Title: Tiger 1 is nice perk vehicle.
Post by: Pongo on December 18, 2002, 12:02:37 AM
very nimble like the tiger was. silly to restrict the fire control and driving so much..why not give the drivers hatch view..people will get really sick of loosing tigers to schrubs..

Do any tanks really move so far off borsight when you shoot the main armement? like its way way off....seems exagerated..

The armour effects still seem to be random. I hit another tiger 3 times in the flank...(1500 yards) no effect still driving full speed. then I hit him again and engine killed him..2500 yards. then twice more to kill him...

Another tiger I him 5 times on the side and only tracked him befor he killed me with two pings.. The 5 hits at 1500 yards were all over the left side of the enemy...just to try to find a weak spot...no luck. He frontaly killed me with two pings...Had I kept the point of aim I would have hit him 8 times...but I have learned if the first shot doensnt kill move it arround a little....silly....

Still no co ax machine gun. Its a very important part of the tank..start thinking about including it..
Perk tanks should have a better range finding sight...
The armour effects still seem random...

U can use rudder in pintle gun view to stear the tank. Just give full power go to pintle gun view and use ur rudder to drive the tank left and right

Still no co ax machine gun?    What co ax MG do you mean?   Both the PNZR and the Tiger have 3 MG's for me at least, hull gun, one in turret and one on top.  Isn't that correct?

LOL
then I have to figure out how to map a key to it...I have never been able to use a co ax machine gun..being a MG that is slaved to the main armement..there is a hull gun and the commanders gun..I have never found or fired a coaxial..Well I have in real life..but not in AH.

I use my rudder pedals to stear the tank too. But every time you go to the commanders postition..it is facing off into space...kind of anoying.

It's in the key setup under the Gunner keys; IIRC, it's 'Fire Secondary Weapon'.

speaking of the panzers and tigers pintle gun, its still has a bug which has been here since 1.07 (i think thats the one where they adjusted the pintles field of fire)

it points to the 3 o'clock
it moves to the 11 counter-clock wise
and 7 clockwise

shouldn't it point to the 12, and go to 8 counter-clockwise, and to the 4 clockwise?

That topic has special meaning to me, it was what my first post on here was about:cool:

From pictures of both the PzKpfw IVH and PzKpfw VIa, the pintle arcs look about right. On the PzKpfw IVH, the commander's hatch swung up on a hinge at the 9 o'clock position, preventing the pintle gun from being swung in that arc. On the PzKpfw VIa, the commander's hatch raised straight up on a shaft at the 9 o'clock position, then rotated 180° to clear the cupola; the rail that the pintle gun ran on did not extend to the vision blocks on either side of the shaft, which limits the pintle gun arc.

However, this is just the limit on where the mount for the pintle gun can be swung; the design of a pintle mount allows the gun to be swung in azimuth without moving the gun along the mounting rail, which would allow the pintle gun to be swung to cover the arc that the mounting rail won't cover.

That has always been a weakness in the modleing of the pintel mount..In fact it can point in any direction but the comander would have to lean out of the hatch a  little to do so.
The version of a tiger that we have in the game had no pintle mount. So discussion as to how it would be implemented accuratly is a bit mute.

Yeah, this is my main beef with the Tiger as well.  How come you can't raise the driver's head position above the top of the hull like you can in the PzIV and as you're stuck with using the Tiger's own hull MG?  Hell, it's risky just driving out of the VH and turning too soon, hitting the camo netting and dying.

But the main problem here is, there are things out there that rightly kill ditching planes but wrongly kill AFVs.  There is no way hitting a tiny pebble or a tree should utterly destroy any of the vehicles in AH.  That needs to be fixed more than the Tiger's driver's view IMHO.

Well, usually you're zoomed way in when you're shooting so the effects of recoil are going to look much worse than they really are.

Perk tanks should have a better range finding sight...

How so?  The only rangefinders that WW2 tanks had were marks on the sight reticle and the old Mark I Mod 0 eyeball.  True, our current reticle has no marks on it dedicated to rangefinding, but with a little practice you can use the marks we have for that purpose.  Which in fact is no different at all from what they did in WW2 ;).

Wasn't there something used in WW2 that was like the range finder on manual photo cameras? Where the lense was adjusted till there was no break in the picture. Reading of that device used as the range for the gun?

Don't know, but I think I read that somewhere.

It's called an optical-coincidence rangefinder. They were used by heavy artillery units, notably the 88mm FlaK and PaK batteries. The picture below is of the Tamiya 1/35 plastic model kit of the 88mm FlaK 36/37 (built as a FlaK 37); the third figure from the left is posed using an optical-coincidence rangefinder.

I have never been able to shoot the main gun MG. I see the ammo listed in the top left of screen but can't for the life of me find the position or how to selelct it from the main gun position. Please describe the process to use this?

Which they didn't put in tanks until after WW2.....  When they did, the tank turrets got ears on each side where the ends of the horizontal tube stuck out.  Just like on the main turrets of the CAs in the TGs.  Because ship turrets had these rangefinders in them dating back to WW1.

You fire the coax with the same key that you drop bombs and fire other airplane 2ndary weapons with.  The default key is b.

That's all there is to it.  The coax MG is the 2ndary weapon for the main gunner.  So the primary weapon trigger (default f) fires the main gun and the 2ndary weapon trigger (b) fires the coax.

Actually, no; the default in vehicles is for both the primary and secondary fire to fire the main gun (and has been for several versions); firing the coax machine gun is set via the 'Fire Secondary' key mapping for gunners, and defaults to NONE.

No reason not to give the Tiger the real german range finding reticle...
Those optical range finders were issued to tankers as well..and the Stug units..
Why not make them available to Perk tanks?
There were a few protoypes at the end of the war that also had them built into the turrent..
