Just in case you get sick of those pushrod lumps. :)
http://www.vishnutuning.com/stage.htm
The numbers on there are for real, I know plenty of guys on the boards who have these mods and have verified ET/MPH/WHP.
You can get the parts cheaper other places if you want to engineer it yourself (a lot of guys do) but the Vishnu kits are integrated and well tested.
If I still have the car when the warranty expires I will probably install a Stage Zero kit.
PS The bone stock car has 3 cats, one in the uppipe (between exh. manifold and turbine inlet) and two more after the turbo. You can still pass smog with the uppipe cat removed (Stage Zero) but for Stage 1 and beyond you will be doing a lot labor to get the car smogged.

hey funked
http://www.cobbtuning.com/
I plan on picking up an STI in May when it becomes available. I have my name on 3 dealership lists.
Lazs, How the hell are ya? what time are you playing these days?
-
Narsus, I'm still on the fence. We'll see what the STi's are going for. :)
-
It's all rumors these days unfortunately my bet is they will be $28k to 30k to remain competitive. If it is more then I wont be getting one.
-
Yep that's about my limit too.
I guess it will depend on what resale is on my WRX.
-
pretty cool funked... you do know that you can buy a vortec supercharger for a v8 for 2 grand? you can buy a 502ci 502 hp motor for 5 grand.. you can now buy a 750hp crate engine direct from GM.
engines are easy... the drivelines is where is get's tough... I might feel a little out of my depth with the subie transaxle apart all ove my garage floor. then again.... maybe not. I am just an old dinasour who is unable to come to terms with modern tech. I have yet to ride in a 12 sec ricer.. The ones that claimed to be put me back in the seat like a high 13 car. Maybe when I ride in a real good one I will warm to them somewhat... still.... what is that horrible noise they make? the rap music of internal combustion.

That's cool but they won't fit in my Scooby. :)
PS WRX is a lot different from a typical rice rocket. It's not a high RPM car at all. Mid range torque is very strong. Most of the Honda VTEC motors don't get on the really hot cam until 6000 rpm, but the WRX has full boost from about 3000 rpm. And the AWD launch is something that RWD cars just can't match. If WRX is going to win a drag race it's in the 0-30 mph and 1/8 mile area. They aren't so great at higher speeds because they are shaped like a brick.
And yeah I looked at the transaxle shop manuals and it rivaled some of the stuff I used to deal with back in my B-2 bomb door days as far as complexity. Three LSD's on the STi model. No titanium parts though. But I'd prefer to deal with it as I did with the B-2 stuff - sit there and boss around the union guys and let them get dirty trying to put all them little gears together correctly. :)
-
Anyways, just wanted to give you some better figures on the price/performance stuff we were talking about last week.
-
"That's cool but they won't fit in my Scooby. "
Is that some kind of challenge rice boy!! Don't force me to show you how!
Thanks for the info. I like to at least read about wht is happening with the other set.

I'll let you drive it around a bit when we finally have the great go karting fiesta. I have not forgotten. :)
You just gotta let me shoot your .50 cal. :)

Your WRX reaches max torque about 1000 rpm before my M54 does, but then I'm not sure what your redline is ( I believe your torque is similiar though, roughly 215-220?) Redline in my M54 is 6200 (governed) and 7000 with a chip (Ungoverned)
M54's LOVE high rpms, thus the reason max torque isn't achieved until roughly 4200 RPM.
-
My redline is 7000 and I think the limiter kicks in around 7200. The few times I have hit the limiter I was too busy to look at the tach. :)
It's pretty good at high RPM but not as good as my old Civic Si with the B16 motor. The power curve on that thing climbed all the way up to the 8200 rpm rev limit. Sounded like a freaking F1 car. :)
The US spec WRX is detuned a bit from the JDM and Australian versions which have variable valve timing and more boost. Those ones have a bit more torque in the lowest and highest parts of the rev range.
-
Wow! You got a Torque/HP curve chart ? Curious is all.
-
Those new S2000 have all the peek power from like 5000-9000 RPM band talk about streching the rubberband..
Rip you know what the redline is on the BMW Z M package??
I think most of the new 4-bangers high performace run in the 7's.. Mine runs 7200 at limiter..
-
I'll look for a factory crank hp chart but you can find wheel hp charts here:
http://www.vishnutuning.com/images/dyno/baselinehp.jpg
Here's boost and air/fuel ratio:
http://www.vishnutuning.com/images/dyno/baselineafrsmall.jpg
Be advised they have a very conservative dyno. But it gives you an idea of what is happening at different RPMs.

Going by memory by a SMG II video, I believe the guy was hitting roughly 8500 RPM on his shifts on a 2002 M3.

6200!! Are you sure that's not 6800? It should be the same redline as my old e36m3, right?

Try 6000-9000rpm. VTEC does not even kick in until 6000rpm. Below VTEC it feels just like a Miata.

When mazda starts selling these with out voiding my warrant..
-
Heres the the dyno test.. this is one of our guys 2001 with the new 1.8 VVTi

Why do you call it a scooby?

Subaru sorta sounds like Scooby Doo.
-
Scooby is just a dumb slang term for Subarus. Subie, Scoobie, etc.
One of the more prominent racing parts mfrs. is "Scoobysport" out of the UK.
Kinda like goat for a GTO. :)
-
Nuch that graph looks like FUN. :)
I wish I could fit into a Miata or S2000! :(
-
PS Here's what the WRX sounds like with the Scoobysport exhaust that I'm asking Santa for:
http://www.rallyperformance.com/scoobysport1.wav
Not your typical farting ricer. :)

Because its better than calling it a "Dundee." :D
Best leave while you can bud, youre in an unholy land of ricers... where an intake, headers, and exhaust will net you 200HP... and the stickers... my lord the stickers... 20HP for every sticker over number 10 and if youve got a wing on the back and body kit - look out - an F1 car couldnt hold a candle to you.
J/K of course.
There is no substitute.
-
We call em Rex's (as in wrx) down here. We've got other subaru's so you couldn't just apply that label to the wrx (like foresters and legacy's).
Do you guys have godzilla's in the states... heres one of my old customers godzilla : http://www.skylinesdownunder.co.nz/profiles/kiwi/fraser_r34.html

The M3's(2001>>) redline at 8500. The Euro M54 3.0L redlines at 7000 however the US version is Chasity belted at 6200 unless you get a Dinan chip. This allows you to achieve the true redline of 7000 and 155 mph. Otherwise once you hit 128-132 mph, you throttle/fuel cut off goes into effect.
Your older E36M3's are 276 HP I believe, the newer models are 333 hp.

Oh, you mean the rpm where the governor kicks in...the redline should be a bit higher.
The US e36m3's were 240hp...the Euro e36m3's were 315hp.
Yeah, the US e36m3's were governed at 139mph without the chip. Personally, I like Jim Conforti's chips best...that man is a fuel map god.
-
Vulcan.. no Godzillas (Skylines) here but you can pay like 25 grand to have used(not new) one imported to the states.. I forget the name of the Co. that does it though.
If Nissan ever made them here I'd have one..tho.. would have to have the top cut off :D
Least you get to see the limited production Miata SP's..
-
What's a subie?
I think you mean Scooby. Or Scubie. :p
BTW I'd be very surprised if you can pick up an STI car for less than $30,000.
-
Rip this is the best I could come up with for hp & torque at the crank:
