Is it wrong to squelch this channel as soon as you enter the Main Arena? I actually have it macro'ed to a button so it's quick and easy.......

I usually do, unless it's 3AM EST or later... by then most of the politics arguing drunkards and childish rantings have dissipated.

I have a macro too. I hit it the second I enter the arena.

Hello
".squelch 1" is unfortanetly needed very offen. Out there are way too many people who think that THEIR post is everybodys intrest number one... What these SOBs really think about them self anyway?
HTC
How about that permanent squelch list?
-
Usually yes and it's kind of sad to have to. I asked HT about getting a "permanent squelch list" HERE (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73700).
Haven't gotten an answer yet but you might keep an eye on (and bump) it until he does...

Squelching Channel 1 is the very first thing I do...even before popping the top off the ole' brewski.
How do you set up that macro?
I need to do that !
Thanks,

.......but it doesn't seem to matter. Even after I type in ".squelch 1" the stuff keeps right on coming through................:(

I can ignore the chat buffer fine
Its the VOX I wish I could mute

MY feelings exactly!
".squelch 1" is always the first thing I type upon entering the arena, and occasionally, when things get really tough, I'd love to have the ability to mute the range channel as well.

Make sure that you have the open channel set to Channel 1 on the radio buffer.
ack-ack

Just get 5 miles away from the offending range VOX channel user. I guess I have been real lucky... Only had a problem once, and that was because someone had "talk" programmed to their stick and the stick was holding the button down constantly transmitting their breathing.

I don't necessarily squelch channel 1 as soon as I enter the arena, but I will always have it squelched before I take off the first time; there is already enough traffic on the country, range, and squad channels, and I don't need to have to try to filter out useful messages from all the text messages for my country, much less the megatons of fewmets that fill channel 1.

Incase you've missed it, HT has stated on more than one occasion that a permanate squelch list isn't the fix to arena behavior that he wants.
Although he didn't go into details as to why or what, the general impression I got was that the arena behavior is a problem but a perm squelch isn't going to be his solution since it doesn't stop it.
-
Rgr that MrLars. Appreciate the reply, I'll not wait for an answer. Seems a shame tho... as there is NO other solution. Moderators and 'bad words' filters will never work well. With the list you could have all those offensive to you on it and still listen/chat on Ch 1 without the BS. The squelch list would work for Voice as well so that the range Ch problem would be fixed too. There's no other way to have both that I can think of, can you?
-
1st thing i do is squelch, makes the time online oh so much better.

I usually have #1 squelched when I log on...
... then 5 minutes later I have to unsquelch it, coz I think its kinda rude to abuse someone on #1 when you've got it squelched :D
-
always squelch 1,but only so as not to miss any country info :)
No offence to y'all, just hate to miss anything (on country channel)
:)

Well, I don't have a current macro for squelch but I did in Air Warrior and I would add morons as they appeared. I feel it's better to squelch the Jerks in the crowd then the entire crowd because of a few jerks. By and large I enjoy the ribbing, and banter as long as it is in Fun and not whineing. But I used to play in RR in AW with the rest of the Macro Maniacs. I know that many folks that played FR frowned on Macros in a big way. It was their business. I didnt play there so I never really cared. But in RR it was funny to see all the trash and some of the Macros were Very funny. As I said, as long as the ribbing was in fun and not taken to the personal level, who cares. It's a game. Even when it is, at the risk of being redundent. Squelch the fools, not the folk.
-
I never normally squelch, unless there is an arguement that is endless or someone taunts another player about how much they suck, also when there are loads of players on i sometimes squelch so that i can read what my country is saying.
-
Hold in the S3 button and press the S1 button on my joystick and the text buffer is brought up, ".squelch 1" is automatically entered and then the Enter keypress is sent.
I never have to take my hands of my stick and throttle.
I have found the game to be very much more enjoyable without watching the political neandertals spam channel 1.
-
Aye, also 1st thing i do on entering the arena. Why there isn't an ini file that recalls your preferred setting for this god only knows. One of the more amateur aspects of the AH?
-
I only squelch 1 when the signal : whine ratio gets too low or when I'm missing info because the buffer is filling too fast. I enjoy chatting to my fellow addicts on sending/receiving
's after a good fight...
-
Naw, I normally just ignore it. Red and purple text is all that really gets my attention.
If it is scrolling too fast squelching 2 or 3 guys usually takes care of 50% of it

There's too much fantastically retarded stuff going on on channel 1 for me to squelch it. The only time I HAVE squelched it was a loong time ago when Nath got some gay discussion going on the open about how purty and special some LuftWaffle pile-it or general or something-or-other was, and got half the arena arguing about it. I couldn't take it anymore and the .squelch command has (or had) a limit on how many people you can squelch at one time, so once I reached that limit and still wasn't finished I had to just squelch 1.

I just squelch Terror:D

It's standard practice for me nowadays to .squelch 1 as soon as I log into the MA.
-
Nah, don't squelch it, never felt the need. In the heat of combat I don't even notice. Maybe something to do with the hours I'm playing (GMT +1 based).
One day I took off from a carrier, nicely close to an undefended field (rare occasion). Flew around a bit, got into a dogfight with the lone guy/gal rising to meet the challenge, f*cked up as usual and had to chicken out low over the water to my CV. Suddenly a million check 6-es and a truckload of verbal abuse over my own countries channel. Without ever noticing the text buffer or paying much attention, a lone guy had managed to get the carrier close, level the town and was on the verge of capturing the field with a LVTA. He thought I was buzzing him for air cover, asked not to but I hardely noticed him in the heat of the dogfight. You can guess what happened, he got blasted and I took the full frustration of that. I HATE agression towards me in any shape or form but I can understand his sentiments. But nevertheless, it's only a game...
squeaking over vox can be annoying, I got a lot of abuse lately for 'stealing someone's kill'. Weeelll, the person involved was already chasing that Fw-190 when I WAS TAKING OFF and still hadn't got him when I got up to a nice speed and altitude to engage. I had him in seconds, even with the sucky cannons of my La-5. If you can do better shoot him first.
-
Much of my enjoyment in the MA is watching Channel 1. I never squelch it.

I'll squelch ch.1 when the chatroom mode and/or schoolyard taunting gets to be too much. I personally don't mind some of the ch.1 (ahem) humor but I record every fight, and I like to show some of the films to friends, family, adults with kids - you know, POTENTIAL SUBSCRIBERS.
HTC, could someone please make it so that whatever/whoever is squelched is kept from appearing in films?
BTW, there is a .vsquelch (voice squelch) command, although I very rarely have a problem with the range channel.

I am truley hurt (sniff!) Grow a sense humor....It's a game and if your still running a dial up and text is effecting your band width, all I can say is Boo Efen Hoo. Squelch the fool not the channel. If you don't like me, I am fairly sure I will get over it.
Well, OLDMn must have really peed in some wheatys while I have been away and from what I have seen here so far, more power to him! Take it to guns and save your flames for the Game. You and Oedipuss are getting tired.

I always squelch 1 as soon as I jump into the MA. The silly crud that seems to flow over ch 1 about 75% of the time makes me feel embarrased for AH, and I sometimes wonder what the new guys must think about AH when the read it, since they probably have no idea about squelch yet. Perhaps ch 1 should not be on the radiobar as a default. That way new pilots wouldn't be exposed to the sewer until they had already been hooked :D
-
I shouldn't reply, cuz I *don't* squelch 1
but, i just realized something odd - i didn't think most of the guys who've said they squelch 1 in here still played AH
when you squelch 1, it removes you from part of the game i think.
here's to hoping people will grow up someday so that all you folks can leave 1 open

ROFL....Yaknow, I've kind of made it my personal crusade to keep the tradition of AW-RR macro dweebs in check here in AH. It's worked with the exception of a few in your squad.
If others start spamming Ch1 with macros the entertaining BS that goes on there will be camoflaged by:
'You Suck And You're Dead"
"My nutz are bigger 'n yourz"
"Another kill by the 9yo putz squad"
And let's not forget...
"GRINNNN ININININ"
The kill macro should have died with AW, please let it.
Oh, before you protest that yours isn't a kill macro think of it this way, ANY pre-programed macro sent over Ch1 other than a "Check 6" is spamming the channel. Just what do ya think Ch1 would look like if the same percentage of players from AW that spammed Ch1 with macros were here in AH where there are 3 to 4 times the number of players in the arena?
Lastly, if you want to say your macro lets others nearby know that you're engaging a target then why must it go out on Ch1?
Macros are in check for now in AH, berating those who use them is just my way to keep them in check here.
Nothing personal for sure.

Hehe..... actually, I miss the kill macros, there used to be some really clever ones... :) I never squelch channel 1 anyway, as I like to be able to chat to other players, especially those I know from AW, as well as others I have met during events, etc. Never squelched anybody yet, either. ;)

I have to consider myself lucky that my squad and I do not see a problem with communication at all. The people that we communicate with have been kind, helpful and respectful. On occasions you would see someone get upset on the text because the opponent would ram.
Maybe the time, maybe the country that works in our favor. Wish everyone would have our luck.

Let's face it. Your Crusade as you put it will fail as they all have in the past. If bothers you so much squelch us. Our squad policy is to Never violate TOS, and we never will. Twits like you and your stupid comments regarding folks displaying humor and fun in A GAME is truly sad. And Please, do not try to Lump us in with the many Immature fools that Violate TOS with Vulgarity, or with fools like you that have a tendency to Punch out their monitors when they get shot down because they don't have the ability to have fun and take getting shot down as another aspect of the game that makes it fun.
I liked most folks that I flew with in Full Realisim while playing Airwarrior, and I played the game pretty much from the day it opened on GEnie and own all 3 sets. Full Realism Folks didn't like it for bandwidth reasons. I understood and recognized that UNWRITTEN rule when playing in FR or in Historical events. But we have to take into account that when Airwarrior first opened on GEnie it was during a time when 2400 baud was the standard, and 9600 cost over 9 dollars an hour to play. People wanted to squeeze as much as possible for what little bandwidth that was available.
Bandwidth with the wide use of cable and DSL as well as improved hardware is no longer affected by this very slight burden. So there is no longer a need. But still certain Hardheads would want to shove their small minds down everyone's throats. Sorry pal. Just because you have a limited imagination, and a puritan need to stifle one of the more fun aspects of the game will not stop the rest of us from Saying What ever the Hell we choose without being Vulgar, and keeping in the traditions of FREE SPEECH.
We didn't Macro up until this thread was created, but now that you made this an issue, I think I will start just to tick you off. Keep in mind little man. You and Odipuss opened this issue. Not Us. Once we start though. I would almost bet money it catches on. Why? Because unlike yourself. OLDMn, DE'Ol'ONz and myself are mature players with very good sense of Humor and fun.
Here is an Example of his old Macro in AW. “When my cannons hit your eye like a big Pizza pie that’s Amore!”
Mine is in my Sig. Even Frenchy, and many other FR flyers Macroed in RR. Why? Because it was Fun. Oh, I am not talking about the Vulgar adolescents, but the creative and Funny mature players that enjoyed this type of play.
Up until now my squadys used in greetings, and during conversations online. Not in macros after kills like we did in AW.
Let's make this VERY Clear for those that don't know us. WE NEVER abuse people. WE NEVER use vulgarity.
Your problem Mrlars, is not with us obviously. But with your stupid need to mold people into an image that you created in that peanut brain of yours. GET help!

Yep, I always macro'd my kills from very soon after I started playing (in FR). I "discovered" RR during my time as a Game Assistant, and loved the fact that kill macros were used extensively there..... with some very good ones being created! I started flying there more often, and of course macro'd all my kills as well. :D I don't remember kill macros being an issue until I started returning to FR occasionally and started getting comments when I macro'd a kill.... of course, this had the opposite effect on me and I just did it all the more.... :p I remember one person always came back with the same retort after one of my kill macros - until I pointed out that his was just as much a macro as mine! ROFL! :)

TWOLF,
Count me as one who hopes your squad of phony ebonics speaking children doesn't make macros commonplace in AH. While whatever is macro'd may be funny or cute the first time, by the 5000th time its just annoying. I have nothing against the the majority of good folks that came over after AW folded but this is one of the childish legacys that should have died when it did.

Hardly. OLDMn and I are from Chicago. We were both raised in the inner City. It has nothing to do with Ebonics. It has a great deal to do with just having fun with our local culture. Get a grip on reality.

Nope, wrong again young grasshopper. OLDMn is from Chicago. As am I.
If you choose to think of me as being 18, then all I can say is thanks. I wish I were. The fact is, that I just had my 40th birthday not long ago. But thanks for once again proving to the world that you are an ignorant person that responds to posts without reading them. If you had read any of my posts before sticking your foot in your mouth you would have been able to figure out that I would have to be at least in my thirties.

I sometimes squelch when level drops in maturity. But usually because buffer scrolls too fast. Im frequently afk, so i'm afraid to miss anything on the squad channel. If HT could make the last three lines or so from my squad "stick" to the top of the buffer, I would prolly endure the pre-teen nonsense on ch 1 because of
's and so forth...

my macro is /.squelch 1 enter /.squelch 6 enter
cleans up the ol radio buffer and keeps most immature communications from view
