Looks like an early B-17.  Could it be the Boeing 299?

				I agree looks like a 299

				I say early B17, like YB-17,  I think the 299 was smaller.

opps, confused 299 with 247.   I'll agree with 299, no military markings

this is one of 20 B-17Cs (a.k.a. Fortress I) of RAF 90 Squadron, 3 of which participated in the 1st B-17 raid of WWII (1st ever?) to Wilhelmshaven on July 8th 1941.

bottom 3 are B-17G, top one is B-17C...dont know where Fortress I got the name - seems to be missing quite a few guns (@ least 6), but it did have those nice blisters for the side gunners, like the Privateer (unlike privateer it was a single gun)

Look and compare,  this is  a Model 299

The 299 had a small turret on top of the nose glazing while the B-17B does not . The first photo does not have this. The first photo has a DF loop under the nose, the 299 does not - it was on top of the cockpit. The nose of the 299 was more pointed. There are other differences but they don't show in the first photo.

the wheels & engine nacles are a bit different too.
B-17C is more similar to 299 than to B-17G

It looks like an early version of the B17 before the ball turret was installled.  it has a square box on the bottom behind the bombbay that must be the bathtub where a gunner laid in.
