i was testing aces high fm today with my spreadsheet and i found that when you are dirty with ordnance if you are using aces high default climb speed u are short changing yourslef climb performance
you hsould decrease your climb speed when dirty to get maximum roc, just like in real life
wtg on the fms htc
btw climb rates were accurate in dirty condition to 3% (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
I disagree with htc on many game issues, but their FMs are definitely top notch.

I use before Auto climb but I find some strange behavior. Climb rate could suddenly change during climb.
Now I use only Auto angle. It very easy to adjust climb/dive rate with pitch trim.
I use The Force to find best climb rate ;-)

the reason why your climbrate differs
is due to turbulence,,,sometimes you hit upwinds,,sometimes downwinds/windsheer,,,

About AH Auto Climb: How you use it? If I remember right somebody say like that you should generally add more speed as you get higher all the time to keep max climb performance. For that purpose there is ".speed xxx" dot command to set speed.
Is it true?

You needed a chart to figure that out? Simple to do. Get 2 of the same AC. One loads with externals, the other does not. The heavy plane is slower to altitiude.
Either that or look at your ROC when clean verus dirty. Easy to see the difference

How can I get the optimal Climb Speed /Altitude chart for a plane ?
Is there a way to compute it or a place to get the chart I've understood the best climb speed is not the same at sea level and 10K for exemple.

I think question is generaly about speed (IAS at MIL/WEP throtle) vs climb angle at given alt to get optimum constant climb (feet/sec).
Wind drection, type of plane, damages and load(fuel, ordnance & ammo) effect to this best climb rate.

If you hold a constant climb speed, climb rate will change as the engine power changes(look at the performance charts on the help page to see what I mean). It could also be due to wind layers, but I don't think wind is turned on in the MA?

Uhm, what he noticed was that the best speed for climbing when you are carrying ordinance is lower than the default speed, which is the best climb speed for a clean aircraft. Ie: with bombs on, you actually gain some climbrate if you fly slower than the default climb speed, just like you would in Real Life™.

Uhm, you should use 100%(not WEP, save it for combat)! Unless you want to climb slower for some unknown reason...
The whole point is that if the best climb speed for a clean a/c is say; 160mph IAS, then with bombs on the best climb speed might be 150mph IAS, ie: lower.
Then again, there are some planes like the Yak-9U which has very close climbrates at any speed from 100mph to 200mph IAS. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Ya, discovered this several months ago testing offline while timing arrive times for mixed flights on one of our redflag missions.
F4U-1D seems to do best by (from memory) 1 min.5 sec over a 25 mile scale from 0 feet to 10k at a climbspeed of 165-170 (dirty).

You should use 100% all of the time. I think what zig is saying is that if you use the default autoclimb speed you will not get the best ROC. Use the .speed command to find the autoclimb speed which gives you the best ROC or use the autoangle to achieve the same effect.

Wind IS turned on in the MA.
I notice it the most around 12k.
