" guns I've ever fired, but I have big hands.  I find the standard grip'd Colt .45's to be the worst because they are so narrow... and the hammer had a tendancy to pinch the flesh between the thumb and forefinger.

The only thing I don't like about the Glocks is the safety being built into the trigger.  That just seems fundamentally wrong for something with such a short trigger pull.  Its the absolute only reason I don't own one.

 I bought one a few years back at a small local gun shop. it is a tad beat up but it shoots pretty good, under 4 inches at 100 yards.

One of the best revolvers I ever fired, considering it's price, was a Taurus Model 431 in .44 Special.  It had a three inch barrel and wood grips.  With typical, low-to-moderate velocity factory loads it was perfectly comfortable to shoot, even for someone like me, who is not a beefy or muscled up.  That Taurus was a comfortable alternative to similar revolvers chambered in .44 magnum.

5.  The Report of the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, Ninety-Seventh Congress, 1982, states: "When [our ancestors] sought to record forever a guarantee of their rights, they devoted one full amendment out of ten to nothing but the protection of their right to keep and bear arms against government interference";

6.  On May 17, 2001, the Attorney General of the United States of America stated his legal opinion that "the text and the original intent of the Second Amendment clearly protect the right of individuals to keep and bear firearms";

7.  Recent California edicts ban the purchase, ownership, or sale of firearms specifically recognized as protected weapons in U.S. vs. Miller, and require registration of similar firearms, in direct violation of the U.S. Constitution, and such registration has resulted in forceful harassment of gun owners and confiscation of firearms;

8.  Both houses of the California legislature are, even now, enacting further unconstitutional edicts that demand the unlawful registration of additional firearms;

9.  California edicts criminalize the activities of citizens exercising their Constitutional right and duty to train to become a "well regulated militia", in direct violation of the clear wording and intent of the Second Amendment;

10.  Relief from this denial of our Constitutional rights cannot be obtained through either house of the California Legislature, majorities of which continue to issue further citizen disarmament edicts in conflict with and repugnant to the spirit and intent of the Second Amendment;

11.  Relief from this denial of our Constitutional rights cannot be obtained through the California government's executive branch, which is headed by Governor Gray Davis, who on July 3, 2001 – the very day before our Independence Day anniversary – stated through his attorney general, Bill Lockyer, in the case of Donald M. Bird vs. Gray Davis et al that:

"[There is] no legally recognized right to bear arms under the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution…" and

"...the [U.S.] Constitution does not provide a private right to bear arms..." and

"…the Second Amendment does not protect the possession of a weapon by a private citizen";

12.  Relief from this denial of our Constitutional rights cannot be obtained through the California government's judicial branch, which  ruled in Peter Alan Kasler vs. Bill Lockyer, that California's constitution does not guarantee an individual right to keep and bear arms;

13.  Relief from this denial of our Constitutional rights cannot be obtained from the federal courts in California because the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in Hickman vs. Block that "states alone stand in the position to show legal injury when this right is infringed";

judicial nullification, and whereas the U.S. Supreme Court majority opinion in Chambers
vs. Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company declared "The right to sue and defend in the courts is the alternative of force. In an organized society, it is the right conservative of all other rights, and lies at the foundation of orderly government" ;

15.  Government officials are clearly acting collectively and individually in violation of their oaths of office to uphold and defend the whole Constitution of the United States, including the Second Amendment, and are likewise acting collectively and purposefully to deny Second Amendment rights to the citizens of California;

16.  We find ourselves repeating our grievances, as did America's Founding Fathers, who said in the Declaration of Independence "In every stage of these Oppressions we have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble Terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated Injury";

17.  Being peaceable citizens, we seek to resolve these matters in a lawful manner by calling for enforcement of the supreme law of the land;

18.  A basic, protected right is being blatantly and severely infringed upon by unconstitutional edicts bearing the name and form of law, that are oppressively enforced by the executive and judicial authorities of this state;

19.  These fundamental rights are also being expressly repudiated by the governor of California in a manner that clearly and directly defies the intentions and wisdom of Americans who fought and died to secure this right and to guarantee it thereafter;

20.  The Fourteenth Amendment guarantees to the people of each state the full benefit of all rights recognized under the U.S. Constitution, and Americans living in the state of California are being subjected to gross infringements of their Second Amendment rights and therefore are being treated unequally under the law;

21.  California's prohibition of commerce in selected firearms, when in fact such commerce violates no federal laws, is a usurpation of the power to regulate interstate commerce specifically delegated to Congress alone;

22.  These oppressive edicts promote governmental disrespect for all Constitutionally protected rights, and disrespect for the law in general, and are effectively disarming and
thus endangering the lives and liberties of American citizens;

3.
Petition for Enforcement of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States
23.  Allowing any state to abrogate the natural and/or civil rights of its citizens is repugnant to all American society and is forbidden by our Constitution; because California's cultural and political influence on the United States is especially powerful, it is the duty of the federal government -- indeed of all Americans -- to take action to compel the state of California to immediately cease its tyrannical abuse of these rights;

24.  President George W. Bush stated on September 20, 2001: “I ask you to uphold the values of America, and remember why so many have come here. We are in a fight for our principles, and our first responsibility is to live by them.”; therefore upholding the most fundamental of our principles, those outlined in our Bill of Rights, is a responsibility that must not be ignored or set aside for political reasons or for the sake of expediency.

WE THE UNDERSIGNED AMERICANS do therefore petition John Ashcroft, Attorney General of the United States, to come to the immediate aid of American citizens residing in the state of California in order to restore to them the civil and human rights protected by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution;

And to use any and all powers at his disposal to redress the above-mentioned grievances by enforcing the Constitution of the United States, and to take any necessary action against the state of California and its officials to immediately restore the free exercise of the individual right to keep and bear arms in California and across the United States;

And to enjoin the governor of California, its attorney general, its agents, and all of this state's local police officials and officers, from enforcing any edicts associated with or which could further abet, perpetuate and escalate the above-mentioned grievances;

And to take immediate legal action against the governor, the attorney general, and any other public servants found in complicity with the aforementioned infringements, for criminal conspiracy to deprive American citizens of their Constitutionally protected individual right to keep and bear arms.

I have a SiG P228, which is a medium frame 9mm (13 shots) with a set of Hogue grips.  Easily the best pistol I have ever owned (or shot for that matter).  A little pricey, but well worth it.

I also have a Ruger P-85 9mm in Stainless (15+1).  Great gun for the money, and its very very reliable.  Its just a big pistol and uncomfortable if you have small hands.

My most recent acquisition is a revolver (my first).  A Taurus model 650 CIA in stainless.  Its a small frame 5 shot, .357 magnum, double action only/covered hammer, and comes from the factory with the Hogue grips.  It only weighs like 16 oz.  Great little concealed carry or backup gun.  Very friendly/comfortable for people with small hands.  With .38's in it, the recoil is not too bad.  But load it up with full .357 magnum rounds, its a total beast.  Not uncontrollable, but definitely painful.  After putting 1.5 boxs of ammo thru it on the first day out, I came home literally with a bruised hand.  And thats with a set of great grips on it.

I'm like Grunherz, I have never like Glocks very well.  They just feel weird in my hands (and I have big hands) and I never can shoot them very well, though I understand thats not the case with most people.

If any of you guys have experience with surplus CETME, FN-FAL's or HK G3's, please respond in my other thread plz.  :)

saburo... by "accurate" what do you mean?   at 25 yards will it shoot close to a 44 wheelgun?   50 yards?   I like sig stuff.. it seems cool but I allways was a wheelgun guyu for a lot of reasons... don't leave brass all over... eaisier to reload for... more powerful and.... I have allways been able to outshoot autos at longer ranges..  I like to plink.

krazyhorse... how do you like the titanium gun?  shoot many heavy full power loads through it?   seems like an excellent weel gun for carry.. I would despur it.    .357 is still the 1 shot stop champ in police studies.   Even cut down considerably... my ruger redhawk is large and heavy for carry but.... it shoots sweet.

Dune, have you seen the new .375 Ultra Mag? It will make even your rifle look like a wussy ;)

Laz, my taurus is very similar to krazyhorses.  His is the medium frame 7 shot in Titanium, where mine is the 5 shot in stainless on a even smaller frame, but otherwise the same exact gun. Mine also has the covered hammer.  But its a great little lightweight gun that shoots great.  But recoil is considerable with the .357's (not too bad with .38's) and unpleasent to shoot too many rounds.  However, it is controllable, and under a real life situation you wouldn't mind the bruised hand.  I shot my buddies gun which is identical to Krazy's and its a little better since its larger, but I don't think I would get the titanium 5 shot since its even lighter than my stainless. excellent guns.

thanks verm... I am not too recoil conscious.   I really think the titanium 7 shot is a great concept.   .357 is a workhorse and still can't be beat.... and you don't leave all that incriminating brass around.

Nice gun!

 How long have you had yours? I notice it has the old stile hammer.

My P220 was one of the first few of the newer style 220s, where the hammer looks the sames as the 226, and there where minor changes to the trigger mechinism so it can be made DAO.

Laz,
 I have seen 220s teted in gun mags, and they do 2 to 2 1/2 inches at 25 yards from a ransom rest.  It is not really fair to compare a .45 to a .44 mag though. I bet you 44 still groups pretty well at 100 yards lol. I doubt most people could hit a 100 yard target with a .45

The sig220 I bought is the finest handgun I have ever shot.  (I have only fired a few revolvers though.)

The P7m8 i shot was damn close though.

Any of you guys charcoal burners ??

Most of my shooting is blackpowder pistols. Main stay is a Walker 44 ( repo of course ).

Rifle shooting a dropblock 45/70.

Nothin more fun than playing with crisco.

Have a uberti 45 peacemaker for plinking cans. Plinkin cans a whole lot more fun than shootin paper.

Have an 09 Colt 45 peace maker and a matched set of Colt Navy 36's..

But those three reside in the case.

Shot charcoal all my life, shot out a Colt repo army and a Remington repo army in the process.

Love the smell of boiling out those suckers after a day of shooting :D

laz, i actually like it very much, generally for practice i will use the 38 loads(cheaper to shoot)however i like shooting a box of 357's thru her ever now and then, the top is ported  so the recoil isn't all that bad, it's really a matter of getting use to it, practice loads for 357 _125 gr.  My primary load is 145 gr.silver tip i will shoot them for practice   but damnit they are expensive ,it has a large frame so it does suit my hand well, love the grips as well, it is also very accurate for a 2 inch barrel

GtoRA2,
This current model I've had for years.
Out of all the handguns I've shot, this is the most accurate except for my friend's much more expensive Les Bauer (sp) 1911 mod.
First P220 (euro style- mid '80s) I owned developed a hairline crack on the slide after about 75,000 rnds (never seen that happen to any SigSauer ever- guess I was the unlucky one.) Sent it back to the manufacturer and they sent me another one for free :) . I added the Barstow stainless comp barrel later on.

krazy... I reload so that isn't a problem... A box of 44's cost me about 4 bucks  bout the same for 357 maybe a few cents less.  I use sivertips in both the 44 and the walther ppk for "just in case" loads..  don't shoot more than a box of em a year tho.

gto... even the 4" 44 will stay on the paper at 100 yards..  hitting a five gallon bucket at 200 is no big deal... A 45 is way out of it's league after about 50 yards for most people and guns.

I just thought I'd post some pics of a couple of mine  :)

(http://www.hunting-pictures.com/members/dune/colt.8.jpg)

The right is a Series 70 Gov't Model that has had slide and trigger work done to it by Hoag.  It is my baby.  Her name is Betty.  :D  The other is a Model 66 S&W .357.

(http://www.hunting-pictures.com/members/dune/DCP_0022.jpg)

Here is another one I'm real proud of.  It's a Winchester Model 97 12ga. "Trench Gun".  It has the US Armory engravings on both sides.

(http://www.hunting-pictures.com/members/dune/DCP_0021.jpg)

And this may be (except my .45) my favorite of all the guns I own.  My father bought this Belgien/FN-made Browning Superposed Lightening 20ga. in 1965.  He took it on almost every opening day of dove season for 20 years.  Two years ago he up and decided to give it to me (I'd sold my Ruger O/U when I went to law school).  I've had it completely reblued and the wood redone.  It is absolutely flawless.

LOL dune... I have a winchester just like the riot gun but with 28" barrel... I am getting an old worn out one chopped down.

I also have a 1911 of around 1930 vintage... A cool thing is this clip that goes under the right grip and a spring steel clip runs along the slide so that you can hook it on your pants or belt under your clothes.  No holster.  Like the despured smith.
