Title: Linux AH also Mac AH !

While reading the tread about a future mac version I noticed that Pyro mentioned that AH is written to be platform independant and that the conversion from D3D to OpenGL was not *that* much of a deal.

Let me add some fuel to the fire by thinking out loud that a platform independant AH with OpenGL support would also run on Linux (okay maybe some porting needs to be done to address libraries etc. but the Linux community has many people who could help with that).

I for one would be happy to dump my Win98 machine (or install Linux on it) if I did not need it to play games (mainly WB). All my other stuff already runs on Linux. Having AH run on Linux would change a lot for me.

Mac's may be a limited market but Mac's and the growing Linux community should make for an interesting set of potential clients ....

I know it may not be realistic right now, but ... Linux is a La-7, sitting in a hanger, waiting for someone to build a runway.

Okay, enough with the tangential digression  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)  I'm just too happy to see the next evolutionary step in WWII flight sims - and with mention of a La-5FN to boot!

Linux now!  Wow,  that would be nice.  No more winbloze and their infernal driver conflicts.

I vote Linux,  and offer myself FREE OF CHARGE to help port it.  (Hear that HT?  FREE OF CHARGE)..

I do believe Linux is outselling Mac OS and Windows in Japan,  It would be like cutting 20% of your salary or potential earning and saying "I dont need 20% more, let the other guys use that to thier advantage"

I do understand that AH has a specific goal to reach profit wise,  Its good to have a plan, but its great to have a long term plan as well with other variables accounted for.
