Title: Saitek X45 users
Post by: fuzeman on December 18, 2002, 02:39:43 AM
A squadmate is trying some new joysticks and the X45 is one of them. He is having trouble getting the hats to work correctly.
I've heard that it works with some operating systems better than others and that some 'button programming software' is better than others also.
Can you fill me in on whats the best way to get this stick to work and thank you for your advice in advance.
I can't help him much being a CH guy.

Again thanks for any help given,
fuzeman

I have an X45 that works perfectly for me.  I had the X36 before, which is the same stick only without the gay powder blue base and LED buttons, so that helped a lot.  Have your bud email me his specific problems at jtweller@earthlink.net and I'll see what I can do for him.

2 things you can tell him right off the bat, however, that may clear up his problems:

1.  Turn off the autoloader for the stick config and load your config manually.  That's the only way to be sure your stick gets programmed.

2.  If the X45 gets programmed OK but quits working completely (as in joystick axes as well as the buttons) after some random but short period of time, buy a powered USB hub and plug the X45 into that.  It seems that all those gay LED buttons suck too much juice for most on-the-box USB ports, and that shuts the stick down after a few minutes.

I was trying one with XP, latest drivers, Saiteks own software, everything worked like a dream (all hats, rotories etc).

I use dhauzimmers drivers and hazardscript.  Click here for dhauzimmer's drivers (http://vega.dyndns.org/x36/).  And here for  Hazardscript (http://www.mindspring.com/~haphazard/HazardScript/).  A little more complicated, but well worth it!!

Thanks for the replies guys. He was testing out 2 Saitek sticks and he thinks he is going to stick, no pun intended, with the X45.
Now he just has to hope this one doesn't meet the same end as his previous one.
It was executed by his wife.

Thanks again, I guess we can close this one out.

Hiya Terror,

I have a X45 also in Win98SE and have loaded the DZ drivers correctly and I am using the default.bpf.  I have downloaded HS and JHSgui for making HS profiles.  However, it is kicking my arse.  Could you possible send me your profile so I can maybe catch a clue?  Thxs.  You can email it at awrotor@telocity.com.  Really, really appreciate this.  Feel free to include any tips in that email :). Thxs.

Ok Straffo,

Are you using XDprofile?  I have done more reading on it, and I'm starting to get a clue.  However, I cant see how to get the scripts to show in the GUI window.  Do I have to make a text file and save it somewhere in the XD directory for the GuI to see it?

Boy, am I dumb!

Figgered it out.  Now to see how I can break this thing hehehe.

However, if you can give me a clue on how to setup the rotaries, I would appreciate it.  I am thinking of setting one for flaps and the other for elev trim.

Title: Saitek X45 functionality
Post by: bjazer on December 26, 2002, 09:15:10 PM
I am using an X45 on Win 2K and it works fine when I don't have a specific game config loaded.  When I load a custom config then only my axes work.  All of the other functionality is lost.

When I unload the config profile then the AH defaults that are mapped to hats & buttons function as expected.  I can't get any rotaries to work.

Ideally, I would like to map the rotaries to head/view movement, is this possible?

Just a side note: the custom config functionality of the stick works fine in other games, just not AH.

Thanks,
-B

bjazer I think you need to assign DX functions to the buttons in your custom profile for the game to pick them up otherwise the game doesn't see them. I assign all buttons in my profile with keyboard commands.

Thanks!  I spent some time mapping stick buttons in AH so this seems to be pretty effective.  I will try the DX approach too.

i love the x-45

i have most the buttons and hats mapped

my problem is that the flight control is too big and where the heel of my hand sits is too low...remedy  was to wrap the cable around twice, it keeps my hand up high on the stick

the rotory swithces can be used , but not as rotors

the safety cover for the "fire" button is kinda much...when pulling  up from a dive bomb it has a tendency to cover the button back up...i have it taped open

also i have the dampers turned way down...the stick and rudder controls has enough stiffness to not ned them, and my shooting is more accurate

the mouse, rotors and the second hat on the stick is the only un mapped things.

Mirge what drivers are you using for your X-45? All buttons and hats are programmable in all operating systems now.

Mirge if you are on WinME, you need to use SGE software not SST.  If you are like me, my X45 came with and old version of SST.  You need to contact Saitek USA support and ask for a SGE software disc.  They know there was a problem with the box sets not having all the software in it.

That or use the DZ drivers we've been talking about.  SGE interfaces with explorer.exe and can be a pain as I understand.  I've never loaded it.

Rotor has it. You need what they call the SD 2 disc which for some unknown reason you can only get by e-mail. I had good luck with SGE but some people had problems running it. SGE 3.0 is available for download but unfortunatly it doesn't recognise the X-45, you need SD 2 for that.

Sik, here is a XDProfile with elev trim and aileron trim setup on the rotaries.  Thxs to Des for helping me out with this.  Actually he came up with a chain that worked and I just tweaked it.

This profile is setup to expand into modes 2 and 3.  Maybe next week I'll work on that.  I have tested in game and with sticktester.  Everything works on my win98SE machine, and DX9.

Des says he gets sticky views, but it seems to be a winXP problem.  Anyways, here is the file let me know if it works for ya.  Again, thxs to Des for all the help.

Am Using WIN98 and just got the Saitek X45.  Nothing has made sense to me yet!    Is there a way to profile it in AH or do I need to use the Saitek profiler?  Is there different drivers and are there plces to go and work on this?  I spent 3 hours on it Friday night, then uninstalled it.  My MSFF from 1997 still works  :)
I'd like to move forward and get this operational.  However, only one hat works, and the keys are giving me fits.  I can do things, but have to use the "Mode" switch to move from the limited options.
Looks like a cool combo, but I have to say.......it has caused me more problems than I wish to deal with.

I see earlier posts with a .psi extension.  Why is that?  Mine are .dat.  Is there another option out there?  Just asking.

k-ken, you can get the latest drivers from http://www.saitek.com, it comes with the latest programming software. I don't know specifically how well the win 98 stuff works, but i have everything working including the rotaries. I set the views in AH, then used the programming software for everything else.

I too still find my ms stick to be a kick butt stick as well :)

as for the safe guard on bomb switch I cut some (firm) foam out and stuffed it in the cover... now you just press the cover and it works just like x36...... besides button under cover to small while diving at 400knotts....

Thanks all, Eagler, I had set mine up a bit differently, but similarly too.  Mode 3,  I used for landing commands only.  However, tonight I tried a couple of yours and they were cool.  One was the Fire button.  I had mine set to "F" instead of "N" and use the secondary for secondary only.  I tried the KI61 and ended up setting it back.  The secondary ammo is gone long before I want it to be gone.

Has anyone been able to set the other hats in AH?  (using WIN98SE)?  I have the latest drivers and software, I think.  I saw nothing on the saitek site.  Anyway, thanks for the assistance.

Rotories can be used for trim settings........I understand.  Trims elevators and ailerons, as needed.  Sounds cool to me.
