Whitey Wannamacher flew with the name -brkt- in WB, then here from early beta. He introduced many of us to this addiction after first turning us on to "Fantasy Flight", a group that flew real WW2 Warbirds to airshows dressed in realistic AAF uniforms. He was the charismatic sort who would say, "Hey, guys, lets strip and polish the T-6 this year", and we'd all jump in, do it, and enjoy it. When he passed we (Buccaneers squadron) did a missing wing man formation in the TA and I had the honor of riding back-seat in Whitey's T-6 for the RL missing wingman formation over his house after the funeral. Words can't describe what this man meant to me, and I miss him lots even today.

Didn't someone do a memorial film for Sn1p3r?

I was cleaning up on my HD a few days ago and found the film from back then. No I didn't "clean" it out.
It's a little over 9MB, so I can't post it on my page (only have 10MB in total, "free" space that came with my connection), but I can e-mail it to someone who can post it.

I do flight sims because of Whitey.

He formed the Buccaneers, a squadron very different than most because we all (at first) lived in the same town.  On a weekly basis, we would all meet for diner to go over our mission briefings.  We would bring maps, written orders, etc.  On occasion, some of us would even show up in authentic WWII Army Air Corps uniforms.  Sometimes Whitey would have a lesson planned on a particular tactic or aspect, complete with props.  We would end the evening by driving home and flying our planned missions.  Before RW or VOX, we would make a 12+ person "conference call", to be used as an in-flight radio.

Either directly, or indirectly, I believe the following players play AH because of Whitey:

 Gronk
 eskimo
 Sabre
 Jarbo
 Oosik
 FGonzo
 Buhdman
 Samuria

 & a few others that you don't see much of any more;
 snkybast
 knfe
 Wabbit
 Bourbon
 Lancer

Sad Day for the Buccaneers ...
I'm sorry to report that "Whitey" Wannemacher, CO of the Buccaneers, succumbed to his battle with cancer and died this morning. He will be sorely missed. I include this poem (you may have seen it before) that I wrote years ago because it helps me deal with my grief at times like this:

 Siren Sunsets

 In our hearts we harbor
 Different dreams to find,
Other roads call out to us
 To leave this place behind.
 Indeed, it is our destiny
 To wind our separate ways,
 Chasing after siren sunsets,
 Lured by their illusive rays.

For the paths we walk were parted
 Well before we ever met,
 And separate they must again,
As sure as suns will set.
But for a fleeting foot of time
 Our pathways were as one,
Allowing us to be together, here,
 To share a common sun.

Soon it will be time, my friend,
 To say our last goodbyes,
Our tempered smiles will be betrayed
 By teardrops in our eyes.
But the friendship we have forged
Will fill my heart my whole life through,
 Though we savor different sunsets,
I will often think of you.

 <S> Whitey!

 Unfortunate News
I regret to inform all of you that I received an e-mail this morning from Robert Pettingell that Brian Pettingell aka SN1P3R passed away on December 26th, 2000.

We, at HTC, know that SN1P3R was a beloved member of the Musketeers Escadrille Squadron, a dedicated and passionate aviator of Aces High and well known and liked in the community.

We offer our condolences to his family for their loss.

I recently found this site and others and just want to say how comforting it is to read the kind words in remembrance on Brian. He's been gone now a little over a year and I still think of him daily, as it is obvious, many of you do, too. FYI, Brian had wanted to go to the Air Force Academy all his life and be a pilot and in 9th grade, was diagnosed with color blindness and it burst his bubble. Glad he found Aces High - I know you meant as much to him as he did to all of you.

Thank you very very much for the wonderful words of love.

I've still got sn1p3r's movie on my movie page (http://www.cybrtyme.com/personal/hblair/moviesframe.htm). All the links should still be working.
