HT has asked me to choose the Aces High commercial music.
I have chosen Renagade by Styx..
What would you have chosen?
-
I do a lot of videos, mixing sound and video clips from various sources...
the music must match the video.. you can have a real cool song but if the video dont "walk the beat" with the song it wont "fit".
Anyway, "Goodbye Blue Sky" from Pink Floyd would fit quite nicely into any buff/fighter intercept video hehehe.

I'd have to go with it's name sake, "Aces High" by Iron Maiden. I play constantly to this tune..hehe plus it's all about the BoB..hehe

Actually, it's "Ride of the Valkyries", but I do agree it would make an excellent theme song.
Valkyries were Oden's hand maidens who would ride ahead of the troops in battle deciding whom amongst them would die.

Iron Maiden, "Aces High" could work for just quick burst of action. Show a group of Spits taking off from a Runway, climbing up, and then they meet 109s and 190s and we see a twisting turning dogfight. Could Rock. WOuld probably bring in Younger players too.
I belive HT said his target audience was like 25 to 55 so the Younger Portion could probably dig Aces High the 40 to 55 folks may not. (I am 36 and like Iron Maiden.)
I think the folks who watch "The History Channel" are more toward that 40 to 55 portion of the Age scale, but I couldn't swear to it. Anyhow I don't see the dynamic there. Plus HT would have to get Permission from Iron Maiden, and although they may go for it, once they see the Game, I think they would want more than HT would be willing to Shell out. (Remember Bill Gates gave the Rolling Stones $14,000,000 for the rights to use "Start Me Up.")
"Also Sprach Zarathusa," the "2001" music could be used, and I believe lends itself to 30 sec increments.
How about "The 1812" overature?
Pink Floyd "Learnig to Fly," or "Dogs of War."
Sammy Hagar "Heavy Metal," or "Where Eagles Fly."
George Thouroughgood and the Deleware Destroyers "Bad to the Bone."
Sweet, "Ballroom Blitz."
Accept "Balls to the Wall."
Axe "Knock Down Drag Out Rock-n-Roll Party In the Streets."
Uriah Heep "Stealing."
Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight."
Damn Yankees "High Enough."
Foo Fighters "Learn to Fly."
Jimmy Hendrix "Red House," (I just love that song) or "Little Wings." the Stevie Ray Vaughn Version has no vocals.
Metallica "One," or "Hero of the Day."
Queen "We Will Rock You," or "We Are the Champions."
Puff Daddy Featuring Jimmy Page Come with me from the Godzilla Soundtrack.
Steve Miller "Fly Like an Eagle."
Pachelbel "Canon in D Major."
"Gary Owen" Drum and Fife I had a Civil War Northern Re-enactor band doing this in fife and drum, but my dad obsconded with it, and I haven't gotten it back. If you have ever seen little big man, it is the tune the 7th Calvary Band is playing during the recreation of the "Wahshedah River Masacare." Twas Custer's favorite piece of marshall music, and I admit to a fondness to it, though I am not fond of killing Native Americans.
Muddy Waters "Mannish Boy."
The Blues Brothers w/The Blue Brothers Band (Featuring Matt "Guitar" Murphy) "B-Movie Boxcar Blues."
Obviously some of these have nothing to do with flying, but they are cool.

I suppose it's all about what kind of action you're going to have.
Just watched "The Watcher" last night, and they had an awesome chase scene with a custom mix of "Dragula" by the Zombie man himself. The beat accented the action perfectly. Really heightened the experience.
I was actually thinking of the Memphis Belle's version of "Amazing Grace" with the flute n' all, while the bombers are taking off. Then fade to another airfield with fighters taking off (still playing the same scene). Some more string work from Memphis Belle as the LW takes off, fade to the meeting, and start up with "Symphony of Destruction" and just show the first merge then fade out.

Looks like you guys have this one pretty well figured out.
Just want to add one song. If the scene is of a plane going down in fire. Then Johnny Cash's song "Ring of Fire" would be perfect.

One and only one song would work..
Dogs of War by Pink Floyd
-
"The Ride of the Valkyries" by Wagner would of course be very appropriate, but how about "Behold, the Armies of War descend screaming from the Heavens!" by Bal Sagoth? It would fit perfectly in a scene where the goons jump out of the C47's (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I would think that time period music would go well with a time period game (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Though all the above choices are great also I do think the big band music would be a great hit on the History Channel (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Yep, "Ride Of The Valkyries" is sure good and if you want a really moody, dark, formation kinda sound then 'Mars, Bringer of War' - Holst would be pretty good!

hmmm....
Duran Duran: Wild Boys
Duran Duran: View to a Kill
???????? : Black sheep theme (if F4U's are used in video)
Guns'n'Roses: Welcome to the jungle
Riggs : Radar Rider
Black Sabbath: The mob rules
Black Sabbath: War Pigs
of course I know there are some DAMN good musicaly adept people out there within AH that could make the music for it. (maybe get a few month too? hehe) it could start out with something light and right for that time frame... then... (you get teh idea)
for exapmle.... start out with "In the Mood" While Taxing down the run way and for a small flight of easy go luck turns and rolls blend to "Wild Boys" as 2 sizable units slam into eachother for a furball from Hell.
that would cover the age group nicely.
-
AND JUST WHAT YOUNG MAN IS WRONG WITH BEING IN THE 40-55 AGE GROUP??????
And just what makes ya think we wouldn't like some heavy metal music as an intro???
LOL
when I watch the History channel, or Discovery, on rare occassions I dig out the albums, (thats 33 1/3 records man.. we're talking classic Vinyl!!, predates tapes, cd's dvd's etc. for you youngsters...)
Whats wrong with moby grape, cream, zeppelin, black sabbath, moody blues, etc..
nuthing like a 17 minute version of Inna-gadda-da-vida.. to get ya through a commercial break...

Sometimes in the game there are those rare golden moments when I find myself immersed in an orgy of destruction, killing and virtual inhumanity, real horror show . Enveloped by tracers, fire, great pillars of smoke, and planes tumbling from the sky . Then it begins, I hear it. Imperceptible at first, a gradual creschendo till it is trumpeting climacticly in my minds ear. It is the fourth movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony, the choral . And war is flowing though my vains and he looks through my eyes .

hiya all again:
well something that might work, remember, a commercal is only 30 sec or so long.
so maybe make a couple differant ones with differant songs.
the one I think would work well with
* ride of the valkyrie * would be one of zigs jabo attacks.
picture ten to 15 p47-30's start there dive to straff the acks and hanges down, the some cons coming up to defend, the 47's loop and cirlce for a second pass shooting down the up coming cons and finishing off the hangers.
I can'nt see useing ground units in the commercal. once the field is level, with would only take about 20 to 25 seconds with a zig jabo, the planes all fly off into the senset. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Maiden would be my choice for some fast gun camera footage but don't forget about "Tail Gunner" by Iron Maiden
Tailgunner
Steve Harris, Bruce Dickinson
Trace your way back 50 years
To the glow of Dresden-blood and tears
In the black above by the cruel searchlight
Men will die and men will fight-yeah!
Who shot who and who fired first?
Dripping death to whet the bloodthirst
No radar lock on-skin and bone
The bomber boys are going home
chorus
Climb into the sky never wonder why-tailgunner
You're a tailgunner
(repeat)
Nail that Fokker kill that son.
Gonna blow your guts out with my gun
The weather forecasts good for war
Cologne and Frankfurt?Have some more!
Tail end Charlie in the boiling sky
The Enola Gay was my last try
Now that this tailgunner's gone
No more bombers (just one big bomb)
chorus
Of course you couldn't play the entire song and maybe it should be a tune to be played when you show what it's like in a tailgunner with 4-5 109's firing at you.

Had someone online ask which song I had chosen for the comercial....Guess I should point out that I was joking. Some cool choices though. Someone should set up a mp3 repository for all contributions.

Either "Free Bird" or that "Fly" song by Pink Floyd...
-
"Staying away from anything by groups who may demand royalties rules out 90% of the suggestions so far..."
Just thought I would add that I believe you need to pay some type of royalty to the publisher of the music and the recording if you are using it for commercial purposes. Even if you are using a song that is in the public domain you still have to pay the owner of the recording. So the only way to get around paying for a license is to have a new piece created as a work for hire, recorded, and HTC can publish it themselves.
I was a music theory/comp major and I would gladly donate my services just for the exposure (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
