I imagin a lot of you guys are like me, having little models of your favorite aircraft around your house/office.
Yesterday I was in Toys R Us shopping for my daughters. After locating what they liked, mom took them out while I "waited in line" with the things they were buying for their gifts for friends. Then I went and got their gifts.
While I was grabbing stuff, I noticed a GI Joe section and just had to stop for a minute. They had some cool tanks and stuff, but then I noticed something else.
A LARGE box with an F4U (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005UQGH/qid=1039792469/sr=1-9/ref=sr_1_9/002-2702341-6097641?v=glance&s=toys)
fuselage in it?? Looking closer I found multiple different paint schemes for the F4. Then I noticed the STUKA! (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005UQGK/qid=1039792794/sr=1-11/ref=sr_1_11/002-2702341-6097641?v=glance&s=toys)
WOW!
While drolling over these, I got to talking with two guys who were also looking at them, and they told me about the
p38 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005UQGI/qid=1039792469/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/002-2702341-6097641?v=glance&s=toys)
and the P51 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000789SU/qid=1039792469/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/002-2702341-6097641?v=glance&s=toys)
Now I gotta scrape up a couple of hundred bucks and find room in my house for them.
Ouch out.
PS. The final kicker. Those SOB's that I was talking to have jobs at the Cavenaugh Flight Museum, actually WORKING WITH THE REAL DAMN THING.
-
Bought the P-51 last year for my son, 21st Century toy makes some great stuff.
-
I've got the P-51 and the 109... I think I'll have to get these as well :)
-

Well, I broke down and hunted today till I found the P-38. It's HUGE! I mean really, unbelievable, awesomely HUGE!
I'm sitting in my office right now trying to decide if I want to do work, or assemble it. Work is looking less and less likely.
The Toys R Us website had more of the 21st Century Toys stuff than their own website, so if your looking for something, that's where I would suggest going first.
Ouch out.

What was the WW2OL fan site where a guy had a bunch of products from 21st Century Toys and he would pose them and make a running comic type story line with them?
If anyone knows, let me know. I would love to see that again.

Ouch out.
How big is this really, like in feet?
-
I think it's somewehre between 3 and 4 foot wingspan. I haven't assembled it yet, but let me tell you. It's HUGE!
:-)

I picked up the P38 a few weeks ago, that sucker is sweet :) The wingspan is about 34.5" and it's about 26" long. A word of warning: to retract the nose gear you must push it upwards before moving it back, if you try to force the gear it may break.

Large? Huge? Not really. I want one of those:

Unfortunately it's about 200 times the price of the 21st century toys ;)

Good stuff, have them all :D
