Post by: eskimo2 on December 14, 2002, 02:09:35 AM
You have created possibly the most immersive CT environment I've seen yet!

The map is great and seems bug free (and I love the killable trees :)  ).
The skins REALLY make this set-up work.
The match-up is good.
This entire set-up is unique, much like Finlands involvement in the war.

Thank you!
I'm having a blast and it seems that many others are too.

i agree.. damn fine map.. terrain, bases, trees...... setup is very good and the skins are the frosting on this...

it is a little fps intensive (on par with pizza map) but it's livable with.

Thank you very much, brothers!;)

I enjoy to fight with you, except Eskimo, who's shoot me down about hundred times yesterday!:D

If you see bugs (there are!) inform me, please. Let's meet today in the CT, too!

And if it's possible, fly Russian planes when there is full of Finns. You understand we like to fly FINNS/ROOKS because this map is very important of us and it's first time it's on CT...;)

I understand fully, but my father fought the russian in the early
stage 39/40,he was a danish voulenteer,,does that count as half Finn.

It was only two times!

I always try to fly the side with the lowest numbers.  Last night I started out as a Ruskie because they were greatly outnumbered, then switched to Finn when they were outnumbered 2:1.  Eventually it evened out a few times, but the Russians seamed to hold numbers most of the night.  (I do often forget to look at the numbers though).  This set-up is very playable even when out-numbered, it has a good front line to spread the fighting out on.

kanttori,
I have noticed some bugs like GVs spawning N will actually put you west and W will actually put you north at some fields. Why is a Port an Airfield? Ack guns on city buildings remain suspended in mid air when you destroy the building they are on. You probably already know about these. I love the trees and hope a new PTO map will be mad with 100% jungle to prevent the lame ditching instead of bailing. I refer to the ditching in a friendly area. These are not important but just a thought.
Regards,
Hawk

Agreed, this map is awesome!
Flying with this historical matchup is much better than the usual furballs in the MA.
I also stumbled into a mission run by the finns. Allthough I didn´t understand a word of their chatter, this sortie had been the most fun I had for a long time!
I suppose this week I´ll fly CT only.

kanttori, keep up the great work and please bring out a map like this suited for the MA  :)

Curtiss P6-EHawk: Ports and airfields are together, because they all are very important historical bases.

For ex. P71 (Finland) Kymi Airfield was Lentolaivue 34's homebase and Kotka town was at the same time very big fleet port and Finlands main import/export cargo ships port.

Russian P2 contains Oranienbaum's big airbase and Kronstadt's Baltic Sea Fleet base. Murmansk (A37) and Kirkenes (A41) had the same stories.

If I put both ports and airbases, the map is too full on those areas. Ok?;)

Heimdall, I am planning with Lentolaivue 34's CO Camouflage making BIG 1:1 map to Main Arena from the FinRus map's south parts: Gulf of Finland, Lake Ladoga and Lake Onega areas.

Map's size should be like Desert map 512 x 512 miles (about 800 x 800 km) and it's fields should be on historical places. There were enough airbases 60 years ago make the map playable and at the same time historical, too.

3 sides in this map are: Finland in the west, Russia in the east and Germany in the South.

We are going to balance the fields so that it is playable both MA's fair setup and CT/SEA's historical setups.

We are creating there very much big and little lakes, rivers and waterways between smooth hill landscapes and forestes. Here and there are little villages and towns, too.

The current FinRus map has only 16 different variations of little lakes, but the new one should have about 400 variations! I have a very secret system to create them! :D

Is that where the port is actualy on that island just east of P-2? If so that explains it. I promis it was not a whine, just a question to understand.  Also, if it is connected to the P-2 base, does it get captured when the bas is captured? I have noticed a lot of cities with guns that are not on the map. Do these base change when ajoining bases are captured? This is an intense map and gonna take a lot of getting use to.
Nice Map!!

Ack in the little villages:

Yes, I have but about 30 little villages with 8 houses (they are barracks) and two 20 mm flaks to both sides here and there near frontlines. They are owned by countries like cities and you cannot capture them. Of course you can catch perk points when you attack against them!

Let's think they are partisan's camps and they are fighting persistent there!:D

Some background of partisans:

Both Finland and Russia made very much partisan's offensives during whole Continuation War but not Germans (they used Finnish guerillas, because Germans didn't know how to live in our big forestes).

Finnish partisans stayed somethimes couple of months deep behind the Russians fronts. Finnish and Russian partisans had one big difference: Finns never attack agains civils but Russians did it. For that's the reason Finns hated Russian partisans.

The Port/airfield bases:

P2 Kronstadt Fleet Base situated in that little isle in front of Leningrad and Oranienbaum airbase about there where it is now. When you capture the town between them, you own those both!

I have placed all the bases in this map exactly to their real life locations. It was hard work to find a good Russian airbase's maps and in was thinking little while they are locked to Kreml's Cellar!:D

The ack:

I have tried to make the Ack very historical, too: For ex. in Karelian Isthmus and Leningrad area was very heavy flak and in summer 1944 it was unbeliavable heavy, our pilots was really afraid of it!

There were couple Ju88 inevitable divebomber attacks in Tali-Ihantala rejection fights (June 1944) which was almost suicide attacks and pilots knew it. In spite of this the "Junnu" crews bombed the bridges behind Russians and cut their maintenance. They knew that Russe come to Finland if they don't do it. And they did it...

Ok, this is like history lesson, so I stop this now! But if you want to know more from Continuation War, just ask!:D

Just wanted to add my thank you here for the great map and aircraft skins.  I had been taking a long break from AH due to boredom, and this setup brought me back in.  The airfields and cities are a nice touch.  To all the mappers/skinners in AH: keep up the good work!

kanttori,

With the week 1/2 over, once again I want to thank you for what you have done.  I think that this has been the most exciting week for the CT yet.
I have always enjoyed every CT set-up so far.  This particular set-up, however, has drawn many new faces to our arena, and threads on the BB.  The CT certainly has received more attention this week than it ever has in the past.  Your well-planned map and skins are responsible for this attention.  I’m afraid that 1.11 is likely to steal a bit of your thunder, but hopefully we will have a repeat of your map soon.  Single-handedly (OK, perhaps with a bit of help from your friends) you have made a big difference.

Thank you,

eskimo

This is truly a beautiful map, paljon kaunis.

But I like it also because the density of ground objects and their distribution makes it feel VERY realistic.  More so than any other AH or WB map I have seen.  Great job.  Kiitoksia.
