Thanks to Scott aka AKSnake for the pics he shot. The tour was roughly 30 min. and Marla, our tour guide, had some very interesting information about the ME262.
http://www.stormbirds.com
They have one complete (First flight was November, and Microsoft came out and recorded the jet start up for sound of the ME262 that you'll hear in CFS3) and the 2nd one (Primer green pics) is the aircraft that the Messerschmidt Foundation in Germany is paying for. They have a total of 5 frames, with 3 ready for customers if you have a cool 2 mil. The weight of the aircraft is roughly 12,000 lbs., 2000 under the original (Due to war shortages, the Germans had to rely alot on steel) These newer Jets incorporate steel, Aluminum and wood!. Counter-weights had to be placed in the nose cone, where the Inflight camera would have been 58 years ago, to make up for the weight of the 30mm cannons.
I left with Marla and Jim 3 CD copies of a 6 min.- Aces High movie of the AH ME262 in action against huge buff formations, and naturally editted HTC's URL into the movie as well ;)
Here are the links for pics Please note that you may not copy these pictures for publication without the written consent of Stormbirds.com)

What Rip was really thinking.

Funked..did know that the first engines submitted to be used with the 262 were none other than BMW gas turbine engines...unfortunately they proved too unreliable and Junkers Jumo was used instead :p

Good to see MS is going for accuracy with those J-85s. It'll make good marketing copy on the side of the box though: "Actual engine sounds from a real, newly-built Me-262!"

Yes, we were lucky to be able to see first hand what they are doing there. It is actually only about twelve miles for me, and not far from my favorite breakfast resturaunt. To actually stand there and be able to touch, fondle;) the real thing will just lead to many perk points disappearing from my coffers.:D The original jet engines were started by lawn mower type engine mounted in the intake, with a pull cord permanently attached and sticking out a hole in the cone of the engine. That in turned the engine to spool it up. They have installed a dummy ring to keep it looking original. The J85's start with Ground Support type starting units.

..and to add to Snakes post, they have added many historical features, such as flare holes in the aft fuselage, where a red or white flare was fired to warn friendly ground troops not to fire, I shoulda got a pic of those as well, but hey, we were under hynosis for about 30 min :D

I wished I could of stayed another day just to do the tour with you guys. But had to be at SeaTac by 5 in the morning. I did drive by there Thursday night.

We may think your bubble quotation funny, but we were allowed to take pictures at the site when we weren't really supposed to. We also gave them the website address and if they come cruisin the BB and see it, some may not think it is funny. IMHO. What I am saying is that someone outside of our community may take offense, we never know. These pictures cannot be used except to show you fine people what we got to see and for our (the AH community) personal use. I hope this is not taken wrong, it is not intended as flame at all.

Point taken and the picture removed it was not my intention to insult anyone at Stormbirds more just a tongue in cheek remark. I had read the disclaimer at the top but figured nobody minded Funked's little ditti including yourself who posted afterwards.

I knew you meant no insult at all. As to Funked's post, the person pictured was one of our own, and not one of the employees at Stormbird. Other than that, I had no problem with yours.

Follow up from Jim (Email) in regards to the AH film of the 262 that we made them.
Brian,
We did enjoy the CD s but, our pilot claims he would "never flythru an open hangar"...well maybe if no one was watching.
Thanks!
Glad you had a good tour with Maureen...keep checking on our
progress...we hope to fly later this month again.

Are these the 262's that were started at the Texas Airplane Factory in Texas that we viewed at the 1998 War Bird's Con? I know they ran into $$$ and management problems and the project was sent elsewhere. Sure was sweet seeing these birds in the flesh. One of the two seaters was full duel IFR with airconditioning and pressurization, it was being built to spec for one of the owners. The whole story behind the engines is beyond me, but it was fascinating what power was available in the new engines that fit inside the original nacelles.
A must see for any enthusiast.

Yes, they are the one and the same. Steve (forgot his last name) died in his crash of his F-86 though, and the project was left high and dry without $$. They found a buyer for "White 1" which made its first flight in Nov. 2002..and as mentioned above, Messerschimdt foundation is paying for a second one...but after that..the money runs out unless they find some more buyers. :(

Sorry aac, didn't see this until just now...
Yes, I will , soon as we get DSL in this area, suppose to be this spring. I only have a 56k modem and uploading a 206 meg. film would be quite a task!
