A B&Zer? Both? Neither? What's your combat style?
-
I am a turn fighter....in reality I'm not very good at either, but I die less in turn fights.
With a BNZ, like the Pony, once I'm out of E, I'm out of choices. There's nothing worse than being on the deck in a Pony, and seeing an LA-7 on your 6 at D900 and closing. I mean, what can you do at that point? You can't run. You can't out turn him.
*shrugs*
-
I can't turnfight worth beans. I'm more of a "take advantage of your being in a bad position and in front of my guns" type of fighter.
-
I usually end up turn fighting...no matter what plane I fly. So, I try to fly planes that will turn.
-
BnZ (have to admit TnB is more fun but not in MA)
-
BnZ, preferably against a Spit on autopilot. I suck at turnfights, and I don't think they can be modeled too well in a sim anyway.

Just B/Z. Turning is what for lamers and spit tards :)
-
Turn fighter and energy fighter here.
-
B&Z with Spit (MA) and Brewst... FM2 (CT). Of couse relative E sitution and number of enemys have allways the last call for suitable tactics.
When enemy become "Well done" its time use some T&B.
....
At least I try to do so :D
-
TnB here... P51 isnt a great Turner but it has some nice features.
-
I BNZ if there is a large number of nme's. Relative numbers mean nothing since you tend to be so committed in a turnfight that you can easily be picked off even if your side is more numerous than the other. I turnfight if its one v one almost every time, unless the fight would be so lopsided as to make it totally senseless to try. Even so I will normally try a couple turns against a much better turner (even spits, zekes and niks) in a mustang just to see if I stand a chance of winning it .... if the fight is starting at sufficient altitude so that I can dive out and go to BNZing if it looks like I aint gonna get it done. I think turnfighting is pretty cool in AH simply because pilot skill plays a huge part of how successful you are vs individual plane performance. This allows mustangs to beat the occasional nik or spit in a turnfight and thats pretty rewarding...if your the mustang anyway lol. The problem with turnfighting in AH is the huge number of folks in the MA tend to make it suicide...but I wouldnt have it any other way, heck they'll give a new plane if ya lose it so who cares :).

B&Z for the most part. Unless I think I can get down into a turn fight, get the kill and get out again with minimal risk. It's all based on situation; do I have a wingman, am I hopelessly out numbered/outclassed, that sort of thing. I use the best tactic for the situation.
-
There's no such thing as BnZ for 109s...
So I guessI fake BnZ to mow down the target's E status and then start TnB upto the point I can, and then run away if I make a mistake.
-
I use to be mostly BnZ. But as I've flown over the years, I've transitioned into a vertical E fighter mostly.
Turnfighting?? eeeeee uuuuuuuuuuu :p
-
My "combat style" is based upon the goal of killing the other guy by whatever means is necessary. Frankly, I never even think about it as a "style". What I do prefer to do, is use the bounce to break down the enemies E, then kill 'em. It matters not what I fly, the methodology is the same.
My regards,
Widewing
-
I usually energy fight. That's not to say that i wont turnfight once in a while.:)
-
BTW, if you need to turn flat, you've done something really wrong before.
-
I do a little bit of both... usually start as B&Z let it degrade to T&B until a certain point I know that I will lose the advantage. Then I disengage.:)
-
SPITDARDS??? people who dont turn fight ,, suck at it so they use advantage and bounce ya with their la7 or stang ,, run ,, or bounce you when you are in a turn fight with a true fighter . I think the spit is gettin a bad rap in here . zeke and hurrican aren't dweeb AC'S ??
I think its the pilot not the AC that are dweebs
:p

im a try to fly and die fighter on defence...once im on your arse well...lets just say that 20mm hispanos are very good flor wing clipping
-
all i used to do was turn fight. prob is i usually couldnt run when i was out of ammo. so now iam a bnz least this way i gotta chance
-
Turn fight? E-fight? I do whatever I think will work :)

I do have to admit that 20mm hispanoz can spit out lotsa trash. Doesnt bother me a bit cas I got 4x20mm in my A8.
:D

Funny I think most folks dont realise there is a difference between Energy Fighting, and Boom n Zoom. Thou I can see a few do.
I attempt to E Fight whenever I can, some situations require differnt tactics. Of course this doesnt mean Im good at it, but I try.

If it kills 'em dead, I do it.

I fly toward the enemy get into a position where I can shoot and thats about it. Sometimes this means I turn and other times not. I love to stall the enemy on the vertical ropes and shoot them when they can barely move.
-
I guess I can identify with all of you. In the beginning I was a Spit turnfighter, then a Tempest B&Z (in H2H where one can fly perk planes at will)...now I fly the 109 G10 and try to fly smartly and be E-aware. Do I succeed? Sometimes I do, but often I find myself on the deck with an La7 on my tail, and, even though I think I can squeeze the most out of my 109 in a turn, it's not enough...
-
Depends on the plane I'm flying. I normally fly the P-38, F6F, and sometimes the 190A-5 or Spit V for kicks.
My fighting style in the 38 is hard to define. It cannot dive to great speed without compressing, so BnZ attacks must be carefully managed; I will not dive from the stratosphere on people, perhaps only 5,000 feet or so.
As far as TnBing, I don't use it like a Spit V and whip it around in tight circles. I always use the vertical in a stallfight. Nothing immels and loops like a P-38. Having no net torque is a godsend, and with flaps out, I can get down to about 40 mph before my nose will fall. So, I don't turn and burn, I loop and burn. :)
On the other hand, the F6F is a wonderful BnZ plane, but I can also surprise people at low speed in a stall fight with the aid of one or two notches of flaps. Generally I try to climb above a furball and pick out the stragglers, and I'll engage in a stall fight with certain other planes if necessary, but never spitfires.
190A-5 is the perfect BnZ plane, but without the Dora's ability to run from anything, so flying it often tends to test your defensive skills.
The Spit V is, in my opinion, the best TnB plane in the game. I only fly it for defending a base against superior numbers. It's slow, but it's one of those planes where I can emerge the victor when greatly outnumbered, as long as my opponents aren't too clever. I try to exploit people's aggression and greed for kills to be successful.
-
Turn fighting is a blast and what I prefer. I love my Hurricane Mk1 because it takes some skill to fly correctly and even more to get kills in it with the 303's. I have been trying my hand at bnz but i find it kinda boaring to climb to 20-25K only to find somebody else at 30K+ not much fun in that at all!
I don't think there are any dweeb planes out there, just the people who fly them. LOL the worst are the BnZ guys that you do manage to catch in an awkward position, flame them and then hear them whine on ch1 about it.

Many people says that the B&Z is boring. It depends
Its true when enemy come with huge E advantage and use real Hit & Run tactics with minimum 5k extend runs (Ponys, 190s, P47s, F4Us etc) ;-).
Things come litlebit different when enemy use Hit & Climb tactics with 109s (not G10), Spit9 etc and stays inside 3k. Like somebody says once: Energy knifefight.
I had some very good fights in MA which start about 20k-30k and end to the deck or allmost. Once it was Spit9 vs Spit9 and fight progress like: about 25k Hit & Run to push enemy to turn, 15k Hit & Climb and last 8k vertical Turn & Burn. It was loong fight where I give and take hits.
-
BnZ, plus sometimes I'll try to E-fight - and get killed moments thereafter :)
-
I fly the F4u mostly so BnZ is my tactic of choice but sometimes if it's a 1 on 1 ill give a couple notches on flaps and TnB. As often as not I come out on the bad end of that. Usually if I cant get the kill early in a TnB fight Im dead.
-
I prefer the turn fight, but ultimately end up in a HO situation which pisses off the other guy. I never back down from a HO pass. Hell. why do you get mad at me if YOU flew straight at me and we collided or ripped each other wings off? If I'm lucky enough I survive and can TURN back to get the chute:)
I hate the BnZ fight because they make it look so damn easy and for me every time I try it I end up with a really bad pass or black out, or rip my wings off, .... you get the point.
-
I t&b and b&z all planes, but I like a good turnfight the best
-
I prefer to think of myself as a "turd fighter', always doing battle with those turds who fly P51s, 190s and N1Ks. :)
Since the only plane Popeye lets me fly is a Spitfire, I seem to be a turn fighter.

I turn fight. Of course, the majority of my turns are vertical :D .
-
I'm an angles fighter. Whatever it takes to get the angle for the shot, I do it. If it's flat turning, so be it. Vertical turning, so be it. Letting a guy with more E think he's gonna get a shot, then roll over on his 6 and take shots as he's extending, so be it. Shoot you in the face as you try to avoid the HO, hellz yea.
Thing is, I suck. :) I get a kill here, a kill there. then I die about 5 times in a row. ;)
-
I usually fly a variety of airplanes. If I'm flying a new plane, I'll try to turn it first and, if that fails, then I'll try BnZ. Doing TOD and the CT has given me some R4d FIgH+eR 5K1Ll5 in the midwar planes, but I get eaten alive in the MA unless I'm in a FW 190a8.
-
I dance around in the lightning.
-
both, depending on the ride
-
I walk on the border between E-fight and B&Z.... trying to avoid T&B; I suck at it:D
B&Z request more preparation and can be boring sometimes, but geezzzz.... what a sensation when you reverse your plane and go down for the target;)
-
To me there's nothing like an intense turn fight. Slow Spit vs. Spit or Nik dances on the edge of stall. I love it when planes slam on the brakes and start scissoring as I come up behind them hoping I'll overshoot. I LIVE for that chit. If I'm in a SpitV, I slow right down with 'em. If in a speedster, take advantage of their blown E. BnZ is cool if your opponent is overly aggressive. Zoom back up to your perch and watch the con attempt to reach up to you and close the distance till he starts slowing down, then nose over and light 'em up. Of course, overshooting in that situation has gotten me killed. :)
Energy fighting is the real challenge when it's not so easy to tell who has the advantage (that's when I get killed the most). There's an "escape window" that's closing as the fight goes on, and you gotta decide if you're going to need it before it shuts, especially when you're in a speedster and fighting an La-7 or Yak.
-
I am a converted Spit-tard.
-
:) I am the type of pilot that you need to hold still and let me shoot you. My style really depends on what I am flying and what mood I am in.

Bit of both depending on numbers. If there are high numbers of enemy vs ally, I tend to fight more conservatively and turnfight only in short durations. If it's relatively even matched, I'll turnfight anything with pretty much everything.
-
Depends on the situation and the plane I'm flying.
If I'm in the P-38, I use a mix of Energy and Angles tactics to achieve the advantage and kill.
In the Me-262, it's strictly Energy fighting with only turns to achieve a deflection shot on high speed passes.
In the A-20 and Ju-87, I use Angle fighting tactics to achieve the advantage and eventual kill.

E fighter mostly.
Have been known to TnB with my pony.
Will also up Hurri IIC's for base defence.
-
I fly 190's and the occasional 109, so I guess I'm B&Z+E.
-
I just wing it...fly the plane as hard as I can till I'm dead or spiralling to my death :)
Getting really good at killing drones while I'm waiting for my bandwidth limit on my broadband account to tick over to the next month...
