make all acks mannable like on the CV and get rid of otto ack.
its ability to instantly switch targets, shoot throughobjects, etcera SUCKS
i dont fly this game to get shot down by AI with unrealistic parameters.
obviously thismakes field capture too easy, so make field capture require hangers being down. or something else clever you can think of.

Yet you fail to realize that everyone's furballing or just flying and won't man the acks. Then there'll be whines that no one defended a field.....

a person cant see through objects tho
a person in a gun would have spoofable SA, and a limited traverse rate
a person in the gun wouldnt always know the exact lead required against a target

It sure would make it easy to land a goon at a remote field.. no bombing necessary.
I do know that I've never been shot down by an auto ack that I didn't dive in towards.

well deja the point is that acks should behave like ostwinds.. you should be able to play with their minds.. distract them, trick them etcera. they shouldnt be able to see through smoke, etcera.

I dont know about getting rid of it, but it does need a SERIOUS revamp IMO

Think it would be nice to be able to man the guns, but IMHO, the game is right. A base won't stand on it's own unless there are players there to defend it. Sure... OTTO will slow you down a bit, but an undefended field always falls.
I think the things the fields need are more vehicle hangars and more barracks.

I got the solution for this
Make all AI guns fire the SAME ammo that the ju88 tail guns have. And then have MANNED 40mm's in set positions, just like the fleet.
A Ju-88 gun (its a .303??) WILL kill a chute or a troop running around. Any ack huggers will know he wont gain nothing but annoying his opponent (ping ping ping.. damn there goes the paint.. muahaha).
A goon wont be able to land on its own, nor an M3 will be able to go in.
Just add a single .50 cal near the map room (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Do the same thing for the fleets. Let the single ping kill 40mm and 5" be manned only and the rest of the ack be .303's. An unguarded fleet is a dead fleet anyway, AND it would also fix the need of having to literally KAMIKAZE into a cv in order to sink it.

imagine when one contry is outnombered (like bish everydays)
your field will all fall cause you don't have enough guys to man the acks gun....
cause .303 and cal.50 are easiest to kill than 40mm and 88mm on fields...

Gotta say i like the ack (not 88mm) as is .. lottsa tracers, but still if you keep fast and jink a bit you can make a very low pass over the field.
I've been many many times part of field raids where 1 jabo took out acks and dar and the other killed the VH just to land a goon a couple of minutes later..
The only change i would propose would be even more ack emplacements (small caliber) and prolly a few less 40mm
The 88s on the other hand are just shooting too far IMHO

It is nice to have an ability to man acks but remember, guys - it is a flight sim.
People sign on to fly. So the setup should be workable even if no one is willing to defend the field on the ground.
It would be nice to have more realistic AI driving the acks.

Don't really care about them shooting through smoke. I do know that if you get more than two aircraft in the area Ack is VERY easy to confuse. You should try it.
Its easy enough to take down right now. It should not be made easier.

Serously though, the problem I can see of making all the acks manual, is during the off-peak times when you may only have 12 people to a country. There just is not enough manpower to prevent someone else from taking all the bases with minimal effort.
