Title: Rosie's New Baby
Post by: midnight Target on December 03, 2002, 07:06:13 PM
World Entertainment News Network

Retired American chat show host ROSIE O'DONNELL is celebrating the birth of her first natural child.

The beloved TV star's lesbian lover KELLI CARPENTER gave birth to baby VIVIENNE ROSE in New York on Friday. The couple have three adopted children.

The couple named the baby Vivienne Rose after the heroine of best selling book DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA YA SISTERHOOD.

I really do not get it. "Her first natural" child? She had nothing to do with it being conceived and born. This child is as hers as Michael Jackson's.

This is really weird.

It's weird, and very sad.  She's obviously not fit to raise Sea Monkeys.  And concieving a child with the knowledge that it will never have a father is beyond sick.

I wish her luck.  She's got just as much right to raise a child as anyone else in the US.

Some kids would be better off without fathers.

True, better to have no dad than abusive dad.

But I happen to think that a lot of our current societal problems are due to breakdown of families.  Kids need both parents to be healthy, period.  Conceiving a kid without making sure it will have both parents is very selfish

Well first off, it's just common sense.  It's how our species evolved.

There's also some pretty scary psychological studies, where male primates raised without a father are unable to control their anger, and manifest a lot of behaviors which are equivalent to what we see in the demographic groups which have high rates of absentee fathers.  And of course, if you raise a primate with no parents (total neglect) they become completely insane.  Furthermore some of the evidence indicates that these aren't just learned behaviors or lack of learning, but there is detectable physical alteration in the development of the parts of the brain which control social behavior.

But there is empirical evidence too.  There are all kinds of statistics correlating lack of one or more parents (especially the father) with drug abuse, teen pregnancy, violent crime, you name it?  It's one of the leading indicators of major dysfunction.

Do you know any teachers?  Ask them about young boys who don't have a father or a stepfather or a father figure.

I'm not saying all people with one parent are automatically going to be losers.  But it's raises the odds against them being a functional member of society.

It pisses me off that people think toejam like what Rosie is doing is OK.  That's great, just keep spawning them, and we'll keep locking them up.  :(

Rosie or her "friend" plays the man...isn't that OK?

As a side note did you know there was a general in the Pacific in WW2 named "Rosie" O'Donnell? :p

Post by: Dinger on December 04, 2002, 09:05:55 PM
uh. yeah, but plenty of studies also show believe it or not that in the US, lesbian couples are on the average the most stable (in terms of average longevity), longer than married heterosexual couples (gay men, as you'd imagine, are on the other side of the spectrum).  And the kids I've run into being raised by lesbian parents seemed pretty damn well adjusted.

Of course, media celebrities probably shouldn't be allowed to have children, because odds are they're gonna have no parents.

Sorry man, but the simple fact of the matter is that their kid could turn out completely normal or completely diddlyed up or anything in between.  You don't know and I don't know.  When you can tell me, without a doubt that two women or two men raising a kid will (without a doubt) cause that kid to grow up diddlyed up then maybe I'll start agreeing with you.  However, you can't, so I don't.

Of course, Rosie O'Donell is a celebrity so chances are her kid will turned out diddlyed up regardless of her sexual orientation or the presence of a father figure in the kid's life.  ;)

"Lesbian couples are on the average the most stable (in terms of average longevity)"

I believe that, and I believe that women are more likely to be able to be committed parents than men.

But in this case the kid already has one strike against it by being born to a parent who is a victim of abuse.  (Go look up the stats on THAT one.)

And then strike 2 no father.

That is a recipe for disaster.

I'm sure with Rosie's money and a SWAT team of therapists and nannies and her spouse, the kid won't be completely retarded.

But it is an awful example for Joe (or Josephine) Schmoe.

So you're against anyone having a child if they don't fit into the perfect father/mother paradigm?

"So you're against anyone having a child if they don't fit into the perfect father/mother paradigm? "

I said it pretty clearly, I think conceiving a child with out the intention of having both parents is selfish and irresponsible.  And the statistics tell the tale.

As far as perfection, I think prospective parents should take a good look at themselves before they conceive.  People who are addicts or have a history of being abused need to realize that statistically it is extremely likely that the same things will happen to their children.  If they don't get some serious treatment and recovery before they raise the kid, the kid's odds of a good outcome are jeopardized.

I guess it depends on what is more important to the parent.  Their joy in having and raising a child or the actual mental and physical health and outcome of that child's life.

No need to be rude, just wanted to be clear.  That said, I disagree, and believe that as long as a person is willing to give the child their best (ie: love, attention, basic needs), they're on the right track.

We'll just have to stick with Dinger's theory I guess.  :D

SOB sorry for the profane acronym.
And you are right that committed parents of any number and sex combination are better than no committed parents.
I just think that choosing to conceive a child into a suboptimal situation is not good.  Better to adopt kids who have no parents.  And there are plenty of those.

PS...Not sure what was rude.  I'm in the middle of 4 chapters of electronics homework (which I barely understand and don't care about, but need to do), so I'm a little off kilter.  RTFM is one of my favorite acronyms...I used to do tech support :D

I should be OK, two more chapters to go.  It's only ELT100, but my apathy towards it is a big obstacle.  I just wanted to learn the ins and outs of a multimeter!  :D  After three years of network administration in the real world, I'm still not sure why I would need to know half of this toejame.  Don't listen to me tho', I'm just bitter.  Last final is on Wed of next week and then everything will be all better with 3-1/2 weeks off.  ;)

However, the next time I get into a situation where I need to troubleshoot my pinball machine, I know who to bug!

I have to do a make up lab tomorrow by myself using an oscilliscope to read the output of a signal generator.  The instructor gave me a brief overview of what to do.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to screw that one up somewhere.

Ya'll are falling all over yourselves putting down Rosie, when she is one of the few celebrities today actually living the conservative ideal.

1. She gives up a multimillion dollar per year job to raise her family. Why? Because she "has enough money and doesn't need any more".
2. When asked how she did the career/work thing with her kids she just said "It's easy for me, I'm rich. Go ask one of the real heroes how they do it."
3. She is in a long term monogamous relationship.
4. Her TV show was the ONLY G-rated talk show on TV. And she worked hard to maintain that rating.

There is more, but I think some of you stone casters should take a long look at your target first.

It's called math.

%100 of people are people.

%50 of people are women.

%10 of women are gay.

Ergo, %5 of people are lesbians.

Now help me out here Rip.  Would say that %5 is the MAJORITY of people.  Or would you say it's a MINORITY of people.

Think about for awile, I sure you can figure it out.

Midnight - you can count that as the second area we agree on.

Not only does Rosie O'Donnel seem to be a better parent than 95% of americans, she can provide more "male influence" than 99% of american males.

"Male infuence" does not mean just carrying a penice but instilling values and showing example of behavior usually associated with males - at least in more primitive or less degenerated cultures than ours.

midnight Target: Yea! Most of us are Lesbians Thrawn!!

Yeah, Thrawn! Most of us here just love women - and the chick Rosie's got is hot! Way to go, Rosie!

If it were funny I'd just laugh.

Poor old Homer is the butt of most of the jokes on the Simpsons. I laugh at every one of them, especially where I see myself.
