I don't own any real estate.  Maybe if they stopped taking 40% of my paycheck I could afford it.

It's a rough estimate, including the sales tax robbery.
I've never actually calculated the exact percentage, because it would make me cry.

Escrow for the house, I don't worry about it.

In case you haven't been reading the threads on this BBS, we've been squeaking about high taxes (well, alot of us anyway)  By the time you figure in all your taxes (including sales tax, vehicle tax, etc. ) you pay roughly 52% of your income in taxes.  June 17th is the date that I begin paying myself instead of Uncle Sam (From Jan. to June all the money I earn is taken from me but spread out over 12 months)

Be fair, Rip.

Uncle Sam doesn't get it all.

The Governor gets his slice.

The Mayor often gets his slice.

Social Security, which somehow isn't Uncle Sam  gets a slice.

On and on.

Lots of hands out, eh?

I'd be interested to know how much I paid in tax. But I'd need receipts of all my expenditure, which simply don't exist. I should think our tax is higher; free healthcare, heavily subsidized university and college system, exorbitant petrol costs.

My income tax is 22%, that I do know. I suppose Value added tax (VAT) at 17.5% would be added to 95% of my disposable income - I don't save much at the moment. So it probably is around 40%.

The only thing I know about the UK tax system is that entertainers like Elton John, Beatles came over here for a lower tax, did they not?

The tax system was set-up so we could offload people like Elton John and George Michael. Oh, and the Bee-Gees. And Hugh Grant. Hey its working quite well...

...however the Beatles were a mis-calculation that we have always regretted.

I think if you're earning millions a year, the tax system gives you a big kick, but most go to Monaco don't they?
