prince louis francis of Battenberg aka lord mountbatten (the brit royal family's name was saxe-coburg-gotha, they changed it around the same time - WWI). architect of such works of genius as the dieppe raid and the division of india & pakistan (and the resulting propect of iminent nuclear war) & an excellent argument for the elimination of hereditary titles...personally my favorite life magaizine cover is this one of harpo marx

I tought it was Hanover, not that I care.... Harpo was more important to me.

ja, i think Hanover is correct, hanover-coburg-gotha being the full name - a bit embarassing when gotha bombers are bombing london

Loard Louis Mountbatten, it is:)
He was the only Supream Allied Theater comander to actually see combat in WW2"In the Trenches" so to speak: "At the outbreak of the war Mountbatten commanded the 5th Destroyer Flotilla and took part in the evacuation of Norway. In April 1941 he was sent to Malta and he saw action off Crete in May."
