Title: ESPN-Best NFL Games?
Post by: Pongo on December 15, 2002, 10:52:29 PM
I think the sunday night games have consistantly been the best ones this year and the coverage is awsome. Great replays great sky cam.. and the teams have really shown up this year for those games..Monday night has sucked this year.....Sunday night rocks!

You bet. It's like the XFL or whatever that was, done right.

MNF is what it is, for watching games in crowded bars with too many distractions to dive into the game itself. It's more of a excuse to get good wings, hook up with everybody, and pretty much get to serious boozing.
The game seems to be a more of a radio track to the actual party, which ain't all bad concidering. Maybe they plan it that way?

I love coach Madden.
But I don't watch MNF very much.  Crappy games.  Except for the ones the Raiders won.  :)
Sunday night games have been fabulous, despite the horrendous announcing crew.  I was at the Sunday night game between the Raiders and the Patriots, and the atmosphere was as electric as any of the playoff games I have been to in any sport.

No doubt about it Pongo, this has been the Year for Sunday night games...so many close ones, nail biters..etc.  I too have given up MNF for SNF.

I would concede that the anouncing crew is not the best..but the producing crew is. Replays plentiful and quickly, lots of cameras, and game seem to look better at night..

Well, I'm a big madden fan.  I also believe his focus on the line of scrimmage has changed NFL announcing across the boards.  I'm hearing much more emphasis on missed tackles and blown assigns these days. I dunno, I seem to remember it used to be all hero-worship of the QB and ball carriers.

Concur on Sunday Night.  On top of everything else already mentioned, the games themselves have been good.  If I'm not mistaken, MNF this year has had one game decided by less than two touchdowns.  It seems like Sunday Night has had maybe one decided by more than a TD.
Heck, even the Cardinals and Rams make for a good Sunday Night Game.

This is part luck and part scheduling.  MNF games go to the "big matchups": ostensibly that means meetings between two teams with good records the previous season. In reality that means, meetings guaranteed to generate ratings.  Good teams generate ratings, and so do crappy teams with big followings (Foreskins-Cowboy, for example).
SNF has in the past been the consolation prize, but this year someone got it right.

Sunday night football is why I drag into the office on Monday mornings, and Monday night football is why I can schedule 9 am contract negotiation conference calls with a certain confidence that I'll be well rested and alert.
