Title: anti tank teams...
Post by: lazs on March 20, 2001, 02:10:00 PM
from another thread... "bazooka team", panzer faust, RPG, whatever.... Would this be cool?  The terrain needs some cover but it would be something to do when the vehicles come rather than try to bomb em.   Give the 30 calibers on the tanks something to shoot at and give a little infantry flavor to the game without too much effort.   Maybe a  30 ought six for the other team member to shoot the guy in the turent with?

I dunno Lazs, sounds kind of Amish to me. I like my action fast & furious, with little or no time needed to find a fight. Think of the time investment I'd have to make to grab my bazooka, walk out to find some good cover, wait for some GV to come along, and hope that there is more than one GV to shoot at.

On top of that, some bomber strat score-potato would probably fly over and drop a laser-guided bomb on the barracks, preventing me from re-spawning anyway. Maybe we could have a designated "Bazooka island" somewhere, however.

Hey.....if AH included even a simple soldier it would be just dandy with me.

Ive always thought that getting rid of ALL AI would make for a more dynamic (and human)  experience.

I proposed this a month ago in feedback forum.

I would like to see a 8 to 12 men squad instead of single man which I proposed earlier. That way unit would last bit longer under fire and it would have capacity to use larger weapons. Different weapons of squad could be used as in PT boat, changing gunner position ie, rifle from 1, HMG from 2 etc.

How about:

* Rifle squad: 6 x rifle, 1 x SMG, 1 x LMG

Useful for killing other ground troops

- Mortar squad: 5 x rifle, 1 x 81 mm mortar

With 25 mortar rounds, useful for killing ack, light structures and other infantry units or spreading smoke screen

- HMG squad: 4 x rifle, 1 x HMG

Useful for killing infantry units

- AT squad: 1 x close range AT weapon

Useful for ambushing incoming tanks near bases. 5 rounds and range of 200 m

- AT gun: 5 x rifle, 1 x 50 mm AT gun

Same as above but with more range.

In order to work, those squads should be quite difficult to see. Maybe their toughness could be increased from historical to make up the lack of cover.

I could see few interesting uses for these units  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Just act like a real guerrila - stick yourself behind building and then when tank comes in range - pop out and shoot  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

One bad thing.. you'll only have maximum range of 200 meters for panzershreck, thats *quite* short range in AH, when you should be even closer for better accuracy and power.

well gee wank..  Of course it wouldn't work for you and me but it would add choice and variety  and realism.   We can work on parity later.

You do have a point tho.... If they did it AH would add some gimicky "kill the latrine and you get no more soldiers" strat element.   Make em walk slower if you hit the shoe factory in the "city"...

One word: Droptroops

You see GV:s hanging about.. You grab a C-47 loaded with a killer Anti-Tank team, make the drop and enjoy the results.. Kinda like dropping drunks, only this time you'd have to collect the team from real players..Which definately will be more drunk.
